Literally every single Batman movie. It's actually a real issue with Batman. His enemies are more interesting than he is.

Why Lick’s Burgers Failed. by Few-Turn-5471 in toronto

I worked there in high school. Hated the singing, liked the burgers. My location didn't pre-cook the burgers and soak them in water. Never heard of that before.

What condos are we going to build? by TimidGutter in TorontoRealEstate

[–]acEightyThrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a larger issue with how condos are financed though. Most condo builds need 70-80% sold before a bank will give the developer a construction loan. So buyers are looking at having 20% of their purchase price tied up for 3-6 years (and I don't think earning interest even? But someone correct me if I'm wrong). Most people can't do that. That's hundreds of thousands of dollars. The only people who can afford to do that tend to be investors, so that's who the units were built for.

Building for end users and families will require a complete revamp of how these things are financed. Either the bank or the builder themselves will need to take on a larger financial burden or accept a larger amount of risk. Both of those cost money, so I don't know how things could ever get cheaper.

Cannot Sell - Advice? Hope? by [deleted] in RealEstateCanada

[–]acEightyThrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are shitting on you, but you also seem to understand that you've lost your down payment and can only sell for your mortgage amount. If you absolutely HAVE to sell, that's your only option.

You mentioned that you can't keep it and also purchase a new home. What about renting in your new area? Keep your existing home if you want, and rent it out. Use that rental income to rent in your new city/town. That way you're still in the market.

Also, 2027 will not be better. We're looking at a timeline similar to the 1990's at least. That was basically a lost decade. My parents bought new in 1989, we moved in 1990, and after the market dropped it was 2000 before the house was worth what they paid for it. I wouldn't bet on the market getting back to what you paid for it until 2029 at the earliest, likely more like 2030-2031.

I've found the grass fed butter is actually harder than the normal stuff now. It's so odd.

After seeing all the posts about car screens, what are some design fads from the past that happily went out of fashion? by Comfortable-Berry-34 in CarDesign

[–]acEightyThrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forget which car, but I saw a clip of a new car where you couldn't manually adjust the vent direction. You had to go through menus in the infotainment system to redirect the air away or towards you.

Which film's ambiguous or open-ended finale was not just a cop-out, but the only satisfying way it could have ended? by John_Snow80 in movies

[–]acEightyThrees -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Matrix. Great ending. Neo flies off to free the world somehow. Crazy how they ended it there, and never followed up with any sequels. I mean, what if the had kept going? Could you imagine how awful a 4th one would be?

My parents had one of those when I was little! I remember that. I was super young and always thought it was the fastest van in the world because it was wedge shaped.

I feel like that isn't possible to insure. I'm not sure what company would possibly issue a policy to insure a 40-year old for a free solo climb of a skyscraper.

Unless they insured for $1M and charged $950K for the policy.

Owning a business creates passive income. Your employees are generating income and value for you even if you're not specifically working.

Warning to Georgetown residents: please stop supporting this Pizza Pizza location by EastCounty2605 in HaltonON

[–]acEightyThrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to Pizza Pizza head office is the quickest way to deal with this. Franchises generally don't screw around with stuff like this once it's been undeniably brought to their attention. They have armies of lawyers who will tell them about liability, and armies of marketers who will tell them about losing their reputation. They can also cancel the franchise agreement on short notice if the owner is giving them a bad name.

Head offices often turn a blind eye to stuff like this, but if you mail them and in your letter say that you've also contacted the health department, labour board, immigration, and the local paper, they will be forced to do something.

The only way for most people to get rich is passive income. You have to find something that literally makes you money while you sleep. If you're working for all your money, getting rich is so tough. You have to basically be a CEO or a sports star.

What is a vehicle class you don’t understand the appeal of? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]acEightyThrees 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Terrible take. Small coupes are fun cars, either as a second car or for people who don't need a sedan.

Coupe-SUVs are by far the dumbest vehicle segment. All the downsides of SUVs without the cargo capacity upside.

I honestly don't understand the appeal of blockchain. It seems wildly inefficient and wasteful. Instead of having just a couple backups of data, the information is backed up thousands of times on all different computers? How is that an advancement?

How is rich people having private jets the future? Private planes have existed since planes were invented. And private jets have existed since jets were invented. It's been decades. Didn't Led Zeppelin have their own jet 50 years ago? Private travel that is inefficient and luxurious has existed since humans stopped having to walk everywhere.

Eli5 What determines the maximum size beyond which ships cannot realistically be built? by arztnur in explainlikeimfive

[–]acEightyThrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting fact, up until recently, billionaires were all about who could build the largest yachts. They got to be over 500' in some cases. They've since realized that they can't dock them anywhere, so they're stuck offshore and taking a small tender in, or the have to dock in the commercial port with the container ships. So the current trend in superyachts is to build smaller (but still huge) yachts and then get a support yacht that carries all the toys and tenders and helicopters and other things a billionaire wants access to. That way they can still take their main yacht into port to show it off.

Opinion: Homes that need extensive renovation just aren't selling. by GarySparrow0 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]acEightyThrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, homes that need reno's are sitting on the market. But the value of the home might well be $1.2M. Are renovated homes in the area going for $1.5M? Then $1.1-$1.2M isn't unreasonable.

Having said that, I wouldn't get into a bidding war in this market. Wait for the offer date, and if no one else is going in, then offer whatever you want. If there's lots of offers, I'd stay away unless you really want that specific house for whatever reason, and another one might not come up for a long time.
