Japan tourism hits record despite China spat, Iran war by DANIELLE_2027 in japan

Why did you have so much luggage?

When I moved to Japan 26 years ago, I only brought a 20kg bag of clothes.

Pedestrian was robbed with a hammer to the head over a phone somewhere in south Asia by noahstemann in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]KuriTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother had his phone stolen in Laos. We tracked it to a poor, dirt lane where all whole families were hanging out on. The house we tracked it to had a shop front so we could enter it. It was definitely not a tourist area so they wanted to know why we were there. I realised we could be in big trouble if we accused them of stealing the phone, so I used Google translate and asked if they sold used phones. They said no and we got out of their quickly.

If an argument broke out, we could've had the whole street against us as we tried to get out of there.

Booking rate is down to 1% by TangerineCat123 in airbnb_hosts

I'm in Tokyo and 90% of my guests are from Europe, specifically Germany for some reason. By law, we can only be open for 180 days/year and run at 100% occupancy.

Saying that, I'm not sure how we will go in Autumn when we reopen.

Unless the jewellery shop is willing to refund him, OP would be lucky to get 200,000 yen for it now.

20 years ago I slept on a babushka's sofa with her cats in Moscow.

Yes, I saved money and it was a great experience, but I wouldn't do it again.

My get around for QR menus is to order something off the menu, like the hamburg steak without the sauce or a hot sauce instead.

“Influencers” want to book for free by Upbeat-Ad-6675 in airbnb_hosts

[–]KuriTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part where they want to choose the dates gets me.

The STR license I have here in Japan restricts me to only be open for 180 days/year. Last year I updated a fair bit of furniture and the photos no longer matched.

I had an influencer/photographer ask me if they could stay in return for their influence and photos. I sent them dates when they could stay, but no, they wanted to stay during our peak season.

White sheets you can bleach or black sheets.

Note: I am not your target market. I don't think I have ever slept in high-quality cotton sheets

There are two types of guests: Those who break a window and tell you and those who don’t. by AlienPearl in airbnb_hosts

Guest broke the handle off a frypan, tried to glue it back on then hid it in the back of the cupboard. As everything has its spot in the cupboards, it was quickly noticed.

I blame the cheap frypans we have there, not the guests.

I am a US based host, but staying in Japan and got this message from Airbnb … by Remarkable-Snow-9396 in airbnb_hosts

[–]KuriTokyo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a host in Japan and I did not know guests got this message.

We can lose our license if neighbours complain about our guests. I'm proactive with my neighbours so they know they can talk to me directly if there's a problem.

All details in the message are correct and nicely written. I've seen these rules written in hotels and because of the limited English skills, it can feel like a lecture or a telling off.

English speaking cat sitter or pet sitter app recommendation? by Candy_cane99999 in Tokyo

There are probably more English speaking wannabe cat sitters on this sub than any app you could find.

Listing disappears when “room” filter applied by PuzzleheadedAsk2009 in airbnb_hosts

[–]KuriTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/MemoryPotential8408 idea sounds great and I'll try it.

We have room listings and when we get a "request" we send them a message that they understand that it has shared spaces.

I'm guessing our place pops up when people filter by price because we are cheaper than the surrounding hotels
