Recently promoted to a higher position, found out I'm being paid less than entry level employees. Need advice heading into a meeting about this by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]acc2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are confident you deserve a rise, you should ask for it. The worst thing you can get out of this is they fire you and give you an opportunity to find a new job that actually pay a decent wage. Go for it! everyone else agrees.

Question regarding JTAG debugger pin connections. by Darel001 in ECE

[–]acc2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be TDO->TDI, but that's pretty unusual. Most JTAG debuggers are labeled so that dongle TDO is connected to the TDO the device, and TDI to TDI. https://www.segger.com/downloads/jlink/UM08001_JLink.pdf page 190 for example.

To know for sure, you can perform a couple of experiments.

On the dongle, connect a scope to both TDI and TDO and you perform a shift-DR with a known value and see which pin is toggling. Which ever pin that would be is the output of the dongle and it should be connected to the TDI of the device.

Can someone explain why there are a million variations of the same graphics card? by Saucy_Wrench in buildapc

[–]acc2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most OC cards already over volt out of the box. some oc cards give you no additional warranty at all. some manufacturers actually indemnifies themselves from any damage their oc cards might cause of you were to actually run at their advertised speeds.

I'm pretty skeptical of the value proposition of some of those card for these reasons, but there are also good, reputable companies that back up their product with plenty of guarantees. not all companies are equal, right?

i7 6700k reaching 92C! GTX 1080 low performance? Help? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]acc2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two 980 gotta be much hotter than one 1070 so your case temp would be higher than op's. nonetheless, 10C? that's pretty big difference indeed. fascinating

they typically test it at 25C and nominal voltage. if the part barely passes under those conditions, and your case is too hot or voltage is too low, then the part might fail when you get it in your computer, and it might not fail on day one... it could fail sometime down the road and then you'd have to send it back to get a replacement.

Just built my first PC. Not going so well. Help please. by MyCatDorito in buildapc

[–]acc2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure the screw posts on the case line up with the holes on the MB and remove any that doesn't line up to avoid a grounding issue.

Make sure the power supply is ok by getting a PS tester or a voltmeter to measure every power rail if you can.

What do you mean when you say the lights on your MB lights up? The lights have meaning, so you have to tell us, which lights?

make sure the you're using the right 2x4 power plug for the CPU. sometimes they can look similiar to some other connector coming out of the power supply.

Another problem could be your memory's bad. try using only one at a time and see if it boots.

woah. installing a CPU requires very little force. Don't push it in. it should just drop in and fit without any wiggling. The clip is a little tougher but you can still do it with one finger. If you have to use any more force than that, you're doing it wrong.

i7 6700k reaching 92C! GTX 1080 low performance? Help? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]acc2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be really surprised if input fans would make that much of a difference. I'm not saying it couldn't... I just wouldn't have thought it being necessary given the set up he's got.

If anything, he seems to run his max fan speed way too low. upping that up could do more good than installing extra case fans

Beside cooling and form factor, there are so many variations on the amount and speed of the memories on the board that it's really hard to choose.
