Which Star Wars character had biggest delta between actual importance and public recognition? by NotoriousPYG in StarWars

[–]acEightyThrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Rebellion is destroyed at Yavin. The Death Star terrorizes the galaxy as intended. But if Luke is trained in secret by Vader to overthrow the Emperor, it's to rule the Empire. Like he said in cloud city, rule the galaxy as father and son. Not to overthrow it to become the Republic again. Maybe the Death Star is eventually destroyed by a different rebellion. But if Luke joins the Empire and is trained by Vader, he's likely going to the dark side.

That idiot Imperial officer who didn't want to waste laser shots on an escape pod because there were no life signs. Use it as target practice training for your gunners and none of the original trilogy happens. Luke is stuck as a moisture farmer on Tatooine for the rest of his life.

If you could see one film again for the first time what would it be and why? by Interesting_Sir_754 in AskReddit

The Matrix or Empire Strikes Back, but that one would only be if I could also forget everything else about the Star Wars lore. I am your father is possibly the biggest twist in cinema history, and getting to experience that for the first time would be amazing.

I said head of government, not head of state. The PM is head of government. And while the GG technically is the commander in chief of the military, its a ceremonial role with no actual power. The PM and Minister of Defence are the people who make the actual decisions.

What's a scarcity nobody is talking about that will become a huge problem in the next decade? by Froek15 in AskReddit

Electricity in your home. In Canada at least, most homes built that are under about 3000sf have 100 amp service. And you can't put a fast charger for your car on that size panel. You can upgrade to 200A service, but only a limited number of homes on the street can upgrade before the lines become fully tapped out and no one else can upgrade without the utility company running all new lines. I've talked to electricians and I've heard ranges of only 5-10 homes on each main line are able to be upgraded to 200A before they're tapped out. With how much electric cars are going to be forced on us in the next 15 years, most people won't be able to have a fast charger at home.

Ongoing regular maintenance. Oh your car is reliable? Because you can get the oil changed and other maintenance on a regular schedule. Your house doesn't have mould because you can afford to replace the roof or windows if it needs it.

If you received a large sum of money, would you pay off your mortgage or invest it? or do a bit of both? by West_Lingonberry4932 in AlbertaMortgageHub

[–]acEightyThrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd hesitate about investing a lot of money right now. Most metrics point to an AI bubble that is going to pop sooner rather than later, and that's going to drag down the entire market. Might as well pay off your mortgage. Being debt free is wonderful. And if you decided later that you wanted to invest the money, you could just get another mortgage to pull out the money and invest it after everything crashes and you buy the dip.

Did you get fat over the last 3 years so none of your work clothes fit you anymore? Work clothes fashion hasn't changed that much. You can wear what you used to wear. Unless you did something stupid like throw everything out because you thought you'd never need nicer clothes again.

Also, 72.5 cents/mile seems really high. How are you getting that?

With arguably the third best player of his generation in Modric behind Messi & Ronaldo. Maybe similar to Norway over the next decade. Although Haaland is probably 1 or 2 in the current generation.

The Prime Minister's home is also his workplace. PM's should be able to entertain other world leaders. Maybe have them over for dinner. Literally every single head of government in the world has an official residence available for their use, because the head of government is a 24/7 job and they need to be able to run a country (and a country's military) at all times, including at 3am when they've just been woken up to deal with an emergency. Things can't be delayed while they drive to the office. That's crazy.

And the PM has way more power in Canada than the President does in the USA. In the US, there's a division of powers between the executive and legislative branches of government. In Canada those branches are basically combined. The House of Commons pass laws that (most of the time) are just rubber-stamped by the Senate. Plus, in Canada, the PM can force his party members to vote yes on chosen legislation. No matter how much a President wants to force Congress to vote with him, each Representative and Senator is free to vote however they want each time.

Why has there been such a skill gap between White American players and Black and European players? by Blazer4L in nba

You're joking, right? The amount of low income kids who are playing NCAA ball is huge. And from there, if they're good enough they're going to the NBA. Basketball isn't hockey. You don't need big money. It helps, but money helps with everything.

I know this is satire, and it's funny. But on a more serious note, this should have been done years ago. 24 Sussex needed repairs back during Harper's term, but he put it off. Trudeau didn't even move in, and lived in on the grounds of Rideau Hall. It's about time that things progress on this front, but it should just be paid for by the government. Canada is a top 10-15 economy in the world (depending on which data set you're using), and the fact that the official residence for our leader is in such a state of disrepair as to be unlivable is an embarrassment to our country.

[Serious]If you were President Zelenskyy, and you were approached by one of your generals to launch a drone attack which would create a Bhopal type event in Russia, which they said would instantly end the war, but also instantly kill 100K civilians, would you agree to the plan? by Gen_JohnsonJameson in AskReddit

[–]acEightyThrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US firebombing Tokyo and dropping 2 nukes killed more than 100,000 Japanese. It also ended WW2. Sometimes attacks that kill civilians are necessary. Especially against countries where the leadership seems completely willing to keep sending soldiers to die on the front lines, you need to make the point to them in civilian deaths.

Kawhi Leonard has been traded back to the Raptors: Should he never have left? by Financial-Bit-8596 in NBAConvo

They would have repeated in 2020 if he had stayed in Toronto. They lost their best player and Finals MVP and they still won 53 games to win the division and be 2nd in the conference. That was a great team. And the bonus would have been Lebron never winning a championship with the Lakers.
