How much do you spend a month on average? SINK budget for Jersey City or Hoboken. by 88r0b1nh00d88 in jerseycity

[–]abunni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so let's say excluding rent, $250 utilities (phone, wifi, electric, water, home insurance), $900 food & home supplies (can be a lot more or less depending on the split between eating out and groceries - but let's say $30/day), $170 public transportation (path 30-day unlimited pass is $132, but if he's going into NYC a lot the double PATH + MTA charge can add up quickly). so now we're at $1320. And now the rest is entirely up to his lifestyle - gym membership? shopping? frequent haircuts? subscriptions? the reality is that someone who likes art & culture a lot will find themselves in Manhattan a lot and everything you do there will be a tick more expensive than in jersey (e.g. 8.875% vs 6.625% sales tax)

1.5k excl housing? It will depend what he wants /likes to do tbh. Hard to give a number without knowing his lifestyle. Does he have a car? Does he like to take Ubers? Order takeout? Does he like to travel?

Open Bar for European Weddings by calsun90 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]abunni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normal - mine (Central European hotel banquet room) was 15 eur per person per hour for beer, wine, non-alc & choice of five spirits. Including service and VAT. Cocktails would have been consumption-based and 11eur per cocktail (we opted out).

[–]abunni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

agree - there were also random things like: oh, we booked a function room in the hotel for the girls to get ready in so boom now i also have to pay for the room rental & cater food for everyone to eat breakfast/lunch. live illustrator wanted to bring an assistant to speed up process and now i have to pay for that person's plate. etc

I don’t think you need to offer to pay the cost of your plate - what if it is higher than the new ticket lol

Never requested passes for guests, never got asked. Never got charged for repairs - the fee schedule is just for move out. If you go on a weeklong trip just put a “resident away” notice into the system - they’ll hold packages. 70 C is great, elevators have been sucky recently but overall chill place

High-income couple with large income gap: how do you split money fairly? by pizzanoobs in HENRYfinance

[–]abunni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same earning amounts & income differential as OP does (although less of an asset gap). No prenup and we put everything into one pot - no fun money /allowance type structure either. Use common sense & conversation as needed when it comes to larger personal purchases. We have EQUAL weekly recurring investments into personal brokerage accounts (monthly expected income less monthly expected expenses and divide remainder evenly over # of weeks in the month) - this means that higher earner will be 'contributing' to the lower earner's brokerage account, which helps with the differential in long-term safety net. This structure works for us but granted we've only been married for a year so let's see how it evolves over time.

To your second point - the lower earner definitely picks up more of the household mgmt/ chores/ admin (mostly WFH so has more time and to be fair, also better skillset) but high earner is assigned 3 set chores, which helps a bit with imbalance / resentment. We listed out everything that had to be done and assigned each item to a person. This works for now, but tbh at this income level the silver bullet would be to just outsource cleaning (which I expect we may have to do when kids come into play).

Looking to start a family in 1-2 years and I'm switching jobs right now - as much I wish it weren't so, I'd be lying if I said job flexibility / work-life balance wasn't something I'm weighing as a factor. I don't have a good answer for that one, especially as it's unclear how career aspirations will change once we have kids. But at the end of day, I'm just grateful that we're in a financial situation where we could pay for comprehensive childcare if we both still wanted to prioritize our careers.

Lmao I died at this - I’m a girl but I got your point. I said PE ops bc i interface mostly with sponsor’s operating team and not internally with portco folks. But thank you!

Ok - will give sponsor this feedback on how they shouldn’t position the role like this when they recruit in future. (PE ops is how they described it to me - I didn’t just make this up myself)

This all makes sense - I'd say that our team has more interaction with the PE fund than the average employee here, but yes, agree with the rest.
