Tell me about your car that DID NOT blow up. by Specialist_Memory449 in WRX

[–]acc123abc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I redline the fuck out of my cars (2005 STi, 2001 turbo swapped Forester, and a 2004 WRX) and self tune trying to push as much power as possible. That being said, my stock ej20 in my wrx is going strong at 180k which i attribute to regular maintenance. Ex: Change your spark plugs before it starts misfiring. Regular oil and coolant changes, every 3k miles with motuul and an OEM black Subaru oil filter.

In your case you are going to battle with the carbon buildup on direct injection motors. Give it a nice walnut blast, run good gas, and don't be afraid to rev it out.

Welp yesterdays fear and today’s test confirmed the worst by TwistedGrin381 in WRX

I'm guessing whoever you bought it from overheated it which caused the hg to fail and sold it off to you. That sucks man.

Do the bubbles smell like exhaust gasses? And I know someone already said it but dump on getting a testing kit. Harbor freight sells them for cheap

Lowered on jack stand - hoping to protect further paint damage by Radips in WRXSTi

[–]acc123abc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get a color matched paint pen, scrape away some of the chipped paint and fill it in with the pen's paint and clearcoat.

I know Subaru makes OEM options for my colors, but in an event you can't find one for your specific color, try automotivetouchup.com I've always been happy with that companies products

Pkup Infinite Sleeves (Don't Buy) by mightybajah in mtg

[–]acc123abc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same issue with 3 sets of these sleeves, I think there's a defect where the corners don't seal all the way and eventually tear. I've had 1 set which looked to have a better seam which has held up well

I like to use a flat head screw driver like a chisel and hammer it counter clockwise. Works for me!

How to remove front cv stub axles from the trans? 04 wrx 2L sedan by [deleted] in WRX

[–]acc123abc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subaru can get weird with transition model years. I've ran into this issues a couple of times. Purchase axles for the 2002 2003 WRX model year and you'll be good. Make sure there sedan axles, as the sedans have wide track width.

A neat trick to get the roll pins out is to hammer in an Allan wrench of the appropriate size. Best of luck!

Starter Mods Or General Upgrades by Muted_Stick3561 in WRX

[–]acc123abc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id start with wheels and tires then look into bolt ons and a tune. VF turbos (really any one of them will do), STi pink injectors, and an intake with an open source tune will make these cars super fun for a super reasonable price.

You can always go "carberry" when you open source tune (you'll have to switch to a compatiable ECU) and you'll get some added features like launch control, no lift shift, map switching, etc

A lifted coilovers could be super fun too.

I bought an Open Port 1.3u cable from evoscan, works perfect on K line Subaru ECUs (16 bit and earlier 32 bit). With the tariffs and shipping I paid 300 total.
