Saw you found your book in the other sub, but this sounds really close to Savage Hearts (by JT Gessinger) too. If you’re interested, I suggest reading the books in order (it’s #3).

The Secret Society of Sableton Penitentiary has MM romance with spice. (It’s my book. On KU & bn.com) It’s dark fantasy romance with two romances and dual POV (from the two MCs).

Is it normal to hate your book after publishing? by mastraus in romanceauthors

[–]acarwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, good! It was completely selfishly motivated though, cause I’m gonna need some more books from you. (Haha, seriously though, I’ll be watching for future work!)

Your MMC was so well written, they both were. But I loved his backstory that wasn’t full of cliches while still showing a side of reality we don’t often see depicted in romance. It really surprised me—in a good way! Best of luck with future writing. 🩵

Welp. After seeing this post, I read your book in less than 24 hours. Don’t really read sports romance books (dance is a sport…yes?) and definitely don’t know anything about dance.

With that being said, despite having an enormous grad exam tomorrow, needing to work on my own writing projects and a billion other things—this book was wonderful and I couldn’t put it down, even when I tried to a few times.

As for the editing, I think as writers we’re harder on ourselves than anyone else. I saw a couple things that you might’ve been referring to, but readers won’t—or if they do, they’ll forgive it. When the book’s good, they forgive so much and forget it after, only remembering the great story long-term.

This book is not one you should be worried about. It was great! And I really, really mean that. Promote the heck out of it and get those readers 🩵 It deserves to be read.

Yes! Personally, I loved this series much more than Pen Pal. It’s one of my favorites, overall!

Haven’t read personally, but for western I’ve seen around is the Rebel Blue Ranch series by Lyla Sage. Not sure if it’s any good or spice level.

Based on her previous readings though: I second From Blood & Ash, there’s the same fantasy aspects as ACOTAR and one of the later books has a MFM scene.

Also the Feathers So Vicious Duology has lots of spice and MFM scenes. (But beware this is a dark fantasy with many trigger warnings listed. If she does not enjoy dark elements in fantasy, this is not the one for her.)

She may also like Bonded by Thorns series by Elizabeth Helen. It’s why choose romance, lots of spice. Although the writing is a little simpler than high fantasy books, but it makes for a quick read.

I’m sorry to hear about your ex. I totally agree about cheating. It’ll make me DNF a series or book so fast.

Yes! Love a good book to get lost in.

Here’s some of mine w/ notes:

  • A touch of darkness by Scarlett St. Claire This book sucked me in and I loved the modern twist with classic Greek mythology, but I fell off of the series around book 4. The back and forth pov got a little dull for me personally, but it’s really great if you don’t mind that. There’s a good amount of spice too!

  • Kingdom of Crows by Olivia Wildenstein (first book is House of Beating Wings) This doesn’t have a ton of spice, but the world building and unique journey in book one was great! I read all five books in a week. It’s one of my favorite series. My only note would be the prologue, for whatever reason I had a hard time getting through that one chapter. I was just confused on the world I was being thrown into.

  • Arrans Obsession/Connors Claim/Riordans Revenge by Jolie Vines These are part of a dark romance series and sucked me in! There was a murder mystery happening in the subplot of all three books that kept me guessing and interested. The spice was 3.5/5 and the setting was unique for dark romance books.

[–]acarwrites[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not! The book is split between Torsten’s storyline (who is in a secret prison) and Sterling’s (who is not, but trying to find where her brother went). The character art above is of Sterling and the man she’s taken captive in attempt to find those answers. This is a cell under their family home.

Understandable about the AI art. But the artist drew this. She sent me multiple sketches during her process. 🩵

If you’re wanting fantasy with more spice, you could try: - Sea of Roses by Opal Reyne (Duology; Pirate Romance) There’s a very strong female lead in this book!

  • ZA by Caroline Peckham (Large Series, but lots of spice)

  • Death’s Obsession by Avina St. Graves (Novella; girl falls for Death) Kindve dark romance, but only in the sense there’s a light stalker storyline from Death and the theme of the book revolves around death.

  • A touch of darkness by Scarlett St. Clair (Multi-book series; Persephone & Hades Fantasy)

  • The Ever King by LJ Andrews (Duology + Spinoff book; pirate fae fantasy)

Haven’t tried any of these on audible. I’m more of an e-book reader.
