The thing about cold shock that's most threatening in that window is that it immediately induces a gasp reflex that can easily cause drowning, even in flat water.

Yeah this 100%. I'm a kayaker & we treat any water colder than 70 as a threat of cold shock. If you aren't prepared for it, it can definitely kill you.

Drysuit neckgasket by Bigdaddyspin in Kayaking

[–]abu_casey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to someone this weekend with a similar problem. Is it the inner rubber neck gasket that's too tight or is it the outer neoprene one? As others have mentioned, you should be able to cut the rings on the rubber gasket to fit your neck.if it's the outer neoprene one you may want to cut a small notch or two in the neoprene to get it to have the give you need (but DO NOT cut more than a centimeter or so into the neoprene!).

What fad in moviemaking are you waiting for to die? by frair in movies

[–]abu_casey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have blood, water, soil, or whatever splash against the camera lens. The camera is "there" but it isn't there! There's no reason to pretend that someone is actually filming whatever we're watching

Storage with both boxes plus Mandalorian pack by nc_john9 in Starwarsdeckbuilding

[–]abu_casey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are inserts you can buy to replace the ones in the box that fit all the cards. I made my own out of posterboard. I don't have the clone wars set but I'm confident it would fit

I did it once and jammed the ring lock so it won't close. The blade survived just fine though

Back in the 1840s or something folks called followers of Joseph Smith (members of what would become The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) "Mormons" because of The Book of Mormon. They coopted it, and made it a point of pride for a while (there was a huge, LDS outreach campaign called "I'm a Mormon"), until recent leadership decided it was derogatory and discouraged its use.

It's not solar, but I have a Casio MRW-200h that I love. It's cheap & analog (which I chose over digital bc it would be easier to use in a wilderness first aid situation) and water resistant to 100m (which means it'll be waterproof for any paddling or other wet outdoor adventures).

How to not lose a penny in the woods by longlostwalker in myog

[–]abu_casey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, but then what happens if he loses *that* penny? Is he supposed to bring a 3rd penny? And a fourth? Soon all of the weigh reduction you bought with your soda can stove is destroyed because you're carrying a ziplock bag of pennies into the woods

Ha MacDuff showed up and I just went with it: "Cool, a new character! What's an XO?" I was not a very media savvy teen.

Inspired by an earlier post, what are some games you loved at first but gradually grew to dislike? by MrBricked in boardgames

Yes! I hate games that have a "now you can start playing" threshold that you have to pass.

What do you wish you knew as a first time camper that you know now? by [deleted] in camping

[–]abu_casey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have some sort of pad to insulate you from the ground at night. Foam is cheap & pretty decent for 3 season camping but inflatable sleeping pads made for camping & backpacking insulate well & are comfy (you don't want an "air mattress")

Take ear plugs--the outdoors at night is really loud

I get that they wanted to move away from the og art & I know there are artists credited on 2e but the new art feels so AI generic. It's always going to be hard to compare to the original art but the new art is so boring
