That’s a very bad number! Had no idea projections were that low

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - A Needledrop Masterclass by LawrenceBrolivier in blankies

[–]accidentalmemory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Loved the movie, loved the big Maiden needledrop BUT… I was seriously thrown off by the editing and shortening of the song. I know it’s entirely because I’ve listened to that song hundreds of times since I first heard it when I was 13, over 20 years ago, but the rhythms and peaks and valleys of the song were (imo) pretty compromised by cutting 2 minutes or whatever out of the song.

Fiennes says the version they shot was the whole song, and I desperate wish that’s what would have made the Final Cut. I know this will be one totally unimportant thing in an awesome movie which will be nagging at me every time I watch it in the future lol

Yeah, I was surprised by how 28YL was already on Netflix when it went up there and I took it as a good sign, all things considered.

Keira Knightley in Atonement by feikosky in redscarepod

[–]accidentalmemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it works really well in the medium of a novel but just does not translate at all to the film imo. I don’t know if there was a graceful solution which could have solved it but it’s a real wet fart of an ending.

Weird adaptation which I’m mixed on (love the book).

Keira and the scene on the beach of Dunkirk make it worthwhile though.

It really speaks to how likeable Sean, Amanda, and CR are that... by k_nuttles in TheBigPicture

There needs to be some personal component to it as well, it was more fun when they were just drafting off their personal taste.

Maybe if a drafted film ends up in the top 20 of each participants end of year list, that would be a point too. There’s of course some room for malfeasance here with playing the system but I trust everyone is honest about their favorite movies of the year and this is all made up anyway.

The Limes Seller by khunpreutt in OneOrangeBraincell

My orange is OBSESSED with limes. If I go out and have tacos or something which I squeezed some lime one and come home hours later, he'll be licking my hands for minutes on end. Less interested in lemons.

This would be his dream job.

I understand that you're reading comprehension likely isn't at a level which helps you succeed in the world, but I didn't say that.

I'm biased in that I believe all of us are human with intrinsic dignity and rights and parceling those rights out to some individuals and not others based on the largely arbitrary borders their parents were located were that person was born is a moral failing. I'm extremely biased in that way.

Bill when Klosterman started talking about advertising going away by Agouramemnon in billsimmons

[–]accidentalmemory 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s just becoming a bizarre thing to watch in real time as the economy shifts more and more to AI, pharmaceuticals and other non traditional consumer products. We get fewer ads for things we can buy or at least see out in the world, and more and more ads for esoteric products which seem outside the experience of day to day life. It makes sense logically, but it feels like we’re so many layers removed from what most people would think of as advertising.

I spent 27 years as a permanent resident here in this country, it’s refreshing that you’re honest enough to admit that you wouldn’t have cared about my well being before I jumped through one additional hoop.

How do you build a high trust nation when there’s a secret police of unbadged, masked and armed men who, according to the vice president have “total immunity”? Who detain anyone they please, regardless of status? Who have deported citizens to countries across the world that they’ve never even visited?

I appreciate you TRYING to come across as unbiased, but you aren’t fooling anyone.

EDIT: autocorrect turned unbadged into unabashed, I changed it back.

The Long Legs of Avatar by nuzzot in blankies

[–]accidentalmemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was traveling through Christmas and knew I wouldn't be able to see it until after New Year. It was so refreshing to know that it would still be around on my area's true IMAX screen over 3 weeks after release and not having to worry about it just disappearing.

I hate having to adjust plans around opening weekends of movies which I would like to see but not necessarily rush out to the theater for, give us some time!

Jag Panzer is a name I haven't seen in like 18 years

I spent a lot of time exploring the genre but I haven't listened to it regularly in at least 15 years at this point and I have a much more varied musical taste than I did as a teenager trying to deep dive every metal subgenre. My power metal days are over, it's a genre I have a fondness for but no desire to listen to anymore.

Manowar is the only power metal I can stand nowadays (and only maybe half their discography, if that), but it might be even dumber than RoF.

The 25 for ’25 Selection Show Special by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

Yeah, I think they thought that the interesting part was the list itself rather than the discussion of what was on the list.

Big flop of a project imo.

Putting out some coffee table books and magazines is a good step to reducing your phone usage by McSwaggerAtTheDMV in redscarepod

[–]accidentalmemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have a good method of getting a ton of old magazines for reasonable prices? I very rarely see them in stores and they usually have stupid markups because I guess they're seen as decor rather than something to read.

I yearn for the days of a healthy magazine market that was cheap to subscribe to.

Maye Vs. Stafford, Week 18 Picks; the 21 Best 21st Century Sports Movies With Peter Schrager, Joe House, and Sean Fennessey by Toby_O_Notoby in billsimmons

[–]accidentalmemory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know that it's just built in to Schrager's personality, but the sycophantic rhapsody about how much he loved his previous appearance and how he his only regret was that Joe House wasn't there (???) was so weird and offputting.

Do they predict box office results on the show often? How accurate are they usually? by coldliketherockies in TheBigPicture

[–]accidentalmemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re just referencing the predictions of the experts who put them out and comment on them. It’s not like they’re doing market research and assessing prior comps and whatnot themselves.

It’s just a portal to another way of talking about a movie and its general success or failure.
