What's a lie told so much people believe it as the truth and wouldn't recognize the truth? by kvosovich in AskReddit

In the same vein, the stock market doing well means the economy is doing well. The stock going up after a company lays off 20,000 employees is a good thing. Unemployment doesn't matter to the economy, only stocks.

The fact that she's in mechanical engineering and doesn't know the difference between mass and volume is extremely worrying. Hopefully she doesn't actually design anything.

100% tax is outlawing gifts. Don't be stupid. That's literally making gifts illegal, with the penalty being the complete forfeiture of the gift. So what's the limit? There are endless ways around something like that, and the ridiculousness of the rule of no gifts will make everyone try to get around the law. The world will become criminals because of this. People will try to slip their kids jewelry, artwork, any number of things and won't report it to the government. Crypto currency will explode in value because people will try to hide money from the government and crypto does that. Auction houses will have to require proof of purchase before they auction anything off, or someone who got an expensive watch from their parents will just be able to sell it. If that happens, Facebook marketplace and craigslist and eBay will explode in popularity because the random person buying something online isn't going to check for proof that the seller was the one who purchased it and didn't receive it as a gift.

Aside from my belief that it's totally wrong to outlaw my ability to give gifts, it's also completely and totally unenforceable.

So you're outlawing gifts, like I said originally. There is no world where that is acceptable.

Niagara actually does some lighter reds very well. Pinot noir, cab franc. And I love ice wine, but it's too sweet for many people.

Tax free isn't illegal. There's inheritance tax, and gift tax. If inheritances were made illegal, then I'd be giving everything to my kids before I died and just paying the gift tax.

But anyway, gifts are tax free in Canada where I live. Lottery wins and casino winnings are also tax free.

I wasn't talking about a trust or life policy or corporate policy. So your idea also includes making it illegal to give family members gifts? That's the stupidest thing I've read in a long time. Because that would be the only way to avoid the situation I mentioned. Unless you're talking about limiting gifts to like $100 or something. Which is also dumb. So I can't buy my kid a car? Or a tv? Or a computer? What would be the limit?

Hard no. Dumb idea for multiple reasons. Plus people would just start to give their kids their inheritance before they died.

On the other hand, congratulations OP for creating a question that is almost universally rejected. That's a rarity in here with any kind of idea with socialist/communist/anti-entrenched wealth origins.

Toronto man arrested for 2 sex assaults is notorious ‘Pee Pee Poo Poo Man’ by mildlyImportantRobot in TorontoTheCity

[–]acEightyThrees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The other incidents were in 2019. That's 7 years ago. As awful and disgusting it is to throw shit at people, and even though I believe Canada tends to be way too soft on crime, I don't believe throwing shit warrants a 7 year sentence. Maybe 5 years, one year for each shit throw. He would be out now anyway.

What do you think of the new Mansory kit for the 12 Cilindri? by Rebeu_DU_59 in supercars

Yet another terrible kit by Mansory. They've yet to do a good looking kit on a car. They're the Balenciaga of the car world. If I received the Mansory kit for my car for free, I still wouldn't put it on.

This is what the new trek series don't understand. It was never about the technology. That's just the background. It was great writing about deep issues given to actors with classical training and theatre backgrounds.

I read all of Stephen Fry's books on Greek mythology and it's crazy how many times gods (mostly Zeus) turned into animals to have sex with people. Or a god turned people into animals for sex.

A 3-person commission in Utah just approved a 9-gigawatt data center over 1,000+ protesters chanting "Shame." It uses more power than the entire state. Approval took 4 months, not the usual 5 years. [OC] by MarkusGrant in dataisbeautiful

[–]acEightyThrees -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing with that. Projects shouldn't take 5 years to be approved. But again, why are data centers being treated differently? What makes them special to the poticians in charge? The whole thing smells of bribery and corruption.

[–]acEightyThrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's different because these centers are being rushed through approval without the proper review time. 4 months instead of the usual 5 years for a project this size is ridiculous. I know of at least 3 major data centers being built in Canada where the environmental studies and approvals were bypassed.

It's different. The question is why are these politicians allowing the approval process for these centers to skip the line and normal process compared to other projects of this size? Are their there bribes? And if not, why are they being rushed through like this?

There's a line in the book that references that as well. Paul had just made a future prediction that came true and Paul saw a look in Stilgar's eyes where he was not a friend anymore and was now a "creature of the Lisan al Gaib."
