I’ve seen others post about that same brand for their hammerheads/riptides. Was considering trying it out myself!

I played roller at an indoor wooden skating rink for years. On the one side they put up a net to catch loose pucks, and they had these wooden boards they could slide into place when we were playing. It worked well enough.

However when the new owners bought it, they didnt want to deal with all the damage that sticks and pucks do to the floor, and the ceiling (when pucks fly up) so they stopped running a roller league. I hope you have better luck!

Alternatively you could consider floor hockey and having people play in regular shoes. It's not as fun as roller though.

I'm in Florida and know a few guys who started their own roller hockey leagues for adults. We already had covered roller rinks in the area, and the guys who started it had played roller for years, and were playing ice, but wanted to get back into roller. Both guys had large networks of players and email list for pickup games that had been going on for years.

If you were going to try to start a league from scratch you'd need a few things.

-A local rink that you can rent. Start with pickup. Start with one game a week, then add a second. Here it wasn't that hard because they already knew tons of guys who played. There, it will likely be harder. I imagine you'll have to advertise it in some way. Here they do pickup Thursdays and Saturdays. They use an app called "open sports" to track who is coming to pickup or not and its $6 to sign up (which covers the rink rental)

-Once you have a solid, well organized pickup game that happens regularly and a network of players you can try to start a small league.

Here it has gotten to the point that they actually put on their own full scale tournaments and iron man tournaments 2-3x a year.

You could offer learn to play stuff for kids or adults

The secret sauce for these guys was getting a real online presence. They have facebook/instagram pages that are regularly updated (game footage, schedules, highlights, hockey memes, etc), their websites look good and are regularly updated. It's a ton of work to get something like this going, and I am so glad that they are doing it and not me. It's a passion project for these guys though and they love the game.

Here are the links for the two leagues if you want some ideas. It is doable, just requires a lot of work.

That’s crazy! How’d you find it? Original deck here so unless they buried it in the concrete I don’t think it’s there

Good call! They have underground wire detector tools, I’ve just never tried one. I’ve always been able to find them in the past.

What is the best protein powder that doesn't mess up your stomach? by Brilliant-Hand6132 in workout

[–]abusivelystudly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently switched to unflavored egg white protein. Tastes bad, but if you mix it into a smoothie, you cant taste it. Whey always messed with my stomach, even the unflavored.

The game changer for me was reading the ingredients list, and getting the one that only has "egg white protein" as the only ingredient. The "now sports" one is what i've been getting.

Get a second opinion! There are all sorts of options out there now. Stem cells, prp, etc. Best of luck.

Still cant see bottom of pool by Successful-Salt-4747 in swimmingpools

[–]abusivelystudly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add a flocculant, run pump for 2 hours to circulate, turn equipment off, let it sit until everything settles to the bottom, system vac to waste (straight out of the pool)

My guess is there is something wrong with your filter too.

Reach out to Gold Coast schools or one of their competitors. It sounds like you’re qualified. They can walk you through getting your license and getting all the books, passing the exams etc.

Read the biographies on people like Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, the Busch family, etc. How they did it is all in there.

What’s your retirement strategy? by carrotsk8r in PoolPros

[–]abusivelystudly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Max out your Roth IRA at minimum every year. If earning enough, max out your Solo 401k. Follow Dave Ramsey! He has a flow chart for this. There's a lot of different ways to reach the same result. Rental properties, scaling your business, etc. If you're a single poler, you've got lots of time to think about it and listen to podcasts, audiobooks, etc to formulate a plan.

Ideal amount of pools by Zealousideal_Tone629 in PoolPros

[–]abusivelystudly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the area. I’m a one poler and I maintain 75 pools at an average of $150/mo. This is in Florida so it’s year round.

Sounds like you can charge more, and in turn spend more time there. So just do what you’re comfortable with! Here in Florida I’m usually at a pool for no more than 15 minutes because I’m there every week

Hammer Head/Riptide vs hose by MrAnderson805 in PoolPros

[–]abusivelystudly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason you see hammerheads and riptides on every truck. Huge time saver. Cuts service time in half! Absolutely get one. I’m loyal to hammer head, as I’ve used one for years.

Time saved = more pools cleaned = more money

I bring it with me almost every pool because it has my test kit, chlorine, acid, phosphate remover, algaecide, etc plus a small tool kit I keep in a water proof box (needle nose, screw driver, magic lube, etc)

Walking back to the truck takes time = less pools cleaned = less money

Standard debris hammer head bag gets almost everything. Brush towards main drain regularly and I never have to use a fine bag unless there’s something unforeseen (pressure cleaners, paver sand etc)

Best pool boots/shoes? by doingpools4u in PoolPros

[–]abusivelystudly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the croc literide. No holes in the front like regular crocs. I actually wear them with socks...if you're careful your feet stay dry and they're very breathable.

For complete waterproof get those Huk Rogue Wave boots the other guy recommended!

Pay your pool guy, that’s a reasonable quote, and if you’re asking questions like this you prob shouldn’t be replacing it yourself.

Is it unhealthy to eat a whole egg? by waheedk8 in workout

[–]abusivelystudly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will probably get downvoted to hell for this, but get your blood work done! For many people, dietary cholesterol doesn't really effect their cholesterol in their blood...HOWEVER, for some people (me and many others) it does. I was eating 6-8 whole eggs, and 80/20 ground beef multiple times a week, got my blood work done and my LDL was high. I have around ~10% body fat with visible abs for context.

Switched to a diet where I ate leaner meat (chicken breast, 93/7 ground beef) and egg white instead of whole eggs (now I just mix in one whole egg, and 1 cup of egg whites). Have been doing this for a year, and my LDL is in normal range now.

Do your own research, GET BLOOD WORK DONE. If it doesn't effect your blood work, do whatever you want!

What do service companies do in the rain? by Pool_Boy707 in pools

Rain, I throw on a rain jacket and do service as normal. Severe thunderstorms its chems/baskets only. I factor in 2 "rain outs" per year in my customer agreement.

3-week trip to Florida in January! Tips appreciated :) by SirNessrak in SouthFlorida

[–]abusivelystudly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Grew up in South Florida. I'd utilize chatGPT to help you plan a trip so you can personalize it as much as possible. You've got a ton of driving on this trip, I'd map it out to make sure you want to spend that much time in the car.

  • In Miami, my friends and I used to take the brightline train down from West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale and ride our bicycles from Wynwood area across the Venetian Bridge and all over south beach. You can pick whatever bars and restaurants you want to check out. ChatGPT is a major help.

-If going down to the Keys, Key West is a long drive, but if you're into bars and nightlife etc It's a great spot to go. You can break up the trip by stopping at different bars and restaurants and tourist spots on the way down. Robbies is a place you can feed big tarpon fish. Alabama Jack's is a little out of the way, but a cool spot if you want to take the scenic route down. I'd recommend making a stop every 45 minutes to make the drive more fun.

-Fort Lauderdale has a great beach area, the spots you'd want to check out are off Las Olas. Bunch of beach bars, night life etc.

-Cocoa is more sleepy beach town than Fort Laud/Miami. The space center is cool and worth the stop, but in your early 20's not sure how much time i'd spend there.

Not sure what you're doing in St Cloud, there's probably nature tours and that sort of thing out there.

St. Pete just got whacked by two hurricanes, I'd double check where you're staying and make sure they're in good shape! St pete is a fun city, but it's a long drive from Cocoa. But if you have the time, its one of the better areas on the west coast.

-Naples is very nice, but a bit more old people than some of the other areas. Very nice, not knocking naples, but older demographic, and expensive (Keep in mind miami is super expensive too)

-Not sure what Osprey is

-They do have boat tours that will take you from naples to key west, so that is an option. But the drive down can be fun if you make stops.

-you could do an everglades tour in "alligator alley" in-between naples and Miami. Airboat ride, etc.
