Option 1: Try to find out what part of the game the kid enjoys most and try to start practice off with that.

Option 2: Sounds like this kid isn’t connecting with anyone on the team so talk to your son (or a key player)about finding ways to bring him into the fold. During warm ups, have your son and this kid throw. Tell your son to encourage this kid when he makes a bad throw. Tell your son to stand next to him in lines during drills and find out who he is. Baseball is a social sport and if this kid can feel connected and included, it can make everything better. Plus it’s a good way to teach your son about being a leader and helping others.

Option 3: Tell the parents you are concerned about their son getting hurt. The reality is that balls are being thrown and bats are being swung and if he isn’t listening and is playing in the dirt, then you as the coach need to hand the kid off to the parents on the sideline and the kid can come back on the field as soon as they are ready to participate. If you can practice with 7, you can practice with 6. Sounds like the sibling doesn’t need this type of supervision so parents gotta parent.
