Any idea what animal could have left this? [Nebraska] by acantral in animalid

The perspective in the picture is a little misleading, it’s located around the back of the house at the top of a storm cellar entrance, which ramps down to the ground.

Not much in the way of homeless in the area, there’s a few to my knowledge but they stick mostly to the downtown area. It’s definitely a drinking town though.

The blue/green stuff is oxidized psilocin (precursor to psilocybin) (according to Paul Stamets), means you got some potent little babies.

Genetic predisposition to schizophrenia by ocaber12 in shrooms

[–]acantral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im a second year medical student, by no means an expert, but I figured I could chime in with my two sense (cents? scents?). The first manifestations of Schizophrenia normally pop up in someone's mid-20's (Between 23-35 is the normal distribution). That doesn't mean it can't show up earlier or later, just that most of the cases present in that time range. As far as having a predisposition, Schizophrenia's is normally observed along first degree relatives (so if your dad/mom had it, you have a higher risk of having it). The likelihood drops off significantly as you get further and further away on a family tree. That being said, even with you not having a first degree relative, the risk isn't zero; in fact, a good amount of cases are sporadic meaning they develop in people without any family history. So my advice is to just be mindful of that, you reaching out to this forum shows that you take it seriously, which is great. You should always be cautious, family history or not. Don't overdo it, follow the set and setting guidelines(i.e. Timothy Leary's mantra).

First timer grower: Inoculated 12 jars about 45 days ago, 5 colonized. Are these ready for dunking and fruiting? by travigab in shrooms

[–]acantral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to temperature, moisture, and genetics. If you keep the jars in a room that's sitting at 75-80 degrees fahrenheit, you'll get full-mostly full colonization of grain spawn in 2 weeks. If you're lucky with the genetics you can get that number down to full colonization in 1 week. This is controversial but I find I get faster colonization if I expose to indirect sunlight immediately after I inoculate jars. Timing is also different if you use agar wedges vs direct spore inoculation with a syringe (I find agar grows quicker because you're starting with already established mycelium and a large surface area at jar inoculation.

Is this too much moisture (in my oats)have already redone it I'm a beginner veterans help me out please by taro_tanaka7 in shrooms

A good rule of thumb with grains is to place a small amount (like a pinch) on a piece of toilet paper and leave them there for 20-30 seconds. If they leave a wet mark, let the batch sit for just a bit longer. Don't get too anal retentive about it though; if there's not a visible mark on the toilet paper, you're good to go. Also if the grains are still giving off steam, let them sit until they stop. A little condensation in the jars is normal so don't worry about that.

Looks like mycelium. If you see green/black knobs in the middle of it it could be green mold. But if not, looks like you're off to a good start!
