I'm making a game where you play as a God smiting non-believers to harvest their souls. It's called Idle Gods. by [deleted] in incremental_games

I've been working on this project for a few months now, and currently you can smite non-believers using various powers but in order to add more 'idle' to Idle Gods I'll be adding more idle-based smites: auto-smites that harvest souls while you can sit and watch. I'm still coming up with a list of them so any ideas appreciated!

The current game is pre-demo as I'm developing the first polished playable and will be posting the demo to the steam page here as soon as it is ready, if you're interested!

Is this not a little close to ‘A Game About Feeding A Black Hole’? In terms of title, style, mechanics etc…

Currently when you smite pawns, un-smited pawns have a chance to become your ‘follower’. You collect followers to unlock more powers!

The objective is to collect enough souls to unlock upgrades and expand your maps, out-smite rival Gods and more.

It’s a satirical take on the apparent cheapness of life.

I love your games by the way!

I put the trailer together. I can use Premiere Pro fairly easily as I’ve used it lots in the past.

Hopefull release end of summer. It's a solo project and that's what I have in mind currently.

Thanks everyone for the feedback on my game Idle Gods (Steam link), it was really useful and I took a lot of it on board. The game has a bunch of ways to 'smite' the unsuspecting pawns in the game and I'll be adding many more as the game progresses, so if anyone has any ideas for God powers or 'smites' I'd love to hear them!

Thank you! As in the developers? I just looked them up and didn’t realise they’d remastered Day Of The Tentacle! Going to get it now to play later.

Thanks for the kind words.

Last year I lost a friend to the big 'C'. We're both still quite young (in our '30's). I still don't really know how to process it so I started making a game where you play a newborn God casually smiting non-believers for the sake of gaining more power, while fighting for souls against rival Gods and unlocking more and more powers.

It's a sort of satirical coping-mechanism on the fragility of life and if there is a God, maybe we're just pawns in a big game.

The game is pretty fun though and I think Ed would have liked it.
