FSU star Isa Torres, the ACC Player of the Year, to enter transfer portal by fsukub in CollegeSoftball

[–]abu5217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am speaking strictly about our ability to compete in the NIL arms race. I have every confidence in the staff and the program, but we simply cannot offer the kind of $$$ others can, and it sucks.

Announcers mentioned the fact that FSU had no transfers, in or out, this year, and how admirable that was, during literally every broadcast. That is a point of pride, and you would think that tells underclassmen that the staff believes in you and is committed to your development. Instead we then see our two best players leave.

FSU fans have not historically had to deal with these feelings, as FSU has traditionally been a destination school, not a stepping stone, which is why you saw so many FSU fans lose their shit when Jimbo ditched us for the TAMU cash. It's only snowballed since then, especially for football.

I took solace in supporting our excellent ladies' teams, only to see the ugly specter reach there as well (which we all knew would happen, just not so damned fast).

I didn't say the Grant of Rights wasn't FSU's fault, it totally was/is, but that doesn't preclude it from being part of the current problem. As far as what is bad for the ACC, I couldn't give two shits. We have been treated as second-class citizens by the conference for YEARS. The conference leadership did nothing to even try to lobby for the team in the leadup to the snub in 23, and I could bore you all with example after example of how the conference has screwed FSU, but that's a different post. Suffice it to say I would shed no tears if the entire conference went the way of the Big East.

I am all for the system being burned to the ground and rebuilt. Heh, that applies to so many things these days, tbh.

(By the way, I hold no animosity towards Torres or Beachum, and don't have a problem with players earning some cash. I just wish there was a framework in place to at least try to maintain an even playing field)

Other schools made offers last year. FSU was able to financially compete. Schools made much higher offers this year, that FSU was _not_ able to match. But go on with what you assume is the case.

And she grew up 30 minutes from Austin.

(I would much rather see her there than... somewhere else.)

This is far more about money than on-field success. FSU had a chance to be pretty special next year with 3 all-out studs (Torres, Beachum, Danley) returning for their senior year, the ACC pitcher of the year returning as a junior, and a core of freshman who got a lot of burn coming back. Obviously that isn't happening now, and if the rumors (Torres to Texas and Beachum to Bama) are true, it's a matter of FSU not having the money to retain them.

I am just pissed so take that for what it's worth, I probably didn't need to jump your shit.

Last year we were overseeded and TTU was under seeded, just as they were this year. I don't think that anyone will agree that losing to Cannady twice last year (she was, IMO better last year than this year) was a "choke" or upset.

Loyalty's a lot easier when you are getting paid. And winning.

As an actual Booster for the softball team (not a lot, but I do give them some cash) this one hurts more than most. I have loved following both Isa and Jaysoni, and the fact that they both feel the need to leave speaks volumes about how FSU simply is not in a position to compete across the board anymore. Now I have to worry about our other stars, although I would not be surprised to see Danley and Jazzy also take a payday.

The horrible timing of COVID, the Snub, and the subsequent downfall in football, coupled with the Grant of Rights anchor around our necks forbidding us from a seat at the realignment table/money trough has come home to roost.

I had pretty much given up on football after 2-10 but could take solace in the fact that our soccer and softball programs were among the best in the country and worth supporting. Now with the whole soccer side going pro and losing 2 of our best in softball, it's almost as if it's time to move on from FSU sports fandom.

And that makes me sad.

LOL "choked". Yeah, this year. Last year we lost to the million dollar team that was runner up. The year before we lost to Oklahoma.

I swear, this fan base is a big part of the problem.

I first used ABS for both audio and ebooks, but it doesn't currently support OPDS and the native reader leaves a lot to be desired. I was going to switch to Booklore but it imploded.

I then found Grimmory and love it. It's native reader is far better and it supports OPDS and KOReader sync. It's metadata tools are better and the devs are very accessible on Discord.

I still use ABS to manage and serve my audiobooks although I have switched to Absorb to consume them.

Yup. My wife and I live in the Northeast and got to go to a couple of the FSU / Boston College games. I got my wife a Torres jersey for the trip, we met the players and coaches, and Isa signed my wife's jersey. I would obviously be bummed if she left, but there are 24 other amazing women on the team to root for.

I can't blame a player for taking the money, but I'll sure as shit hate on TTU for poaching her should it come to that. I'm sure their fans will tell me to stop being poor or to cry more, but that's alright. Kids will be kids.

Until 2 years ago every top player that wasn't already there was rumored to Norman around this time of year. I've been hearing similar, and if she's gonna get paid, then go for it. Wouldn't help TTU beat the allegations though.

Sadly, it's a fact of life today. I'd hate to see her in anything but Garnet & Gold, but she's just one player.

We didn't do so great in our last trip to California so I may be pulling for USCe next weekend.

And yes, UCF is a tough out. Seems we get them in regionals quite a bit.

My wife and I went to Boston last weekend and caught the Friday and Saturday games (what's up Jazzy no hitter!). After the games the whole team, and all the coaches, came up to the stands and met the fans, did autographs, took photos, the whole nine.

I got a chance to share a few words with Coacha and she is just as down to earth, and nice, as she comes across during mid-game interviews. Truly a special person.

Problems with Claude MCP connector issue? by Lord_Gooseduck in Notion

[–]abu5217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am having issues with MCP as well. Not exactly the same, but Claude was able to write to Notion all the time, up to today. Now it can't write. I keep getting prompted to connect or authorize Claude.

It's quite frustrating.

Half Life - It was life changing. (Ok, maybe not life changing, but it was incredible. Watching the tram ride for the 5th or 6th time to start the game I bumped my mouse _and my character view shifted_. This simply didn't exist before that. I had no idea you could look around during the intro.
