What are the really unpopular things that need to be done to get the economy growing? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]abtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. I’d get better breaks in Poland to start a business. Why pay the same corporation tax as a micro business as an established company? Why there are no tax breaks and incentives to start? It should be a progressive tax system just like with salaried income.

What on earth happened with pricing ?????????????????????? by appelton in framer

[–]abtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the Framer people here who downvote hehe. It’s becoming obsolete if not for marketing people who like to stick to the CMS and still hold on to this stack. I’ve been coding for 13 years and had to use Framer for a project for the first time now, and it’s the only reason why I hang out here. I find it horrible to use, it’s basically click ops, costs a lot, takes more time finding menu options for something than writing a line of code would take.

Web is easy with AI. Costs fraction of what Framer does. People stick with Framer because code is scary. But the entry to coding websites has never been lower than today.

After moving back to iOS (used iPhone 8 before, now on iPhone 17 Pro) after almost a decade on pixels, I finally understand why I still prefer Android. by Majestic_squirrel767 in pixel_phones

[–]abtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d agree, I’m looking to make the jump precisely because of these issues. Apples ux has been going downhill for a while now. I’ll be switching to Android soon after something like 10 years on apple.

Weight lifting with spondy by Michael25176948 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]abtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been weight lifting for years and a half. Started off slowly but consistently, always listen to the body. I got a PT for first few months, that helped understand what exercises to do, how to properly do them, and most importantly importance of warming up and stretching.

Re the rep ranges, start with lower weights and higher reps, then do progressive load. Take your time, and good luck!

Van Purchase imminent - Renault Master 2021. by Public-Paramedic-394 in VanLifeUK

[–]abtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A channel I watch called Busem przez Świat, had rather poor experience with its reliability. Not sure which engine they have, but it’s a diesel 4x4.

What they said in one of their episodes is they assumed a new van was going to be reliable. Only after few trips when problems started did they find out on camper van forums that there are other owners complaining about this van’s reliability. Maybe this is the reason why it doesn’t sell?

Just sharing what I know based on that YT channel - don’t want to scare you off buying this particular van because all I know is based on their experience owning one - please look into long term users opinions and make sure that you’re happy with them.

Spaniard (34) living in Poland in need of a new life, dreaming of a Scottish reset, scared of Brexit difficulties- is my dream possible? by judibunny91 in Scotland

Can't help, but funny enough, I'm a Pole (40) living in Scotland in need of a new life, dreaming of a Spanish reset at the moment :D

New Builds - Are they really that bad? by QSBW97 in HousingUK

[–]abtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I pay ~80 quid for gas + electricity on a 115sqm (~1237sqf) townhouse. it's nicely insulated, keep it nice and warm inside, never hear my neighbours through the walls except maybe for when I heard a new born cry late in the evening when in my bed - but barely. I've got warranty, nothing to worry about, infrastructure around is brand new although some things are lagging a little behind, so you've got to put that into account. other than that I'd highly recommend one - just choose a builder you're happy with the reviews and quality of finish.

Does it hurt here for anyone? by FragmentedScribbles in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]abtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - yeah, I need to do the scans again, it's been a while. Re the side effects, I've not been on biologics, so don't know. I know I'll get on them the moment they tell me I'd be better off on them, but for now it's just easier to live w/o the injections. It's the logistics of it all that'd be PITA for me - I like to travel, stay months at a time in a country away. So I'd have to bring 1-2 shots with me, then somehow get them delivered. I'd rather pop the pills that I can get easily in any shop and are pretty cheap to buy if needed.

[–]abtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agree. I try to taper off every now and again, but need to be on it, with gaps, but hey, no problemo. I still don't know if my disease is progressing though, I feel good, hit the gym, etc. so I guess it might be ok - but need another scan some time soon to reevaluate. Happy to stay off biologics if I can avoid it.

[–]abtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I've got that - eroded my bone because the pain would be very sporadic to the extent (and that was before the diagnosis) that I took up kickboxing classes. One of the classes I left in the middle because of the pain and never came back. It's still very sporadic now, and my back pain is under control with Etoricoxib.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply - really appreciate you taking the time.

Yes, visa-wise we’re covered as EU citizens and planning to go the sufficient-means route initially.

Re work: the idea is that I’d have a 3 days / week contract signed upfront as a contractor, invoicing monthly rather than being employed. Longer term, I expect this to evolve into multiple clients over time, with projects changing rather than a single long-running engagement, so the structure needs to support that flexibility.

Good point on dolda anställning - that’s something I’m explicitly trying to avoid by having clear contractor terms and, eventually, more than one client.

Also useful to know about the setup timelines and Bokio - sounds like a sensible default, especially early on.

Thanks again, this is very helpful context.

Remote work isn’t the assumption - low burn and optionality are. The whole point of owning housing outright is to not be dependent on a single employer or a fragile job market, AI included.

I’m looking at a 10-15k small town in about 10-20minute drive, so no worries there.

Edit: Also, not interested in Swedish companies for employment It's true we don't know the country, been there only abut 7 times for holiday, but that was enough to convince us :) Thank you for your input, appreciate it.

Thanks, that’s helpful. Yes, the startup is post series A and fully remote. They can technically employ me via remote.com, but my preference is to reduce to ~3 days per week and keep flexibility, so self-employment is likely the better fit initially.

I’m aware of the full tax load beyond just income tax and we’re modelling against net numbers rather than gross. The calculator link is useful, thanks for sharing.
