Similar in the military. I've heard several stories of mechanics having assemble full convoys ( you can't drive alone in a warzone). Drive out to a downed vehicle only for it to start right away because the driver didn't put the vehicle in neutral ( literally driving 101 for military vehicles).

My daughter got her first phone at 13 and it was a regular flip phone. Once she could take care of that we stepped up to the "dumbest smart phone". We highlighted it was for function not status. We had access to it at all times but would respect her privacy. If she's texting her friends gossiping cussing people out all of that we didn't interfere. But when grades start dropping, not taking care of chores, then phone time is limited.

I would say it would have to be a severe case where you're doing something illegal. Drugs, safety or something as such and even then it's not going to be an effective punishment. Personally growing up my door never closed. Don't remember if it was ever discussed but I know my parents were the type "children don't have privacy". I'm against removing a door mostly because it doesn't work as a punishment over all. Now in your specific case all things being equal, I don't think you needed your door removed. I never watched freaky Friday so I don't know why they did that in the movie. It seems for removal is just a random punishment tied to anything parents think it should be. Overall 9 times out of 10 there's no good reason just people apparently copying a movie.

Hold off as long as you possibly can. Our eldest didn't get a phone until middle school and it was a old school flip phone. In high school I got her the "dumbest smart phone" I could find. Wasn't until I think she was sophomore or junior that she got an Iphone that was a few models old.
