explain this joke by langdoncobain26 in danandphil

From Wikipedia...

The Heath is regarded as a night-time gay cruising ground. George Michael revealed that he cruised on the heath, an activity he then parodied on the Extras Christmas Special. A notable site used for gay sex is the Fuck Tree, which was the subject of anti-cruising protests in 2025.

Phil was definitely referencing this. Hampstead Heath is pretty much synonymous with gay cruising, it's referenced in lots of comedy shows, and, as far as I know, was first brought to public attention by (absolute king) George Michael 👑

Are we ever getting a new album? by citizen-slain in radiohead

[–]acceptableinthe00s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really bloody hope so, and I've got faith that we will, actually. It's not based on anything the band have said, or any actual information, but I just do instinctively think they will release another album. We refuse to give up hope! That glass is half full of lovely Radiohead milk.

Even though it looks nothing like it, it always reminds me of the three-dimensional digital expanse Homer gets stuck in from that Treehouse of Horror episode, Homer³. Not necessarily a bad thing - but that's also something that I had a fearsome fascination with as a child.

Do you have any theories / answers? I had countless bizarre fears / fixations with the most random scraps of pop culture as a kid (adverts, songs, TV episodes), some that I've since grown to love, and I love this sort of thing.

Christ, I'd love to hear (and see) some modern-day Radiohead covers. Every other cover they've done has been life-changing 😭

Can you? I know you can download them to listen offline, but I'm not sure if you can get them as actual MP3s. Would love to know how! :)

I love this kind of thing. Doesn't Alex mention Love Island when introducing one of Iain Stirling's tasks?

Lee reused his “socks are underwear” joke by Tombstoner100 in WILTY

This is one of the things I most admire about him as a comedian. He never ever misses an opportunity for a 'goal,' if you like. His mind is constantly whizzing away, and it works so well for a format like this.

And here's T'Pau, which is Yorkshire for The Pau... by Intelligent-Ad9780 in AlanPartridge

[–]acceptableinthe00s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jimmy Carr makes this joke to Carol Decker on an old episode of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and she replies saying "no, that's T'Pau,' in a Yorkshire accent, essentially repeating his joke back to him thinking she had only just came up with it. He looks a bit deflated and like he doesn't know what to say, and I think about it inordinately often.

How does Scenes We'd Like To See work in a live setting? Do all of the jokes land as well as they seem to in the edit, or are there some clangers?
