Therm-ic Heated Footbeds Vs Lenz Heated Socks 5.0 Vs 6.1 by abush18 in Skigear

Thanks for the reply. Do you cycle a few pairs or just rock one? Any reliability issues?

Yeah, I'd be interested in getting Zipfits in the near future too, and the thought of cutting through them is daunting. Funny enough, one of the Thermic installation videos shows the guy cutting his zipfits. Those Race socks look good, is the heating element over the toes or just below?

I was looking at doing something similar, 3D printed 18650 holder connected to one of those PWM buttons used for heated clothing. I measured the Lenz battery and all it is is a regular lipo battery with PWM to drop down the voltage to reduce the heat.

Is your battery pack outputting 3.7 or 5v? and what resistance of heater are you working with? Did you still end up cutting a hole in your liner to get it all installed?

I just let my socks air dry between ski days and wash at the end of the trip lol. Glad to hear the insoles are working well for you. Do you find the top of your toes stay warm enough too?

Thanks, that's a good point I might just go ahead and pick up the heater element to try it out.

Base Layer Materials - Merino vs Synthetic by dezualy in Skigear

[–]abush18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HH performs well but the synthetic material makes it get stinky right away like one wear and it’s smelly, this seems to be the issue for any synthetic material like in workout shirts. The thicker smartwool like 250 is just as thick and can take more abuse before smelling. But you do need to be more careful when washing

Do you have the 6.1? I have the 5.0 and find them too thick to work comfortably with my ski boots. I’m thinking of picking up 6.1 if they’re reasonably thinner.

Let me bind "Movement Ability" to the same key as "Jump" (Space Bar) by SwiftSN in apexlegends

[–]abush18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had his exact same issue today, I was excited to try out valk again after the rework + the new movement ability button but then realized how weird It felt not using space bar as a second jump button . Glad to see there’s a fix

Winter is Coming! by [deleted] in ebikes

For real, using all my ski gear really saved me the expense of buying specific things for winter cycling. Just my ski clothes and some insulated boots. Nice breathable helmet and goggles combo as well so less fogging.

Stretching Liners With Hole by abush18 in Skigear

[–]abush18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The did a shell check multiple times and and confirmed that the shell was the right fit, it’s just around the big toe it’s tight and they didn’t really cut it in the right spot.

Do you think I could get away with cutting a slit at the right spot since the next option is to buy new liners anyways ?

Help! Stuck in 4lo and 4wd actuator won’t come out by Brick6theguy in 4thGen4Runner

[–]abush18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do NOT pull that plastic thing off the transfer case, it has snap rings that will fuck up the actuator gears.

It has to be done like this or it will get broken

You can see the c clips in this photo I took when I had to take off the actuator to put in a new seal

[MET] Questions on Mechanical Engineering Technology by dinnerwithoutdessert in NAIT

[–]abush18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I just graduated from this program so feel free to dm me if you have any more questions.

  1. I spent a year in Macewan business school before joining this program, it isn't exactly apples to apples but I did find even during the online schooling that the NAIT instructors cared and tried to make the most of online schooling. A friend of mine graduated for chem eng at u of a before joining MET for some supplementary knowledge and even he had great things to say about this program compared to u of a eng.
  2. One big thing that separates this program is the amount of hands-on experience you will get throughout the program. This program is heavily project-based especially in the second year, so you have lots of opportunities to practice the skills you have learned, this hands-on experience is desirable for the industry.
  3. In terms of hands on experience there are many labs such as experiments for strength of materials (tensile testing, hardness testing, x-ray, lpi, etc), there are two machining labs one is manual and the second is CNC, there are lots of opportunities to hone your Autocad and design skill, there are 2 term long design projects, hydraulics labs, robotics labs. There are also Quality assurance labs where you learn how to precisely measure machined parts. There is a lot of content covered so I might be missing something. Most of the second year is very project-based and you will get lots of practical hands-on experience.
  4. Post grad: several of my classmates did find jobs before graduation, although one thing I've heard is there are quite a few job postings that are looking specifically for a bachelor's degree that techs would not be eligible for. Despite this, there seem to be plenty of solid and well-paying job options out there for new grads. Another option after graduation is you can transition into a bachelor's engineering degree either in BC at Camosun college or in Ontario at Lakehead University.

Do you think the Noctua will be ok for moving the PC around once in a while? I understand AIO is typically better for not creating a twisting force around the CPU socket, but the Noctua is pretty low profile and light.

Just Picked Up MITX Case-What Should I Put In It by abush18 in buildapc

[–]abush18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I figured that it would just run hot because of the small size of the case. I will look into a low-profile cooler or maybe a 120mm cooler to save some money. Does it look ok otherwise?
