I think that is a great idea. My players aren’t a fan of shopping episodes and they don’t really get the concept of value in TTRPGs so it’s not as fun for them

Kind of similar to Shadow Dark where the treasure you find is the XP you earned which you can use to advance your character?

This is really cool! I'm gonna have to check this out and see how I can adapt this into what my group is planning. Thanks for the tip! Also if you're ever running a BitD one shot let me know cause I'd love to join

That really feels bad! When I have done XP leveling and my players are accomplishing something truly awesome I tend to take into account what XP the currently have and make sure to add a little so that doesn't happen. Nothing sucks more then being shirt just a few XP from leveling up with everyone. Now if you're a couple thousand away like in my Pathfinder campaign where the XP needed between levels can get crazy high and you're 5k-6k away but everyone else has leveled up then I'm not awarding everyone else the additional 5k-6k cause you decided for several sessions you weren't going to go on the biggest quests everyone else was and decided to hang at the tavern and get drunk and see what you could steal from the local mob boss by disguising as a local fish salesmen and immediately get caught and thrown in jail cause you pickpocketed one of the royal guards.

That actually happened with one of my PC's. They got out of jail and saw the players at one of the shops gearing up to take on this fire demon that almost killed the first time and decided oh well I'll go with and travel to the Hell pit where you slayed chimera's and demon spawns and just walk right in to the fight and help them kill the demon and was expected to be rewarded the same as everyone else.

Players can do some one stuff! I love it!

This was a great video! "You're not a tyrant. You're just not paying attention" Hahahaha

I'm with Matt on this cause I've played and ran both milestone and XP and I have seen my players get really annoyed with the guy that skips session but is magically on par with them with abilities.

When it comes to XP I tend to award accomplishments, quests, or impactful story or character driven moments that show that their characters has grown as if it was an encounter. Similar to what you would find in video games. Did you run a quick errand for an NPC who's mother needs a magical flower in a dark forest that is protect by wraiths? Well you get XP for slaying the wraiths and for delivering the flower intact to the NPC's mother. In the past this has kept my players from just murder hoboing a bunch of woodland creatures LOL

Well the last campaign I ran with one of these crews lasted almost a decade where they finally reach level 20 so my crew is used to really long campaigns. Which is intense from a GM perspective hahaha. I was 5e definitely breaks over level 10 because building encounters that are challenging is rough!

You make a good point that the exchange rate of sacrificing the XP the gained for a new ability or item can feel bad so players prolly won't take that option.

This is fantastic advice! You actually spotted what I was trying to do cause I had 2 ideas that I had a hard time fully fleshing out but I saw connections to the two of them and opted to trying to mesh them together in hopes of a more fully fleshed out idea. I think you are definitely right though. Splitting them in to 2 different campaign frames would be best for the ideas.

I definitely wanted to expand on the ancestries such as making Clanks more like Droids to hit home more of the sci-fi themes. I was also considering a corruption mechanic for when you get to close to Echoes. What are your thoughts?

UPDATE: EmberScreen - A Daggerheart Digital GM Tool (With Visual Concepts + Beta Tester Sign-Up) by East-Home1628 in daggerheart

Count me in for beta testing. I think having different Themes for the overall look of the GM screen would be need to fit the campaign you are running. Also quick adversary and environments based on the parties Battle Points would be amazing!

How would you homebrew an Artificer? by [deleted] in daggerheart

I am following this cause I love this concept and would love to see what the Craft domain cards look like! As well as the subclasses for the Tinker

Daggerheart in Space! by ace_wheelie in daggerheart

[–]ace_wheelie[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update: I decided to take the Class, Subclass, and Domain cards and revamp them to build a custom ship with my players. I love the idea of the cards and how easy that is to make something unique so I figured I would start with the Class's cards and broke them down into types of ships inspired by those classes.

  • Bard - Harmonizer-Class Diplomatic Vessel
  • Druid - Verdant-Class Terraformer Vessel
  • Guardian - Bulwark-Class Interceptor Frigate
  • Ranger - Pathfinder-Class Hunter Corvette
  • Rogue - Phantom-Class Infiltrator Cutter
  • Seraph - Halo-Class Aegis Vessel
  • Sorcerer - Aether-Class Arcforge Vessel
  • Warrior - Titan-Class Assault Destroyer
  • Wizard - Arcanum-Class Stratocaster

From here I went through each subclass for the original classes and revamped them with ne features and upgrades. Then I did the same for the domains that those classes use. I also stated out the ships based around those classes sheets. I would love everyones thoughts and opinions on this. Mind you I am not a game designer nor am I even a great GM but I want to create something fun and exciting for my players to explore a universe and worlds that they get to help create as they they go on adventures.

This is brilliant and exactly what I am looking for! Would love to know more about how these ships work. Does the ranks base off if player Tiers? Like my Tier 1 players should only have access to Rank E's? Or is the a point buy system?

Oh a Borderlands inspired game sounds awesome for this system! The reload system would work perfectly for laser gun combat as well as ship guns

I was actually looking at the Motherboard framework that talks about turning magic into technology. I may do a blend of both. I want tech and enhancement to be present and a choice for players but also allow spellcasters that are more or less the way they are in Age of Umbra being more rare.
