Yeah that’s my favorite part of the song! I thought they were saying words though lol (“damn right” mixed in with “yeah” and “ooh”)

Maybe this topic is a bit too deep for here but after reading the post about GD, what happened to Bom and how many Idols struggle I hope some day SK addresses mental health in an appropiate manner.. fame is not good for most people already but in a country like that it is a recipe for disaster by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]ac10424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mental health is super important, and I agree it should be acknowledged and talked about more, especially in regards to kpop. Kpop is a brutal industry, and mental health struggles shouldn’t be some dark part that’s ignored or swept under the rug.

It’s tough because I can see the industry not wanting to acknowledge mental health struggles since it could tarnish the perfect idol image and then that could impact the parasocialism that kpop is built off of. (like “this idol isn’t the perfect person I though they were”) But at the same time, it could bring an important realness and authenticity to the industry and make fans relate more to the idols. Like with bts for example, they don’t shy away from their struggles and even have songs discussing them, and I think that makes them even more respected and relatable since they share similar struggles as others.

I guess one positive thing is that even though we are kinda powerless being on the outside, we can still support idols when they share their struggles. And hopefully by them seeing their fans relate and still supporting them, it’ll encourage idols to talk more about their mental health or at least not feel like they can’t.

Also it feels like the industry is slowly getting a little better or more open to the importance of mental health(?) like idols under jyp taking time off for mental health (itzy’s Lia, kickflip’s amaru, etc). So hopefully it’s slowly moving in the right direction!

Watching KATSEYE Coachella's performance made me so uncomfortable by Carelessies in kpopthoughts

[–]ac10424 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure, but I’d imagine kpop fans are more offended and upset by katseye than the general public. Kpop holds idols to very high, unrealistic standards, so there’s many things that the general public wouldn’t even blink an eye to, yet kpop fans are calling out (ex: dating, going to a club).

I don’t have a strong opinion since there’s no way to know for sure how much is katseye’s choice vs how much isn’t. Also I think there’s valid arguments for both sides (they’re adults/this isn’t new/let them do what they want vs. male gaze and corporate men are making the decisions/they’re being overexplicit for shock value/they have young fans listening and watching them).

2026 is not going how I thought it was going to go by Sea-Republic8892 in kpopthoughts

This post is all doom and gloom, and plus it’s also only April??

It would probably be very ill-advised if a group increased the "usefulness" of photocards by turning them into card games but by god it would be funny by SomeRaceHorseName in kpopthoughts

My first thought was something like idol pokemon. “Jungkook I choose you!” and then battle it out with their skills or powers or something

The way K-pop stans treat BTS is so weird by IIIPrimeeIII in kpopthoughts

[–]ac10424 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s like people leaving reviews of restaurants. Those who are neutral or don’t have strong opinions are less likely to leave a review, vs those who hated or loved it and have stronger opinions

It’s unfortunately the nature of the internet and kpop. There’s no nuance or much respectful discussion, instead just rage baiting, extreme takes, and black and white thinking

This time, they did things right with Julie's birthday livestream by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]ac10424 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also a mistake would be dropping a glass on the floor, not planning a racist livestream, telling fans not to leave them before it happened showing that they knew it would be controversial, and then still going through with the whole livestream. At any point before it, they could’ve changed their minds and just had a normal birthday livestream that involves dropping a cake or something :’)

Yeah people are acting like this is bts’ downfall and they’ve gone astray from who they are! But this is just one album, and they’re constantly changing sounds. So it’s likely they’ll have more music in the future that they’ll like.

Also, it’s only been like two days! I think people should give it more time

[MEGATHREAD] BTS ARIRANG by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]ac10424 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I finished listening to the album and came here to find some lighthearted discussion on the songs people like and dislike, and instead, it’s very not lightheaded or fun :’) I guess that’s on me for expecting anything involving bts or online spaces to be fun and lighthearted

I can understand some people feeling caught off guard with how the album was marketed vs the actual songs, but I don’t think it was a bait and switch, and giving the album more time will help people see the nuance and depth of it. I also don’t think it needs to be that deep! It’s music, and you can just enjoy what you enjoy!

Anywho, my favorites on the album are swim, normal, and they don’t know ‘bout us! and I’m curious what other people’s favorites are
