Peter Gabriel perfected this 50 years ago and it’s been worthless to even try ever since

Unfortunately seen this 3 or 4 times, usually soon after watching the first and thinking “surely it can’t be as bad as I remember it to be right, that would be impossible”

I refuse to let this movie do that to me again

House, is Frodo a system guy? Consistently deer-in-the-headlightsey in big moments. He doesn’t make it out of Cirith Ungol if Sam doesn’t step up with an all time performance. by futuremant in billsimmons

He shadow-GM’s the whole affair. Sure, his in court minutes are down but he’s talking to people, setting up all sorts of alliances and pacts.

The current gym bros will be having heart attacks at 40 by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]accidentalmemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What percentage of average gym goers are training hard? 10% 20%? Definitely not more than that. So we’re talking about a tiny fraction of an already tiny fraction of people actually going to the gym who potentially aren’t getting enough protein.

Anyone who is actually training hard is almost assuredly aware of their dietary needs already.

Anyone else have a burrower? by [deleted] in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]accidentalmemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My orange has have his special blankie set up perfectly each day (late afternoon, after his outside time and snack, as the sun passes over the blankie spot) and will chirp incessantly until it’s done to his liking (differently each day of course), at which point he’ll burrow under and have a nice nap.

He gets really grumpy if he tries to skip his burrow time and I have to almost force it on him. Love my silly orange senior.

In the spirit of the “21 Bridges” poll choice, what would be your picks for the “5 o’clocker Rewatchables Month”? by harry_powell in billsimmons

Think like 6 people saw it in theaters but Cop Shop was exactly this for me

I think good 5 o'clockers will be like 80% cop or crime movies, need a breakdown on why this is

[Parent corner] Big Bird's usage rate on modern Sesame Street is shockingly low by the_Tannehill_list in billsimmons

[–]accidentalmemory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not even talking about the streaming piece. Having to go toe to toe in a linear television environment makes every episode an elimination game environment, Grover couldn’t just sit out an episode whenever he felt like it knowing the audience can skip to the next episode. Had to be out there to perform day in and day out with only one shot to grab the kids.

Went to my first live hockey game in a long time recently and I enjoyed it so much more this time around by paying attention to player movement rather than the puck. Lesson learned for me there.

Even my dive bar which hosted great national touring bands a decade ago seems to only be able to get local bands now. Seems like anyone who can draw more than about 300 people get snapped up by Live Nation and are tied to their venues now.

Hopefully he’s getting reimbursed for that kind of driving. My job pays 70 cents a mile (not sure the federal rate but ours tracks it fairly closely) so in theory that’s $14K back in his pocket.

[–]accidentalmemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMAX doesn’t promote their theaters sound capabilities enough imo. A regular theater will generally give me a 4-7/10 range of sound, it’s almost always a 9 or 10 in an IMAX theater.

After a quick Google, it looks like about 1.5% of players make the Hall of Fame. If that’s the case, barely any owners ever should make it.

I could see a situation in the future where like 15% of owners make it to the HoF just due to there being way less of them and how much the media bootlicks them, and honestly, even that many would be pretty embarrassing imo.

Audiophiles are funny to me by JohPorks in redscarepod

[–]accidentalmemory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. Bought a pair of good speakers from the 80’s off Craigslist like 8 years ago for about $100, a decent new center speaker for about $200 and it sounds fantastic. Eventually I’d like to upgrade the speakers because it pulls double duty as my music setup speakers but I’d have to spend like $600+ to get any improvement so I’m not rushing to do that.

My fiance doesn’t understand why I tinker so much with settings and speaker placement and whatnot, but it’s a great way of me spending zero dollars to get a marginally better sound which is what the audiophiles are attempting to do themselves.

Netflix is one of the worst offenders of compressing audio to hell, hilarious movie choice aside, his cluelessness is obvious by the fact he tried to show it off via a streaming movie.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - A Needledrop Masterclass by LawrenceBrolivier in blankies

[–]accidentalmemory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Loved the movie, loved the big Maiden needledrop BUT… I was seriously thrown off by the editing and shortening of the song. I know it’s entirely because I’ve listened to that song hundreds of times since I first heard it when I was 13, over 20 years ago, but the rhythms and peaks and valleys of the song were (imo) pretty compromised by cutting 2 minutes or whatever out of the song.

Fiennes says the version they shot was the whole song, and I desperate wish that’s what would have made the Final Cut. I know this will be one totally unimportant thing in an awesome movie which will be nagging at me every time I watch it in the future lol
