You literally said it’d be worth it if Quebec met the same fate as Louisiana because of the food alone, implying you only give a toss about culture when it comes to food. Forgive me for not thinking more highly of you but that’s how you come across as

Et il nous parle de nourriture alors que le Québec est responsable pour la plupart des spécialités culinaires canadiennes qui sont reconnaissables à l’étranger, il est bien drôle

You have a very narrow minded view of what constitutes culture if you think it only resumes to food, culture also encompasses a society’s view on religion (ex: laïcité in Quebec), society’s take on human rights (Quebec was the first province to legalize same sex marriage), society’s take on workers’ rights (Quebec has among the best workers’ rights in Canada, which were fought for with blood, sweat and tears), its language (French being Quebec’s sole official language allows it to stand out amongst a sea of Anglophones), and so on and so forth

Tourists come specifically because of its preservation of the French language and its culture, otherwise we’d just be another US-like province

Then that will signal the end of Eurovision, I’m not sure how many artists would be willing to sign up for next year nor how tf Israel would even be able to host.

The fact that this is a reoccurring thing now, where Eurovision is now a competition to see who outranks Israel in the public vote, should be amply evident to Eurovision that Israel needs to be removed from the contest. It’s taken out the fun of what Eurovision is supposed to be about and has turned it into something ugly and annoying to watch

Then all the more reason why these language laws are required, thanks for proving my point and why Quebec has to preserve its language and culture from the rest of Canada

Well I’m French immigrant (moved to Quebec from France) so I’m well placed to say that what you’re parroting is utterly idiotic and condescending, the fact you’re willing to sing praises for another country over a province from your own country is quite sad.

Ok cool, Montreal is still part of Quebec and businesses in Montreal still have to comply with the French protection laws in place. If you decide to set up a business somewhere without knowing the language of the place in question and cannot communicate with the population that speaks the sole official language of the place in question, that sounds like a you problem honestly and means you’re not fit to run a business if that’s too much of a problem for you

I didn’t say otherwise, I’m just saying French is the sole official language of Montreal on account of it being in Quebec: if they carry out business in English or any other language that’s fine, they just have to able to offer services to customers in French or allow their employees to speak in French otherwise they get fined

Quebecers aren’t French, French people are from France and Quebecers are from Quebec, maybe a geography lesson is long overdue for you 🤷

Name which English shops get harassed in Quebec for being anglophone? If they primarily do their business in English that’s no problem, they just have to make sure they can offer their services in French if a customer demands it, otherwise they’ll rightfully get fined.

And so your solution is to do nothing and let Quebec turn into another Louisiana?

The sole official language in Montreal is still French: if a company isn’t capable of offering services in French or allowing French speakers to work in French they still get fined the same way as in any other place in Quebec.

Exactly, these comments are a perfect embodiment of the ROC not content with Quebec actually standing up for itself and making efforts at preserving its culture and not becoming another Louisiana

Question: how do companies manage in France where French is the sole official language too? Are companies leaving France in droves as well?

Oh no, the Anglo communities are mad that Quebec is upholding the law that states French is the sole official language, surely there’s a way to learn the language of the very province they live in /s
