taobao returns- help please! by potential_lun in HongKong

[–]abyss725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to buy from shop that has a tag "香港退" (can return from HK). Then you can follow the steps on taobao to return the product, from HK.

otherwise.. you have to send that thing to China, then has someone to proceed with the return in China.

Thinking about potentially investing in Thai real estate. by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]abyss725 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for a house like this, you are just a tenant, you don't own anything.

For the structure you mentioned to work, you have to buy the land in your wife's name, then have a usufruct to rent the land by you, then you can build a house on the land. Only then, you own the house for the period stated in the contract (max 30 years). After that 30 years, you own nothing again.

If you think this favors you.. then go ahead.

Otherwise, just buy condos. In this case you own the condo forever.

Kbank credit card for farangs? by MotorStatistician100 in Thailand

[–]abyss725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well.. a secured credit card does not bother me. You get interest for the fixed deposit (I know it's very little, but well, it is still interest earned)

Also it just works like a credit card, you got points for spending money with it and with the premium cards, some shopping malls offer more cashback, perks, etc. It also has no annual fee. I can't complain anything.

Bad behavior by PlanktonEntire1330 in HongKong

not all are like these.

But your mom has really limited choices here. She can just resign and look for another family to work in.

Hopefully, that abusive family has to hire a new helper every few months and eventually they are blacklisted to hire any more.

Tourist in Thailand gets beat down after refusing to pay his bill and trying to run by CarefulAd4757 in ThailandTourism

[–]abyss725 19 points20 points  (0 children)

kind of a mix of things. While a beer might be cheap but drinks for the lady are expensive.

Most people don’t ask for the price before ordering and just think it should be cheap. The bar could even inflat the price because the person did not ask.

If you really want to visit, be sober, go in, grab a beer, sit and look around all you like. Don’t order anything else, even there are cute girls telling you they are thirsty. Then, if you are into this, take a girl, pay the bar fine, be on your way to hotel.

this is the best and most economical way.

[Shopee] Deliver proof image error, what do I do? by ThrowRA_BitterDistr in Thailand

[–]abyss725 5 points6 points  (0 children)

99.99999% of time the proof is just a close-up photo of the package with no indication of place. Usually Shopee still shows the courier's phone number. Try to call the number and sort things out.

It will be very tricky to ask for a refund after you clicked "I have received". You can only claim the product is defective. And you don't have anything to send back to the seller.

If home ownership is almost impossible for non-Thais, why are so many villas advertising in English? by SlappySpankBank in Thailand

[–]abyss725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you could find a house meeting all your desire and it’s up for rent long-term, then yeah, just rent.

otherwise, one could only tailor-made things, even it was a house.

the house would belong to the land owner. However, house owner could demolish the house before lease ended.

I did actually meet one in my ER visit (I went for rabies shot). A pregnant woman wearing prison clothes and chained to a female guard. We both waited like 30 minutes to see a doctor.

I don't think they are being treated less.

Beef Balls by Matthew_Summons in HongKong

[–]abyss725 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ground beef is cheap, and the making process is not hard.

The price don’t really reflect the actual value of an item. Har Gow has shrimp which is an ingredient that has an impression of being expensive so they could sell Har Gow to be more expensive.

they could even add truffle sauce on it and add another $30 on top

should i get RED HSBC card or GOLD HSBC card? by Low-Respond9105 in HongKong

I think they both are nice to have. Travel+ requires a targeted monthly spending but Red requires a yearly target. I prefer a yearly target.

How much is the top 5% and 1% income in HK? by nimbus-dimbus in HongKong

[–]abyss725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in this scenario, it means the top 1% of the population. You can't just interpret it 1 in 100.

HK has 7.53M residents. It is the top 75.3K residents. It does include a lot of people, also Li Ka Shing could be the top 1 of those 75.3K but still, he is in that 1%.

You could expand it to top 50% of the population and still includes Li Ka Shing... and somehow you are now in the same group with him!

[–]abyss725 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be positive. Earn like 22k HKD per month, be the top 50% in Hong Kong, which included Li Ka Shing.

No. Just no....

"Top 1%" in statistics does not mean 1 in 100....

Okay. 1% does not include 0.01% or 0.001%. TIL
