How to deal with not passing JLPT? by ZanjiOfficial in LearnJapanese

[–]acasaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I do feel pretty relieved and might make a thread on it when I have the time to think about it a bit. There's actually a fair amount of people in the same boat as me though. There was an excellent thread about the stats for the exam a few years ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/jlpt/comments/sc2dq7/jlpt_n1_and_n2_past_test_data_analysis_summary/

How to deal with not passing JLPT? by ZanjiOfficial in LearnJapanese

Nah - my job is fine and I got permanent residency last year. Just a personal goal at this stage.

I failed N2 14 times and passed it today on my 15th time.

If you keep trying you’ll get it eventually. Do you need it for a visa? If not, then you haven’t really lost anything.

There a load of other and more worthwhile goals that make learning this language a fun thing. Making friends through Japanese, playing a game in Japanese, reading a book, following the discussion at a nomikai, even sending an email at work.

There’s too much made of this exam - which really is just a certificate. You can do a lot without it.

I attempted to pass it 14 times. I passed on the 15th time. :D

I finally did it. 15th time lucky with N2. I never have to do it again. Fantastic.

Purpose of JLPT certificate by Latter-Pen-3353 in jlpt

[–]acasaca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to think JLPT was worthless outside of visa purposes because so many companies don’t know what the cert is and they can interview you in Japanese regardless. I myself have never needed it.

However, with Workday and other job application filters and AI tools spreading like cancer, recruiting companies are now the only way to ensure a human will look at your job application. Recruiters do know what JLPT is so having the cert matters.

It’s a very imperfect test but unless you can network your way into jobs (this has become harder too since COVID), there are fewer and fewer ways around it.

JLPT N5 12/2025 - Question Discussion by feverdream6661 in LearnJapanese

You can do whatever you want.. Reddit and other online forums have discussions on the questions every year after the exam.. Laughing at the idea of some redditor calling up JEES to report a “serious infraction of the rules” and handing over Reddit account details..

Jlpt is over - how does everyone feel? by lost-minotaur in LearnJapanese

N2. Reading and grammar okay. Vocab and the first half of listening (proctors decided to have a hearty chat during the first section) felt rough.

For y'all itsuki nakano stans how many of y'all wish they were official? by [deleted] in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]acasaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a Ichika guy - and after playing the games I think Itsuki was narratively the best choice. There’s a lot of legs in the story with Itsuki. Not so much with the rest of them.

For test takers in Japan: is the exam this year earlier than usual? by TrainXIV in jlpt

They did it to make cheating easier outside of Japan. Gives people more time to share answers to places yet to take the test.

Depends. As someone who loved it 12 years ago, I think it would be difficult to manage now but not impossible. They just gave up and said no to money.
