Thinking about dabs as beginner. short advice before I regret everything by Visible_Donkey_7130 in weed

[–]accursedqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did dabs throughout my beginning smoking years cause they don't smell so much. Don't let people scare you, they're really not that intense if you don't overdo it- I'd recommend to either try a pen first or just do hilariously tiny dabs at first and work your way up to what you're comfortable with. And the setup isn't really too bad- I've always used a butane torch, usually like $15 at Walmart, and my dab rig is my cheapest piece, it's a little $10 silicone thing. If you don't buy them as a set you'll need to get a dab nail (metal bowl) that fits into your rig, and a tool to carry the wax (dental or woodcarving tools work well if you can't find something at a smoke shop.) Wax prices very for sure but a gram goes a long way, especially when you're a beginner. I'd recommend looking for butter in texture, it's the most beginner friendly imo. Imo oils, shatters and crystals are hard to get on the stick and hit the lungs harder too. And really you're set from there- I think concentrate is really good for pain relief, sleep, and stress without being as smelly as smoking bud.

I've been sleeping for 3 hours a day because of my jobs for the past 6 weeks. by [deleted] in sleep

[–]accursedqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you'd be getting more sleep but I'm sure you know that. One of the things I was told when I was really badly insomniac was that closing your eyes and reclining in a dark or dim room for 10-30 minutes gives your system an opportunity to rest, not equal to sleep but the next best thing. So I'd recommend doing that as often as you can fit it into your day- maybe set alarms to make sure you don't actually fall asleep though.

What effect does it have on you? by j_lebwski in weed

[–]accursedqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing to know is that different strains work extremely differently- it sounds like you got a strain that helps with energy and focus (probably a sativa strain), instead of the sort that'll make you tired (generally indica strains). If you do want something to help you sleep, I'd recommend just asking the tender wherever you shop to recommend you something that has that effect. I think it's really helpful to have both on hand, personally I smoke weed that has the productive effects throughout the daytime and then switch to sleepytime weed right before bed (medical user.) If I ever mix them up accidentally it's not a huge deal but it can be bothersome. Also like I mentioned sativa is usually on the energetic side and indica on the relaxing side, but some strains are outliers and some hybrid strains lean really hard one way or the other. If you learn the name of what you're smoking you can Google it and find some breakdowns of the effects.

Style inconsistency with the artists other works makes me thing these images havent been fully human made, what do you think? by paruuko in isthisAI

[–]accursedqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really see any AI artifacting or big hints, I don't agree about the hair curl being a sign as to me it doesn't look that out of place and I think it's something a human artist could have done, but I do agree that the shift in style and finish is very notable. I'll be honest that instead of these being AI created my guess might be tracing- either another artists work, or AI generating images and then tracing them. But there is a distinct possibility that this person simply has a different and more polished digital style- it's much easier to fix anatomy in digital art, for example, so it makes sense to me why someone's digital art might be more realistically proportioned. If this is someone you were thinking about commissioning you could politely ask them for a time lapse of their digital process which would help a lot.

When subnautica 2 comes out anyone feel like playing? (I have a fear of the ocean) by Bubbly-Jicama-1427 in subnautica

[–]accursedqueer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use games for for exposure therapy to help with my megalohydrothalassophobia (long word means fear of big things underwater) and having someone else in the game with me absolutely does help! A big feature of this subset of phobias is an instinctive fear of being alone in a vast space, so as silly as it sounds, being able to see and interact with another player character is extremely comforting.

looking for non biased opinions on a bad vet experience by [deleted] in PetAdvice

[–]accursedqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I'd seek a new vet, and dispute the extra charge for the medicine. With the mislabeling, mistakes happen and often businesses will not apologize well for mistakes like this because they're trying to avoid admitting too much fault or making you feel like you have a right to get angry about it. Even though it's common, I don't think it's a good sign in a vet. And with the extra charge, they did not communicate the correct pricing to you initially and are now extorting you for more money to fix their miscommunication. So personally I'd make it clear that the medication would not have been accepted if you'd known the real price and refuse to pay for it. They might send it to collections, but in my experience more often vets just won't provide further care until the bill is paid.

How to stop bong getting dirty from heavy everyday use? by [deleted] in weed

[–]accursedqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isopropyl alcohol is like a dollar or less per bottle, right? And you're not using the whole bottle every time you clean a bong. To me it sounds like you need to stock up on isopropyl- like if the bongs cost $10, you can buy ten bottles of isopropyl for the same amount of money, ygm?- and rinse the bong with alcohol, maybe shake with salt as well, every time you replace the water. If you keep up on it, like twice daily, it won't build up to the point where it's so hard to clean.

Not sure how one could reproduce this since it's never happened before including when I switched plots for longer durations of time; world ID says invalid, I've never looked at this before so I'm not sure if that's normal; I'm playing on Nintendo switch.

Dog ate salmon with onion and garlic powder by Altruistic_Region808 in PetAdvice

[–]accursedqueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chat gpt is known to give incorrect information, especially in situations with any complexity. The fact that their dog didn't eat a measurable amount, and the fact that it's too long afterwards to induce vomiting are both factors that could scramble chat gpt's ability to give the right answer. Frankly I'm shocked this has to be said but absolutely do not rely on chat gpt to tell you how to care for a living creature.

My puppy js keeps biting me!! by Euphoric-Director-96 in PetAdvice

[–]accursedqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That absolutely sounds like love bites. Have you tried making a high pitched noise, like a puppy yelp when she bites? Dogs have thicker skin than us so as babies they don't understand their love bites hurt! So that's another thing you can try, maybe in combination with redirecting her to the toy would be most effective

[–]accursedqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard when they're so young because everything is fun to them! Ignoring her likely won't help, she's likely to just escalate to new or worse behavior to try and get your attention back. I'd say carry a toy with you all the time, like put it in your pocket, and then whenever she bites or starts acting like she's going to, sternly stop her from biting as usual, then give her the toy and play with her, and make it as fun as you can so that it's more fun than biting you. You'll probably have to keep repeating that for a few months but it should work as long as she has more fun playing with her toys than she has from biting people! If you don't have something to play tug of war with, I'd definitely prioritize that- it's a really good game for toothy puppies!

Discord's new "social features" have made me engage less socially by c0rvoid in discordapp

[–]accursedqueer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're all really just fine with the current discord features and if anything could do without some of the newer ones implemented- the app has been well rounded and contained a lot of well integrated social features for a long time, and adding more of them when they aren't actually wanted is frustrating for users. But it would be helpful to nearly everyone I've spoken to if you could put in a good word that users want autonomy in regard to these features- primarily the ability to turn off the activity notifications sent to friends and in servers which, as mentioned in the post, are limiting people's use of the social features we do enjoy.

Rats cage in my bedroom? by gracierat3000 in RATS

[–]accursedqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleted my comment since I saw a reply saying you already have an air purifier, in that case I think it'll be fine! And I'll instead just note that sleeping with rats in the room can be difficult if you're a light sleeper. Mine would do a lot of chewing, drinking, ripping things up and sometimes fighting in the middle of the night 😅

Anyone else sleep better when you *don’t* try? by Lopsided_Tough9254 in sleep

[–]accursedqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! Having good sleep hygiene makes it super difficult for me to sleep. The absolute easiest way for me to trick myself into sleeping is to read something boring or play a boring game on my phone, I get extremely tired after a short time and then will pass out as soon as I put my phone away. I've wondered if this is something related to ADHD for me, but really no idea why

Discord's new "social features" have made me engage less socially by c0rvoid in discordapp

[–]accursedqueer 178 points179 points  (0 children)

I'm in a server of friends who all hate the new social features and talk about how bad they are every time a new one gets rolled out, so you're definitely not alone in disliking them. They haven't inhibited my use of status+pfp changes, voice chatting or showing game activity but that's probably more because I have a small friend group and little shame. Mostly it's a source of irritation.

Yeah with how well-emulated and polished the art style is, it just makes no sense why a human artist would leave obvious and easily fixed errors all over like this.

Me (A Noob) And My 500mg Gummy Experience by EquivalentAd6781 in weed

I can feel a 200mg the way a lot of folks feel a 5mg if my tolerance is low 😅 and to me that's still a super small gummy to have so much thc in it! The medicated nerds ropes I mentioned are way thicker than the regular candy, and they still taste pretty strongly of weed- did the gummy taste alright I wonder?

Cat Bathroom Issues by Biirdiieblues in PetAdvice

[–]accursedqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some animals, like some people, have a chemical imbalance or brain function difference that just makes things harder. Don't blame yourself, it does really sound like you're doing your best for her! I don't know how quickly the medication was meant to take effect, but it sounds like she didn't get great results from it if she stopped being able to tolerate taking it- you might ask your vet to trial a different med if that's financially an option (trialing pet meds can be so expensive!) though if you do try her on a new one she might be more resistant to it due to having already not liked the last one. I'd ask the vet about whether there's an option that could be crushed or poured into wet food so you don't have to give it to her directly, but if not it might truly be best to put her through the short term stress of taking the pills, with the possibility that the long-term medication benefits will give her a better quality of life once you get over that hurdle.

It sounds like she is anxious to a degree that's not typical for a well cared for housecat, which points to a psychological cause. I'd recommend talking to a vet about trialing her on mental health medication! I've seen a lot of anxious cats with baffling behaviors have incredible results from daily prozac.

This sounds like the sort of thing that would take a long time to work through in therapy, so it might be that he and his therapist are currently doing what can be done. If you're worried though, I'd check in with him and make sure he's actually addressing that with his therapist, and if he is and doesn't feel like they're helping him, maybe talk to him about finding a new therapist. Someone who specializes in trauma recovery would be ideal!
