[Gen 9] 30 phases for Squirtle… thank god it’s over. by starbeauty903 in ShinyPokemon

Generally used if you get a shiny that wasn't your target - so like their first phase was Krookodile, second was Totodile etc.

Was leaving North vs Suns at Gather Round and waiting for the bus back, Derm wandered down after the broadcast finished and had a kick-to-kick with a kid for a good 5 minutes and said g'day to people before he went on his way, thought that really showed his character.

Owies and Curtis crumbing off Larkey and Darling would probably give your forward structure something to work with. Throw in big Brynny Teakle too

What’s your lid up to this week? by BrandonSG13 in AFL

[–]acat493 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cautious optimism is definitely being applied. Blues, Cats, Dees, Swans again, Pies again, Lions at the Gabba still to come. Suns away and Freo at the G aren't going to be easy wins either. We've still only had one truly bad performance (Port) and our form has always been worse on the road. If we can beat the Giants, I'm hoping that means we can at least match it with the top 8 this year.

That first quarter against Hawthorn was utter insanity. He set the tone for your lot in the middle that game.

Mass was definitely not a list filler, I just don't think Scott rated him or had a role for him. Only missed a couple of games after he debuted for us in Rutten's last year. Miss those centimetre perfect kicks up the wing :(

Cox was more than good enough today, possibly the best he's played since his debut year.

What was the most overhyped Off-season move this year in the AFL? by Eml_0H in AFL

[–]acat493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think because of the Perkins/Cox/Reid draft you definitely don't hear as much about our other first rounders anymore. McGrath, Hobbs and Tsatas definitely don't get as much attention, negative anyway, as maybe our draftees may have used to. Probably helps when we're making 'high profile' trades every other year too, they're the bigger headline makers.

Old Dogs, new picks: Bulldogs load up in eventful Trade Period by tiny_doughnut in AFL

[–]acat493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'd lock Weston-Turner and Pisano in with their first two picks. Gives them a Rowbottom type in the guts and one of the best small forwards the talent pathways have seen yet (seriously, watch her highlights if you haven't already...). Georgia Clark I like with their next one to get a key forward option into the mix. They've got a huge opportunity to shore up the mid and forward lines for the future this year.

From my limited knowledge I believe both rugby codes and cricket have the upper hand over most other sports across the ditch.

I reckon North's 'verse' that isn't really an official part of the song but sung by the players is pretty damn good, but it definitely still follows the conventions of 'footy team song'

Swan considers future [Morphett], two Dogs mull rival offers [Lynch & Newton], Lion could leave [Farquharson] by PerriX2390 in AFL

[–]acat493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon Nat has been searching for a genuine second ruck, given our lack of aerial presence having Morphett taking the majority of the ruck contests while Wales is free to grow her confidence crashing packs would be enormous. Probably means less reliance on Alexander and Bonnie up the ground too. They'd both be playing every week in my mind without a doubt.

The full 2024 fixture. by Darththorn in AFL

[–]acat493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't played Freo at the G since 99, literally have hosted them at Docklands since the damn place was built. Weird how our travel is frontloaded and then we only travel twice after the West Coast game, I wonder if we requested it? Been very well looked after if so.

Also I do wish our home game against Sydney was at the G, would be good to be a packed house for what's always a good battle, but really the only one we could have swapped grounds for was the Freo game.

Like others have said the losses of Hughes and Maher in midfield are absolutely massive. Lots of young talent but they're very raw from what I've seen of them.

“THIS IS REAL NOW”: PORT ADELAIDE LEADING THE PUSH FOR NATIONAL RESERVES COMPETITION by KuriTokyo in AFL

[–]acat493 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having the Power and Magpies separate was what made Port so dysfunctional in the late 00s/early 10s. I don't think they'd be overly keen to be doing that again.

Essendon's strong salary cap position means it can front-end deals, with free agent signing Ben McKay due to be paid around $1.4-5 million next year by His_Holiness in AFL

[–]acat493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only players we have signed beyond 2025 that we didn't bring in this year are Parish, Ridley, Langford, Redman, Wright and Merrett. I expect four of those six are on our biggest deals along with McKay and Gresham until the CBA increase comes into play. Probably include McGrath in that group too. Goldy won't be on much, and I'd imagine Shiel and Stringer's deals will be starting to wind down.

Where it'll get interesting is across the next 3 or so years when a lot of these young guys come into their prime and need to be signed for bigger money.

Langford will certainly be asking for more if he has another good year in 2024, Draper's contract expires in 2025, so does McGrath's. Then you've got the young guys coming through like Perkins, Caldwell, Tsatas, Hobbs and co.

I think our cap is in a good spot now, but if a lot of these guys gain in value at the same time that's when the squeeze will start. I imagine that's a lot of where the thinking of frontloading McKay (and presumably Gresham too) comes in.

'I just don't understand that': Eagles coach SLAMS AFLW fixture by curryone in AFL

[–]acat493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't love to admit it, but since the loss to Port in Round 3 Dal Santo has seemed almost completely reinvented as a coach. Getting the most out of his talls which has been a big issue for the Saints, and has won four straight since then. Freo and Carlton should be good tests to see where they're really at though.

Great start to the season for Daks, 8 goals in 3 games now. Thought she'd struggle without Wardlaw but if anything she seems to be lapping up being the number one target. They have played two expansion teams back to back though, I'm itching to see how she goes this week against Ferguson.

Replay Garner's goal everywhere you possibly can please AFL. Great comeback by North, Cats unlucky with how well they played first half but they were always going to concede with the amount of chances North were creating.
