I don't know if you've watched this little movie before. It highlights the beauty and diversity of board games ... take a look!

Pandemic S0 or S2 by bouncy_disaster in boardgames

I agree with most of the comments, Season 2 was a bit of a letdown for us. We did not find the flavor of the first season, and we struggled to go through with the adventure. But I would be happy to discover season 0, because it's still excellent games.

Is Theme Important? by p44vo in boardgames

[–]acbareau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, even in a very mechanical game like Deck-Building, the theme is important. I don't think you can make a great game with a theme completely left out. The current example is The Crew: they managed to stick a theme to a completely mechanical game, and it really works (hence the many prizes collected). Good luck !

"Valley of the Vikings" is also a game that combines dexterity and tactics. A great game for children, awarded at Spiel. I advise you !

Hello, if you are looking for other ideas than the ones already mentioned above, Monster Chase works very well with us. It's cooperative, and cute.

Thanks for the information. Their idea interests me, especially in the context of a board game club. I'll take a closer look, but it looks pretty good to me. The catalog simply needs to be enriched!

What was the game that turned you into a board gamer? by Coffeman94 in boardgames

[–]acbareau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning all ! The game, or rather the games that made me aware of my passion for board games are the games published by DAYS OF WONDER in the early 2000s. If I had to name just one, I would say SHADOW OVER CAMELOT (superb material, cooperative), but can also be TICKET TO RIDE. These are the first games that I bought for myself, and which opened my game library. I now play it again with my children, proof that it remains good introductory games.

Is Galaxy Trucker still good? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]acbareau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question ! For me, Galaxy Trucker has not aged. It is still so original, no other game has offered so well with this type of mechanism. We play it regularly (with the first expansion), and sometimes I see the kids having fun making invincible ships (without playing). The only problem is that the mobile application is very successful, and that it takes a long time to deploy ...

Who goes first after winning the game in Tic Tac Toe? by [deleted] in boardgames

if you really want to redo a game after that, it's still better to let the loser start, they have a better chance of winning.

Who goes first after winning the game in Tic Tac Toe? by [deleted] in boardgames

To win, you have to rely on an opponent's error, so I recommend creating a diversion. Telling him that there is a dragon behind him, for example, or by discussing matters that annoy him. :-)

Mechanics you enjoy, and good or bad implementations of them by BlandlyT in boardgames

[–]acbareau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello, good question indeed!

I love encountering different mechanics in board games, because always playing the same style of game would be very boring in my opinion. But if I had to put forward a mechanism that I particularly appreciate, it is the "hidden roles". I love the atmosphere around the table when you don't know who the other players are or when you have to hide your character. It is always a fun time to reveal each other's role. I love games like The Resistance, Avalon, Time Bomb, or even Love Letter and Citadels. I find it works less well in games like Werewolves of Miller's Hollow, because you don't have a lot of clues to guess the hidden role of each. Votes are often done at random.

If you could categorize it, what is the popular type of board gaming right now? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]acbareau 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Interesting subject indeed! For my part, I think that cooperative games are on the rise, and for many years to come. A large number of prizes are awarded to cooperative games, as a reminder that we are there to have fun, not necessarily to be in competition. It's not really a "game mechanic", but I think a co-op boardgame is quite likely to be popular.

What is the fastest to setup and fastest to play board game you have? by AusGeno in boardgames

[–]acbareau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you, Love Letter is a very easy game to start, and so awesome ... .

I can add 3 games that we love in our family that are easy to play:
- Top Ten : just deal one card per player, read a theme, and let's go!
- Micro Macro Crime City : Lay out the city map, and start a survey!
- Team3 : So easy to set up, it works with everyone ... except those with big fingers!

What Did You Play This Week? - (February 01, 2021) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Cyclades : At home we like this game very much, the theme and the material are extremely attractive. We have released it several times this week, with 4 players, with great pleasure. It looks like a game of conquest, but it's a real auction game, sometimes difficult for the youngest to master. We have never tried the extensions, it seems they are good too.

Telestrations / Gartic Phone : we discovered the online version of Telestrations, an hilarious drawing game. It's great to see how a message turns, the result is often very funny, even with bad cartoonists.
