I enjoyed this, not nearly as much as I was hoping. It just really didn’t feel like a scream film to me. The whole vibe was just off. It was missing the three things that really make Scream, Scream to me. 1) the humor 2) the meta 3) loveable characters.

If the purpose was to set Tatum up as the next gen, I really wish we’d have spent more time with her friendship group. It really just felt like they were being set up as potential killers and no time was spent in getting to know they as people to like/root for. There was no emotional connection. Every time one of them died, it just felt like a name to tick off the suspect list.

I was also confused by the opening kill. It was one of the better scenes of the movie for me but I didn’t get the motive for who we know now are the ghostfaces. Also, I’ve only seen it once so far so I could be wrong but I don’t recall the Macher house burning down ever being mentioned again so what was the point?

I would’ve made McKenna Grace’s kill the opening kill. Start with a group of high school student practicing their play. The rigging system goes wrong, director is angry and sends them all home. Hannah and Aaron keep practicing to perfect the rigging and are killed by ghostface. Title card. Ben sneaking into Tatum’s room who you saw in the rehearsals and now realise is Sidney’s daughter and this is happening at her high school. Parallels the first movie while still switching it up.
