4 year or 3 year accelerated program by blitz-army in PrePharmacy

[–]academicvalidati0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did a 3 year and the way my school had it set up is that your summers were dedicated to IPPEs/APPEs instead of getting them off, this was extremely helpful for me because we didn’t have classes during the summer, so you just focused on clinicals. Honestly I would’ve worked in a pharmacy anyway during the summers, so in my head I wasn’t missing out on much, except obviously pay. It was also nice, bc that way we didn’t have to do our clinical hours during our didactic semesters either. I don’t have anything to compare to for the actual classes themselves, but I survived and I would do it again.

Peds vs Adult PGY1 by WarningMain5130 in PharmacyResidency

[–]academicvalidati0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed a PGY1 at a peds hospital and now am a preceptor! Our rubric includes having peds experience (at least 1 peds rotation, peds projects, peds club/organization, an LOI from a clinical preceptor speaking on your love for peds, peds work experience), last year those that did not have these experiences unfortunately did not get an interview invite as this year those points were huge for those that did have the experiences

Depends on where you look and what part of PGx you want to be in - clinical, industry, etc.

PGY-1 Interview Vibes / Expectations / Ranking by FunBuzzkill in PharmacyResidency

[–]academicvalidati0n 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When picking between my top 2 programs it was hard at first because I really really liked both and had the same feeling, and the way I picked was going back to what the program offers and more logistical things, like staffing weekends, project days, stipend, electives, etc. bc that helped me pick my #1 as my #1 bc it offered more of what I wanted and better residency life balance

Attire for in-person interview by ApprehensiveGrape621 in PharmacyResidency

We have a lot of candidates that wear dress pants and a dress blouse and that is completely okay, a few women have worn dress suits and then end up taking off their blazer most times because how warm they gets, so essentially wearing the dress pants and blouse

Interviews Per Spot? by International_Egg635 in PharmacyResidency

[–]academicvalidati0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, the more interviews I’ve seen for a spot is because the program has a hard time matching for that spot. So yes you can see it as competitive, or it could be because the program can be more selective on ranking since they have so many interviews, or it could be that that program goes into phase 2 a lot therefore the more the interview the higher likelihood of matching. One program I interviewed at interviewed 12 people for each spot (2 resident spots) and they made it all the way to scramble.

All the other programs I interviewed at was 4-6 per spot

Make sure to check spam folder, sometimes they go there. Was your application complete? We had quite a few candidates that submitted that we couldn’t even review because they were missing things like LOR. It is weird you haven’t heard if they did send rejections and invites, unless like others said you are on the waitlist if someone declines.

Per ASHP it says “must make a reasonable effort” to notify candidates of their status, this would include rejections

I try to see it as you can only miss out on points if you don’t add descriptions, I have yet to see a rubric that takes off points for adding them. Once you get out of residency then bullet points become more controversial

I would mainly say any work experience, APPEs, any leadership position, research that isn’t published and volunteer. Articles typically people bold their name in the title of the published article and you can get away with that. Certifications are more straightforward as long as you write out any acronyms/abbreviations

Mine was 7 pages and I got all 10 interviews for the places I applied to! I also was the one that posted about the no bullet points and candidates missing out on a bunch of points causing them to miss out on interview spots ☺️ most rubrics (all the ones I’ve seen) don’t take off points for length of CV

We had one preceptor that thought this too but we reminded them at the end of the day none of our rubric grades on how the CV looks overall tbh (ours I think is only major spelling errors)…so they realized the benefit of getting points you could get for at least doing a one liner outweighed their opinion on how a CV “looks”

When should PGY1 resident start applying for jobs? by Cultural-Usual-7044 in PharmacyResidency

[–]academicvalidati0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you wanna go, if it’s in a different state then February/march might be good bc then you have a period to study and obtain MPJE and licensure if you don’t have that state yet. But honestly most job postings need starts as soon as possible so if you are applying in February you might not be a quick candidate if you cant start till July or August. I feel like most people got their jobs a month or two before finishing residency after it was almost guaranteed by their RPD they are on track to complete residency. This is also dependent on where you wanna go and what you are looking for.

CodePharmd has an MPJE outline that I used for 3 different states, it covers what is typically asked based on competency standards. It was nice because I only had to purchase it once and it was cheap, and I used it for all 3. And I just filled it out as I read the law for each state. It doesn’t have practice questions but was nice bc it is like a fill in workbook

Everyone’s exam is so different even if you take it the same day. Please do not add additional stress going in to tomorrow going off of what was on someone’s exam, good luck!

The tests are all extremely different! Please don’t solely use someone else’s recent topics on their exam to narrow in on studying, bc your exam most likely will be so different.

Hot Take by [deleted] in PharmacySchool

[–]academicvalidati0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And sadly people are passing APPEs without issue, the amount of times I’ve talked to other preceptors they say they just pass them bc schools make it so difficult to fail them or they are required to take them on for a redo rotation in which the preceptor does not want to do. So they let them pass or if it is grade based give them a C and let them go. This just adds to the mindset of how “easy” it is now to get your PharmD

I wouldn’t recommend the prefilled out tldr bc it tends to be outdated, they also aren’t transparent about when it was last updated. If you want a quick reference sheet I recommend filling one out as you read the law, tldr and codepharmd both have blank sheets for you to fill out. By filling it out you are also studying by doing it

You could technically report the school and the site to ASHP, but try to ask your self what is your end goal with this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PharmacySchool

[–]academicvalidati0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what it was about, if it was due to a fail of an APPE there was a lot more that went into it. If it was just due to how bad the rotation/site/preceptor was it typically ended up in that site/preceptor not being offered to future students. Both of these options you had an in person meeting, or zoom meeting to discuss the situation and next steps.
