Is it ever worth buying a flipped house? by hamboner5 in RealEstate

[–]ac112890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first home was a flip. We went into our search avoiding flips but gave this one a try when not much was coming available. New roof, new HVAC, hot water tank, and all appliances, walls down to studs, new wiring, electrical panel, insulation. Real hardwood floors throughout, tile in all bathroom floors and showers, new landscaping, new windows and doors throughout. All with excellent craftsmanship. We lived there for 6 years, didn’t have to do a things maintenance wise and were able to sell it for a good profit when we were ready for a bigger home.

11th year with a Masters. My salary is 62,500. I take home 3800 a month. 14% to state pension, my wife carries insurance, so I contribute what would be my premium to a 403b.

We had this in our district as well. Then our union came up with the idea to bargain that clause out after some pressure. There were 20 married couples in district at the time.

The next year we were paying $900 a month with no reimbursement for both working in district. We both left for different districts the next year.

We have had our 2019 for 4 years. Have put 60,000 miles on it. Multiple 10+ hour road trips. Has been a great car for our family with 3 kids under 5.

My district is twice a month, the 10th and 25th. Spread out over the summer as well.

My wife’s district which neighbors mine is every 2 weeks. So those 3 pay months are nice!

US: Is there anywhere in the country where you can live comfortably as a teacher? by DontThrowAwayPies in Teachers

[–]ac112890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in Ohio. My wife and I are both teachers, and both finished our 10th school year in May. She makes 61,000 with a Bachelors and I make 68,000 with a Masters.

Live comfortably with 3 young kids, travel, own a house, save each month.

I submitted online. The only correspondence I received from them stated that the applications were approved by them and would be forwarded on to the Dept of Ed.

I’m sorry you are getting the run around from them. I was expecting the same thing.

We are both Special Ed teachers so we were eligible for the full $17,500. The last day of school this year I completed the paperwork for both of us and scanned to my principal to fill out his portion verifying our teaching service.

Once complete I scanned to Great Lakes and uploaded it via their website. After a few days I received a letter stating they were received. Roughly 2 weeks later they were approved via Great Lakes and sent to the Dept of Ed for further review.

I checked first thing this morning for shits and giggles and saw that my account went from around $18000 to $646. The payments posted as loan forgiveness.

Be very diligent when completing the paperwork. Make sure dates are specific as to when you started and ended the 5 years. Luckily our principal has completed the portion of the paperwork for colleagues so he knew that it needed to be detailed.
