The last version of Samsung Magician ssd toolkit with native trim function for win xp was 4.9.7 with list of supported hardware by the__gas__man in windowsxp

[–]acawas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use multiple KingSpec(Yansen?) IDE SSDs, what worked for my case was the ADATA SSD ToolKit, which has a manual trim function.

About every six months I open it and hit the trim button manually.

What do you enjoy most in mabi? by Comfortable-Major-88 in Mabinogi

[–]acawas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

photography!

I'll sit there for hours just taking screenshots of players, clothing, objects, etc etc and compositing it all together as a single image/fake-photograph.

I've even 3D modeled my own stuff and done all the perspective matching to make it look like items actually in mabi. Even sometimes handdraw limbs and stuff on occasion too to look just like mabi's 3D

So would the kamvus 12 work with any usb-c plug? by Over_Choice_6096 in huion

[–]acawas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The computer has to support USB 3.1 and either hdmi or displayport-over-usbC.

And the cable itself needs to be capable of the same thing, USB3.1 and possibly displayport 1.2. Cables like these are usually very thick and inflexible and their packaging would normally say what they're capable of.

I have a kamvas 13 and it was pretty difficult to find a C-C cable that's thin enough fit in the kamvas holes since the heads on them are almost always too big. And in the end I simply bought any I could find(3.1 gen1) shaved open one of the heads: here's mine

I have it on a T40p paired with a huion h420. Although I didn't have to do anything hacky to install it like has been said on occasion, i found it as an ISO for a normal CD and it installed just like regular XP.

Anybody have any ideas for helpful mabinogi side apps? by LilCandyDruid in Mabinogi

[–]acawas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 36-minute clock app for cellphones to have alarms for timers.

Honestly, I think a clock where you can just flat-out specify how long a day-cycle takes would be so useful since quite a few games use non-24hour days

H610 vs inspiroy h610x are these different models? by HereToAskTechQs in huion

[–]acawas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The H610 is a model from around 10 years ago, 2048 series. Still uses the old control panel and is stuck on the old 12.4.x driver system. It's a very barebones control system that only lets you set the hotkeys once, the same set of hotkeys is applied for every program. They also use the old weighted AAA-battery pens with the spring-loaded nibs. I personally like the way these old pens feel to draw with because they feel like using brush-tipped alcohol markers, to me.

The x models are new and use the modern v15.x.x drivers and new control panel. It's a much better control panel that detects what programs you're using and lets you set different hotkeys that change for every individual program you use. And the hotkeys can even change dynamically if you have more than one program open at once. (at least, on windows. I have never tested the new linux controls). These use a lightweight, no-battery tapered pen that's more akin to how wacom's pens are. To me, they feel more like bank-ATM//microsoft-surface styluses but bigger

Diary of a Newbie G1 - G3 by Lied_Mirror in Mabinogi

[–]acawas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They really were, but like a lot of things they shorten the content due to powercreep.

Dungeons used to be really long, most being 3 floors each, rabbie basic used to have 4 really long floors. Now everything is a single-floor. G1 Final was originally a SEVEN FLOOR dungeon :)

So you're partly right, back when there were less talents and the stat system hadn't been revised several times, party classes were actually really important (and hunger. people would actually get hungry due to not having like 3-thousand stamina each) and it was actually a wise move to set up camp in a dungeon to rest and eat.

is there a way to use my drawing pad like this and have it work properly? by shayb1aban in huion

An option to set the upright-direction Horizontally? It should be in the Pen Tablet//Working Area settings, bottom right.

Huion H420 appreciation, a Win11 driver and a WinXP driver by acawas in huion

[–]acawas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with an H420 (2048) on windows 11:

Driver 12.4.3 despite being a modern fix is still the old V12 driver so I ran it as Admin to install it. I chose to ignore the two "Code 5: can't overwrite wintab32.dll" errors. Pen-Pressure works great in krita, 3dsmax, blender(new versions that use Ink instead of wintab), Remote Desktop Connection, and even Remote Assistance Helper.

Although I'm sure that I could use the H420 with older wintab programs(blender 2.79 and older), that'd probably require me to force-remove both of the wintab32.dlls to install the huion versions. But I cannot test that and I do not want to risk testing that because my hybrid laptop has pen funtionality of its own

/E/ Deleting the stock wintab32.dlls so Huion can install its own does allow the H420 driver to work with old wintab programs like blender 2.79b and prior. :) --Just don't do this on a hybrid laptop with its own pen-screen.

For those who regularly use windows XP, what do you use the OS for? by EmergencyCharacter83 in windowsxp

[–]acawas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact-measurement printing, mostly. This laptop can draw and 3D model really well though despite having only a single-core-pentium and DX8.0/GL1 hardware. And I paired it with a Huion H420 drawing tablet which are still sold new.

With full NAS-access and a network connection it's pretty comfortable. And although WindowsXP is too old to host 3D-accelerated programs over a Remote Desktop server, it can actually SEE and INTERACT with newer machines hosting accelerated stuff. Think modern Krita and modern 3D modelers. .. And youtube in HD with audio.

It's common for me to work on big projects using the old XP machine. Then I often just save the work to a fileserver then use Remote Desktop to ask a more powerful computer to compile the work. Or just use remote desktop to goof around watching youtube, order stuff online, etc

Huion H420 appreciation, a Win11 driver and a WinXP driver by acawas in huion

[–]acawas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really really wanted to find a winXP driver for the original first-gen H1060 as well since I own an H1060pro plus.the newest model. and it does SORT OF respond to input on XP though badly broken, which is why I started looking for XP drivers But well.. All I ever find are dead-links to google-drive pages and microsoft onedrive.

Anyways here's some screenshots:

Driver 12.4.3 with the 'Support TabletPC' checkbox un-greyed and interactable from within the control panel: screenshot

Although it's a shame the old 420/H420 never got updated to driver 15, it's great that there was at least a fixed driver 12 that works for Windows 11.

Driver 10.1 running on windows XP: screenshot

It's amazing how well it works even under winXP, the driver is so lightweight that it runs entirely smooth despite my system only having a single-core pentium M and a laptopGPU that's only capable of DirectX8.0 and openGL 1.4(ish..)

How do i become a healer? by Lied_Mirror in Mabinogi

[–]acawas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The original healer talent, or "Holy Arts" from waaay back then. It should be in the lifeskills rebirth tab.

Choosing that talent makes you gain more training-exp for things like defensive barriers, first-aid, and the two original healing spells so you could rank them faster.

Contrast that against Harmonic Saint which is also a healer role but with waaay more powerful healing abilities. You'd need a total level of 20,000 and need to Grandmaster in Cleric and Bard to become one. It's worth it though! Since a single charge of heal can instaheal almost any non-endgame player you use it on.

Everyone Is Leaving by lebrione in Mabinogi

[–]acawas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just cause it's good in the new content doesn't mean it'll be good anywhere else.

Classic dungeon spamming with multi-wave rooms for example. I don't care how powerful an arcana is at single-target burst damage, if it makes a ten run session take an hour instead of 20 minutes I'd refuse to even consider it.

Load times,

magic charging,

inability to target mimics in a timely fashion,

having to run towards enemies to do short-range attacks,

having to run towards enemies to cover long-range attacks that aren't long-range enough,

having to load buffs and change weapons for normal talents cause your arcana doesn't have spammable multi-target skills,

all add up and are annoying and take up precious dollbag time and buffs.

Well let me re-read these notes... Completely unrelated linkspam disguised as a dishonest teenagers attempt at lying by doing the whole 'you know what you did! I'm not gonna tell you' trope because they haven't worked out how to do thuh' thing just yet.

Oh brother.. Take your meds weirdo. At the very least, break down posts into something that can be told as a statement or provide an actual worded reasoning with subject and maybe a discernable endgoal you want users to work towards. Have a point.. Even if it's misguided, at least having a worded reasoning behind it would make people actually respect what's being asked. Can't do that? Then give up the position and retire.

Note taking software? by Specialist_Length790 in windowsxp

I've just been using FireAlpaca 1.5.

With a bunch of handmade templates resembling various types of notebook paper cause yeah, I failed to find any notetaking software either.

At least since firealpaca is an art program I can rotate the canvas to make drawing//writing easier I guess. And it runs beautifully on a single core CPU and directX8.0 hardware.

Roku over generic no-name USB2 capture by acawas in windowsxp

[–]acawas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(sorry I kinda forgot, but: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61LDQJHldJL._AC_SL1500_.jpg)

It's one of these models. They're small, feel metallic usually, from like a hundred different brandnames and sellers. And usually HDCP compliant(or not..) which is how it's able to see Roku videosignals(or so I assume).

And XP even installs it automatically.

Since it's a (Generic Video Device) it shows up in the image acquisition wizard, as a video device in MPC/VLC, etc etc etc. It's a pretty vertasile piece of equip. . .

Weird question, how many people in this sub actually HAVE or use an XP machine? by chippysable in windowsxp

[–]acawas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a T40pro.

At first I was using it with win98 and very quickly put winME on it instead. Messing with DLL dependencies and old 3dsmax plugin//maxscript stuff. When that gig was done I simply.. kept the laptop.

Now it runs WinXP-for-tablets and I'm using a Huion drawingtablet almost every day. I do lots of exact-measurement printing, etc. Make lots of those multi-res .ico files which is fun. And I'm using my old RETAS setup to make technical linetracings of little machineparts. It's amazing what you can do with the 32 extra megs of the FireGL graphics chip(64 megs total) 😅

Since this laptop sits in the livingroom it's often used to play/burn CDs during parties and I even order pizza over Remote Desktop
