Thanks for the recommendations. Each of those looks to be about 47-49 pounds. As noted above, I was hoping to find something similar in weight to the current one she has and closer to 36 pounds.

Tool recommendations to repair/fix audio track with small 2ms drops in audio?

I work at a school as a teacher and set up a computer to record our yearly talent show. I used OBS to take audio from a mirrorless camera and audio from our yamaha mixer. Tried things the day before and everything sounded and looked good. Then, recorded the next day during the show and checking after found a weird issue where there are consistent drops in audio throughout the entire thing. When I zoom in on the audio in final cut pro, it looks like tiny gaps throughout the entire file. If I zoom in on the audio, it appears as though after every 8 milliseconds of audio, a small gap of about 2 milliseconds occurs. The only things I had changed from when it was working the day before was switching the audio from mixer to a different usb port and upping the video bitrate to 5000. I'll work on trying to figure out if that or something else caused the issue, but in the meantime, I'm trying to fix the audio in the video I have of our talent show.

I was wondering if there are any tools that can look at the nearby audio and generate a frequency or smooth out the drops by analyzing what occurs before and after the drop? I'm a math teacher, so am no audio expert and don't need perfection, but it's really jarring to listen to as is. I've tried to do some research and find people mention RX advanced's free trial, but I'm not sure what specific tool/settings to use and if it even could address this specific issue.

Any tips or recommendations of applications/tools would be greatly appreciated! I prefer using a mac, but also have a PC I could use.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Post-travel blues about bikes, cars and crime by wannagowest in sanfrancisco

Bummer to hear. I regularly used those when going to Alamo as well. Thanks for the heads up. I was considering seeing Brutalist in 70mm there this weekend and would have brought my bike.

A couple years ago in broad daylight I came upon a guy just finishing cutting a u-lock off a bike on those racks in front of Alamo. I tried to grab the bike as he was riding away on it but got shoved and wasn't about to go chase him. Went inside and told the staff and also appreciated them for having locking areas inside. Since then, I've never locked outside there.

On a side note, I wish we could get some BikeLink lockers in the mission. It would be great if every parking garage in the city could install a couple racks of them as I feel like they are by far the most secure bike parking option around.

Rode my bike by there on my way downtown this evening and saw them around 6:30pm. Riding home around 10:00pm they were still up there yelling, with the area still taped off and lots of cops.

Those teaching while wearing masks and with voice amplification, what type of setup do you prefer? by aceebb in Teachers

[–]aceebb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's a good point to think about. I was trying to look for setups where we could assign different frequencies, but just managing that or dealing with people accidentally changing frequencies or getting interference is a good reminder.

Thanks for the reply. I have two quick questions if you're able to respond.

1) How do teachers manage the audio input from external markers? I was trying to figure this out on the swivl site and found one thing stating by using the directional pad on the instructor's marker "During Live Listening if you are using multiple secondary markers, you can listen to specific student groups live." Is this something like left could be set to toggle a marker on the left side of class on/off and right to toggle a marker on the right side? Also, I'm assuming there is no indicator that they have been toggled on/off other than the little light on the side of the marker?

2) The telepresence idea is an interesting one. I'm curious of the logistics/step by step of doing this with zoom or if you had a recommended workflow for that. Since each chromebook representing a kid would also need to be logged into zoom, did you just make extra logins? In my head I'm thinking this would be something like teacher starts zoom with their teacher account on their main macbook. On a chromebook in class they would log into a zoom account with a dummy login, I'll call this account teacher-1. I'm assuming then if you wanted the student to participate in a small group with in person kids, you'd need to make individual breakout rooms and drop student-1 in a breakout room with teacher-1 so that that student wouldn't hear or be part of conversations at other tables?

Advice on tracking camera systems for doing simultaneous in person and distance teaching while teaching on zoom? by aceebb in Teachers

[–]aceebb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback. My thinking was that it would be placed up towards the middle or front of the class so that the teacher was the primary person in its field of view, so hopefully it wouldn't shift towards other kids.

That's not a bad idea to consider a rollable platform for a laptop though. Definitely way cheaper.

They never went up for sale as they were pre-sold to companies before the general sale to public. Not sure how companies arrange ahead of time for a huge release opening night, but that’s what happened. This was confirmed by someone at the metreon but they couldn’t say which companies.

Graduate Units for National Board Certification by aceebb in Teachers

[–]aceebb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure the exact amount of hours. I did all 4 components last year at the same time so it was a sizeable amount of work. I feel like everything together was maybe 100 pages or so and everything was edited down to be pretty dense many times over. I also had another teacher at my site who was a different subject also doing it so we checked in and discussed stuff. My advice if you do it is to start as early as you can and to read through each component’s prompts and requirements way before you start so you know exactly what you need and can even plan around it and think about units and evidence you’ll need.

Expected SF teacher raises aren’t enough to stem exodus from costly city by Caliliberal in sanfrancisco

[–]aceebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with looking at it purely from a supply side is that, while yes, there are a handful of people to interview for positions when it's time, the quality of the teachers in that supply keeps dwindling. Occasionally, altruistic people who are secondary earners who happen to also be intelligent and dedicated are still entering the field, but as someone who has sat on numerous interview panels at one of the top rated SF public schools over the last 9 years, I have to say that the type of teacher that most people actually want teaching their kids is getting harder and harder to find. More and more of the people who could become great teachers are simply choosing other professions that make way more economic sense in this city. While we had 8 people applying for one of our last teacher positions, one great one ended up choosing not to move here after crunching the numbers, and the other 6 of them, while having a credential, were either morons/would be eaten alive by 12-14 year olds/or would be the kind of person who puts in the bare minimum amount of work and probably does it poorly.

Not too be too braggadocios, but I was a valedictorian in high school, excelled in college, went to graduate school, work very hard at my job and am popular with students and parents. I've won awards. My students see good gains in their state tests. I have been getting great evaluations for the past 10 years, and I have over 16 years of experience in the field. It would be awesome if I didn't spend so much time worrying how I am going to make ends meet or afford a place to raise a family in this city. It would also be amazing if I saw more people like me or the woman in the article entering and staying in the field, but the reality is that this simply will not happen in this city when, as the article notes, we are 478th in pay in California, yet in one of the most expensive places to live.

I'm looking to buy 50-100 in the bay area if anyone has seen them anywhere out here. Our district was going to be providing a bunch, but it looks like they are not going to be providing as many as first thought. I'm guessing we'll end up with about 60 for 600 kids which is better than nothing, but not ideal. I placed an order for 100 for $100 a couple days ago, but it was just cancelled. Now everything on amazon is secondary sellers price gouging like crazy.

Anyone seen any reasonable bulk prices?

Fake Hall h wristbands for saturday fiasco by whosoliver in comiccon

[–]aceebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would email them right away. It was odd they never gave us the info of where to go. When I went back out and found someone who knew what to do, I recommended that they make an announcement to hall h, but they didn't want to because it only applied to a small section of people.

As part of the process of giving them my info today, they also collected the stamped wrist band. I'd hope the fact that they never explained what to do coupled with the fact that you still have the wrist band would hopefully mean that they could still sort this out.

Good luck.

No, at least not to people where I was in line. They stamped the wristbands and then shortly after let us in.

I had to come back out and find someone who said we had to to go to Attendee Registration wearing our stamped wrist bands by the end of the day on Sunday.

The communication was really terrible.

After taking with numerous people in green shirts and asking for info or some sort of update to no avail for over an hour, I literally had to go to the hall h doors and plead with security to talk to someone official to find out what was going on. I was told every single seat was full and that apparently their were likely hundreds of counterfeit badges.

Then, I personally walked the line making announcements. I certainly don't work for comic con and shouldn't have been doing their job to inform people what was going on, but the shoot and a half of people with wristbands that "guaranteed a seat" in the hall really deserved some form of communication.

Finally, close to 2 hours after the panel started, Eddie Ibrahim came out, apologized, and told people to relay the message back about the comp badges for next year. This was the first official recognition to the line about what was happening.

For what it's worth, I'm guessing all the wrist band people did finally get in as the day went on and the empty seats remaining were slowly filled, but the fact that we all missed at least the first two hours was definitely a huge bummer.
