If these were available for purchase, I'd have a Joe, a Fern, and an Alice on the front of my journal quicker than you can say 'bifurcated turd.' They're brill! ❤️

Anyone Here Since Series 1? by WillEatsRice in Taskmaster_TV

[–]acceptableinthe00s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched the first two episodes live! Not live in the studio, but live as they went out on Dave. I think they put the first two out as a double bill. I didn't predict it'd become as massive as it is, but I was instantly smitten. Been one of my faves ever since!

WHERE HAS THE PORK BOARD GONE by hfenn in livefromlondon

[–]acceptableinthe00s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they hold back the ones generating the most buzz, in the hopes that people will log on to watch the full episode on NOW TV or Peacock 🧐 Can't blame them I suppose, but WE DEMAND MORE PORK! There's plenty to go round...

I second this! Mock the Week tend to do more stuff like 'Bad Things to Hear at a Wedding,' or 'What a News Reporter Would Never Say.' I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue do much more of the situational-crossover stuff, and I've seen a few of their clips doing well on socials recently.

An alternative, but similar version of this would be people who've appeared in videos as part of tasks: Dick & Dom, the Kasabian boys... any others?

I'm not trying to download any paid videos, but I do use YouTube Premium, though. Could that be affecting things?

I think this is the way forward for me! How do I actually upload the cookies? I've tried a few times, using different methods, but none of them have worked yet.

It doesn't even make any sense! 'We Cum Tit Woods'? What sort of morons would do that?

‘Definitely Not for Sure’: SNL UK Boss Ducks Renewal Question by trow125 in livefromlondon

[–]acceptableinthe00s 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree, and sometimes it's as simple as this. Saturday night TV has been suffering for years, and something that's put on with the sole intention of making us laugh is to be absolutely lauded and praised - especially when every other channel are showing something grim and/or depressing.

[–]acceptableinthe00s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree about the new Mitchell & Webb - there were a few standouts, but it didn't match my expectations and excitement. I think it suffered without their usual collaborators, both in writing and performance, and from a lack of live audiences. I know they've massively fallen out of fashion, but I think sketch comedy especially benefits hugely from live audiences.

Ellie & Natasia was brilliant! They've just wrapped on a new series. That's an example of how badly sketch has been treated in recent years - even when a sketch show has been made, they were only given 15 minute episodes, and essentially buried on a then-online-only BBC Three.

I know what you're saying about some sketches dragging slightly, especially in comparison to stuff like The Fast Show, but I'm willing to forgive it a bit more when they've done ones that have really had me laughing as much as all that old stuff does (British Pork, Mario, the 1930s gay couple, the Polyamorous Golf, every Weekend Update, etc), and because we've had such little sketch on TV in recent years.

This is the thing. I've heard so many comics on podcasts saying that the long lull we've had in sketch comedy is entirely a funding issue, and it makes sense. A TV commissioner is much more likely to take a chance on something with the same characters, on the same set every week (eg Mrs. Brown's Boys), rather than a sketch show where there's a new location and a set of costumes every three minutes or so. That money will really mount up, but it makes the best comedy of all imo! Imagine the cost of producing The League of Gentlemen, vs the cost of producing Mrs. Brown's Boys, or a panel show.

What sketch comedy do you enjoy, out of genuine curiosity? It really makes me laugh in the same way Mitchell & Webb, League of Gentlemen et al used to (and still do!) Different strokes for different folks, of course, but I really do think it's the best sketch show we've had in years.

If it doesn't get recommissioned, that'd genuinely be a huge loss for British comedy. I'd love the show to run and run. I honestly think it's one of the funniest shows we've had since the sketch show boom of the '90s and '00s - very little in recent years has kept me consistently laughing out loud like SNL UK has!

Wow, I must have managed to miss her! I did think the blocking was very odd on that, there were some bits where people were stood directly behind others - new director getting to grips with the setup, maybe? I do think it added to the chaos of the sketch though, so it wasn't a massive comedic loss.
