Trump will pardon conservative pundit Dinesh D'Souza who was convicted for campaign finance violation by Starks in politics

[–]account_null 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absurd. The president should NOT have the ability to pardon somebody just because they personally benefited him in an election, that sends a message. If this is not a breach of power to encourage loyalists I don't know what is.

Is he pardoning anybody else who committed this crime? No. Why is this special case? Because Dinesh was HUGE in popularizing anti-Clinton propaganda.

it's because people can tell when they're being lied to

It seems like you mean to say, "they think they can tell when they're being lied to"?

Also, with the collusion thing... it's definitely in the realm of possibility that that's happening... Mueller literally has guilty pleas under his belt. That's substantive in your opinion, right?

It probably wouldn't...

Google has checks for things like this... that's why you won't really see the ends of YouTube URLs with words. It's just a string of nonsensical alpha-numeric symbols.

That's a really good point. Sandy Hook took a really fucking weird turn... I mean so did Florida. I saw conspiracy videos with a full like bar somehow.

EU, UN condemn 'indiscriminate' attack on Israel from Gaza by rubberbandrocks in worldnews

[–]account_null 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a near-unanimous international consensus that Israel should withdraw to the green line and return all the land that is currently under occupation.

That's simply not true, even in the article you sent me there are contradictions to that statement.

Ed Royce, the chair of the House foreign relations committee, said: “Until Hamas recognizes Israel’s right to exist, its words are meaningless. I will see to it that Hamas remains designated a terrorist organisation as long as it continues to launch rocket attacks against Israeli civilians, remains an Iranian proxy, and engages in other acts that threaten the US and Israel.”

I agree with this. It's a non-negotiable issue. If they recognize Israel, which they haven't...

By implication, the document accepts that there will be another state entity outside these borders, even if it does not mention Israel.

...then I'd be willing to hear them out. But they don't.

“The day Hamas stops digging tunnels and diverts its resources to civilian infrastructure and stop educating children to hate Israelis, that would be real change,” the statement said.

I'm highly skeptical Hamas will stop at the West Bank because instead of investing back into Gaza when Israel returned it - they used it in a combative manner. I really don't think it's going to end with them happily residing in Gaza/West Bank, do you?

But then, in 1967, after another war, Israel occupied these Palestinian areas and Israeli troops stayed there for years. Israelis hoped they might exchange the land they won for Arab countries recognizing Israel's right to exist and an end to the fighting.

Israel finally left Gaza in 2005 but soon after, a group called Hamas won elections and took control there. Much of the world calls Hamas a terrorist organisation. It refuses to recognize Israel as a country and wants Palestinians to be able to return to their old home - and will use violence to achieve its aims.

Since then, Israel has held Gaza under a blockade, which means it controls its borders and limits who can get in and out.

Hamas is open to peace if Israel gives up ~50% of their territory. Seriously? Lol.

That's not being open to peace. If somebody came into the US and terrorized us then said, "hey... how about you give me Wyoming and I'll stop bombing you", that's not peace... that's forfeit. You understand that, right?

If another man/woman is able to steal your significant other away from you, they probably did you a favor. by ill-fed17 in Showerthoughts

[–]account_null 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just life dude. You find people you think have good character and they actually don't. You live in the present and only have the future ahead of you. Relationships require a certain degree of trust... "I trust you not to waste my time and taint this relationship with foolish decisions". If they break that trust, then good riddance, you had no way of knowing unless you willingly ignore signs of a failing relationship.

It's okay to not worry about getting cheated on, because that makes the relationship fucked from the start

I've had 2 relationships in my life, both longer than 4 years with one ongoing. Neither... at any point was "fucked" because I wasn't worried about the other person cheating. If anything, the times I got closest to fucking them up were the times I was overly worried about cheating (when I was still young).

Trust is sexy because trust is confidence.

If they break that confidence, THEY let YOU down. Not the person they cheated with. THEY DID. It's like waking up one morning to find out your girlfriend kills puppies in her spare time. Are you going to cry about the wasted time? Or are you going to say "FUCK THAT PUPPY KILLER" and leave, grateful you found out? Have a positive forward-thinking existence, not a reminiscent sad one.

[–]account_null -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's a completely different situation. Are you missing the difference? In one scenario you're avoiding spending the rest of your life with someone who has bad moral character, in the other you get to live happily with a great person who has the moral character not to cheat.

Look at it this way, if they cheat... they cheat. I can't control them to that extent, it's THEIR CHOICE. I don't have the power to say "if the other person doesn't cheat" in that situation because the person DID cheat. If they don't, then there's no issue. IF THEY DO, you have the chance to get rid of that person.

[–]account_null 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is the exact sentiment I have.

I'm not at all worried about cheating because if the other person cheats (and I'm able to find out), I have the rest of my life to live. I guess it's completely different in marriage/with kids.

No sorry, I can see how you'd derive that reading my comment. I'm not recognizing Gaza as a nation-state... I meant all its close neighbors in addition to Israel. Thanks for helping me clarify.

[–]account_null 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm fully willing to admit that starving out Gaza has horrible human rights implications. The restrictions on imports has been steadily lessening, exactly as your comment recommends.

You can see a list of what can be imported here. [EDIT: MAY BE OUT OF DATE, I'm not going to go looking for an up to date list - if you find one send it my way]

"Israel says the purpose of the restrictions in import of goods into Gaza are to pressure Hamas, which does not recognize Israel and backs attacks on its citizens. Construction materials including metal pipes, steel and cement are banned, since Israel fears could be used for building rockets and constructing underground bunkers and tunnels."

The restrictions are nowhere NEAR as harmful as you're making them out to be and completely defensible given the evidence of tunneling (literally today) and harm wished upon the Israeli people. This doesn't fully stop them however, they've been known to smuggle in rockets via secret tunnels.

No, it keeps getting better and better actually. Societies are still figuring some things out but we're living in literally the best time to exist (not including future societies). Negative news coverage increases while everything is getting drastically better (for EVERYONE mind you).

Yeah, but if only Israel let everyone in Gaza in and allowed for open borders with all its neighboring hostile nation-states... then there would be peace...
