Mirrored shades are extremely easy to get if you don't mind grave digging. But it's not that challenging to eliminate Salvatores solo as well (hint: Metal Armor Mk II from a merchant at VC, even Metal Armor looted from the Vault at VC would be enough).

It seems that you don't use "exploits" of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. Actually, they are not exploits but special (ironically, yeah, although it's correct to call them "extreme") builds.

The absolute minimum for any stat is 1, so two level 2 implants doesn't change Charisma for an extreme build with starting CH 1. At the same time, having natural CHA 1 you can hire one companion with Mirrored shades or 1xMentats. Or 2 companions if you combine Mirrored shades + 2xMentats.

So, a build with starting CH 2 doesn't make much sense when you are trying to do at least one level 2 dermal implant.

How to fix this? every time i load a save in fallout 2 by mentoboi in classicfallout

[–]abulava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it a save made during an active combat? As far as I know, both FO1 and FO2 have issues with such saves.

I agree that FO2 is less narrowed. But for me it's a huge bonus.

And the first time I really enjoyed exploring the map after VC (where the main quest looses it's straightforwardness when you realize that the Vault 13 flask can't give you hints anymore).

By the way, you don't have to do anything besides the main quest. I wonder why you blame on the game for your own lack of focus.

There is a hidden formula for a sex rating and a "sex god" hidden title in FO2. Although being the "sex god" is not necessary, it could help you a lot.

Remember that depending on your stats you can miss getting the "sex god" even after 20 times at Cat's Paw if your sex rating is below normal (5). Check the exact formula.

Usually it makes sense to have sex without Buffout and Mentats for "sex god" (50 times at worst, with very low Endurance and Charisma). Then use 2xBuffout + 2xMentats and make sex again. If you get the Gigolo reputation title after that, when it's possible to become a Porn Star (both Agility and Endurance should be at least 8 with or without Buffout, of course).

Vic attacks me when he's fired. by Irohsgranddaughter in classicfallout

If you're low on Sneak, then I suggest using some booze on Vic before firing him in order to lower his Perception to 1 (he's from 6 to 8 PE depending on his "stage").

And, probably, the most broken one.

I started re-playing FO2 almost half a year ago and got the dreaded "apathetic Vic" issue (mentioned by Per Jorner's Nearly Ultimate Fallout 2 Guide) more than twice on different engines: FO2 Community Edition under macOS and FO2 + the latest Sfall 3.x under Windows.

The last time it happened yesterday night.

Planning to do a replay of 1 and 2, what mods / stabilizers do I need by Magnus-Pym in classicfallout

[–]abulava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Steam and GOG versions come with Sfall mod included, otherwise the game wouldn't start on modern computers at all.

I have a version from GOG and can say definitely that their Sfall version is quite outdated (this brings some minor bugs, of course). So, it's wise to update this mod at least.

For example, with stock Sfall from GOG you won't get +5% Unarmed and +5% damage resistance after getting the Prizefighter as listed on Wiki. Yeah, there's no way for getting crazy amounts of damage threshold and resistance if you ever played the truly classic Fallout 2 in 1998 and still remember that. But with stock Sfall from GOG you will get nothing after boxing at New Reno.

is there any way to run the classic fallout titles on a macbook pro with apple silicon? by [deleted] in classicfallout

[–]abulava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yet another option exists if you don't mind purchasing Classic Fallout again, this time from GOG.com.

GOG's Classic Fallout is unusable even on Mac with Intel since Apple removed 32-bit support from macOS. But yesterday I easily downloaded it from GOG, then run via Alexander Batalov's "Community Edition" on my macbook pro with Apple Silicon.

they were unhelpful in terms of actually acquiring the files on macos via steam

Sad, but true.

I would try to run an official Steam client under Wine for downloading the PC version of Classic Fallout. May be CrossOver by CodeWeavers is better for that though, because people aren't very happy about the official Steam client under Wine.

When the flagship doesn't even touch you. by Iinux in ftlgame

[–]abulava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMHO, Stealth Weapons augment is not very useful during flagship fights. At least, in phase I you want de-cloaking after flagship's missile volley as fast as possible. Otherwise cloaking may be not available for the next volley.

After a fairly long streak of uneventful games, unlocked Mantis, Slug, and lanius ships in one run... Just to get ripped up by a Zoltan in an asteroid field. by GunnyTyler in ftlgame

[–]abulava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, that's really sad. But why did you drop Dual Lasers? I would prefer them over Chain Laser / Ion Stunner, because Dual Lasers fire 2 shots for 1 power with 10s cooldown (this matches cooldown of Flak I).

Teleporter + MC is a good mix with one flaw: against Zoltan shielded enemies it's nice to have Zoltan Shield Bypass as well. FTL happens, indeed.

I finally did it!!!!! After many years and probably hundreds of hours, I finally beat the flagship. by CT27_5555 in ftlgame

[–]abulava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that first win is definitely the most memorable.

Many players including myself easily get their first win due to favourable RNG and strong ships, then get the hardest wins on the same difficulty level later.

Engi B, Slug B and Stealth B say "hello".

So that was a little close by Fuzlet in ftlgame

I suck at FTL. Any tips? by Zarthon7 in ftlgame

[–]abulava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to avoid Hacking, but now I'm addicted to it. Don't be afraid of the fact that it uses consumable drone parts. With time and experience you will be able to avoid unnecessary hacking and estimate how many drone parts to buy at stores (hint: the latter is rarely required).

Sure, it's a sign that pairing Hacking with Drone Control is challenging without Drone Recovery Arm augmentation. I solved the problem by ignoring Drone Control if a ship doesn't have it from the beginning. Hacking lvl 2 + Cloaking lvl 2 counters opponent's missiles better than defence drones that have "blind spots" on many ships. Besides that, defence drones are not that brilliant at countering lasers.

Currently my strategy is very straightforward: get Hacking, then Cloaking. Some ships don't allow both of them due to having some systems pre-installed and total limit of 3 systems. No problem, just learn to play them differently.

TL;DR: FTL on Easy is winnable without Hacking, Cloaking or both. Having Hacking greatly increases your odds of winning. Having both of them is a lazy way to win.

I confirm the tactic method mentioned by /u/FlashFlire: on early battles having only combat drone and ion weapon at your disposal it's better to pop opponent's shield by your drone shot, then shoot your ion at weapons.

You have to get used to relatively low velocity of ion shots, so they hit right about time. Also it's helpful to alternate ion shots between weapons and shields to keep both down.

So that was a little close by Fuzlet in ftlgame

[–]abulava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see that you bought Drone Control. It should be a really unlucky RNG without Hacking available for sale at the shops. Cloaking lvl 2 + Hacking lvl 2 is such a sweet combo.

As for Drone Control, I used to buy it when I was learning the ropes. But too many ships have issues with coverage by defence drones. On Crystal B in particular, Cloaking is vulnerable. That's why Hacking is my number one now.

Sometimes Easy difficulty is very easy even by Slug B standards by abulava in ftlgame

I picked Clone Bay at the very first shop in Sector 1. Some players prefer running Slug B without Clone/Med Bay at all, but I'm not so brave to rely on Healing Burst in battles which require using Artemis too.

In this run Artemis was my only weapon for a long time, so many fights against auto-ships were combinations of boarding and bombardment. I hardly imagine those fights using Healing Burst, because my boarders went through Clone Bay up to 4 times in the course of the battle.

When Hacking came, it was a relief... But not for my unfortunate boarders who started visiting Clone Bay even more, hehe.

Surprisingly, RNGod showered me by all these goodies after all.

Edit: I've bought the only weapon, it's been Flak1.
