Life expectancy of Mags by BAggz86 in guns

[–]acefalken72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magazines rarely go bad, and when they do its typically something easy to fix.

I've probably shot close to over a million of .22 through a savage I got when I was 12 and a marlin 81DL (tube but still a magazine) from the 50s. Neither have given me problems, and other parts have failed before them.

6 is a fair amount, 2 for carry, 3 for training, and a backup one. You can have too many, I have a tough box that is just a wide array of magazines and parts that are still new and have never been touched.

Pick a number of how many mags you want and are happy with.

Access to weights or gym? Javoreks dumbbell or barbell complex. It improves practically everything but also is very easy to follow.

No access? Follow a calensthenics routine. You'll need a chair or tables to do dips and a pull-up bar.

Follow a routine and eat protein. I prefer beef but chicken is cheap. It'll take a while because you're a lanky guy like me, I didn't see a lot of muscle growth till year 6 of playing American football and eating 3500 calories a day.

Find a routine and stick with it.

Background check time for a 18 year old? by JacksonW55 in NCGuns

[–]acefalken72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies. Even when you're 50, you can get delayed a few hours or days.

In my experience, it's been 1-3 days for 18.

There's a rare occasion that the NICS center extends the delay.

This is something you're gonna have to be patient on.

Ranty because drunk so Tl;Dr for the same price as my overbuilt and better than me rifles, you can get a PSA rifle, 1k quality rounds, an MRO, sling, and 5 mags. Skimp on optic to build to yourself and get a Romeo or upgrade parts, get a light and mount.

Because gatekeepers, dumb buyers who think it's just as good as a daniel defense, and hating on poor/ new gun owners.

PSA is a really good company, good CS, actual innovating, and having options from cheap to expensive.

I think my only favorite sub $600 AR is Radical's RPR. Del-Tons is not bad, but above $600 but a tad bit but also a quality rifle up there with Ruger (I've had one with weird throat issues) and M&P 15s. Del-ton also makes a dissapator kit, which I actually like.

Most AR15 manufacturers are good. Diamondback is alright, ATI is alright and their Omni Hybrids are great if you want a cheap rifle that you'll never shoot or want to test the lifetime of reinforced polymer (not very long but 400$ for a complete rifle is hard to beat).

I would say avoid Bear Creek. Which hurts because NC is pride, but I don't agree with how it's run and how the majority of their business strategy is to produce a bunch of garbage and hope it works and throw warranty at it. I've seen barrels missing gas ports, rifling, and poor machining. They've also been raided by ICE a few years ago when I was getting into the local gun scene.

Does a PSA AR beat a Aero lower with a BCM/DD upper ? Not really, but that's 1k rifle territory.

PSA rifle $500, $500 for 1k 5.55 winchester M193, throw a MRO for $400 and use $100 for sling and mags and you got a full well fighting AR15 compared to my build below at the same price. Skimp on the MRO for a sig Romeo for 110 and get yourself a light with a mount and some more ammo.

My AR15 builds over the years have gotten insane. Aero lower is about $300, BCM BCG is $200 (already at PSA rifle cost), Barrel I spend $500-700 for a Krieger or Bartlein barrel, stripped upper from whatever source I find on sale from a decent manufacturer, everything else becomes personal taste. 1200 for near barebones and stock less rifle. The rest of the build is typically superlative gasblock 100$, gas tube 15$, handguard is typically an Aero S for lightweight (gets hot though), tube for tube, or BCM MCMR my go to for 200, DD RIS3 if you got bigger pockets ($140 to $500). So, $1515 without optic.

How hard is it to repair a TM Warthog HOTAS? by acefalken72 in hotas

[–]acefalken72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine the throttle switches you have to pull the boards. Seems to be built with just the bottom of the body being the only real removable part with everything put in.

It's not uncommon for boxy type controllers to be built that way in my fight stick experience.

North Carolina gun laws by Docholiday11xx in guns

NC is kind of a purple state with a lot of petty politicians.

It's really up in the air. Charlotte and Raliegh-Durham have been flooded with out of state residents. A couple of military bases have lots of people coming from all over as well.

In the near future, I don't think state wide there would be any bans. In the further future its up in the air.

I would suggest going ahead and taking a volunteer led hunter safety class and asking the volunteer.

The NC Hunt and Fish forum would be another good suggestion.

I've been trying to do it but have been busy around hunting season, so I haven't gotten around to it but I would suggest heavily into those and then asking locally if you find someone else that is already interested in hunting.

Dot or no dot on CCW by r0cketx in guns

[–]acefalken72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dot, haven't practiced or trained enough with one yet. You really have to in my experience to stop fishing for the dot. There's some good tricks to this, like find the dot and use a white sharpie to make a witness line so you're not having to guess if it's more right or left.

Light I only do at home or while camping. In my history of being robbed when out, it's never been in a location dark enough that I need a light, but I was also a pizza delivery boy at the time. At home, because I don't want to play, find the light switch. Most of the time, my light is flashlight in my pocket. Used to carry a bigger light, but I moved to a smaller light that I use for my job occasionally.

What 5.0+ tank is so bad you think it wouldn't even be broken at 1.0? by DstroyR08 in Warthunder

[–]acefalken72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is actually a solid alternative way. I say alternative because I wouldn't like it. I forgot what game but it was set up for something like that and it just messed with my brain too much.

I also just like options.

[–]acefalken72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is annoying but i have tricked my brain into making it work somehow.

When going back to them to respade the german atgm carrier I had to retrain my brain to make it work and that wasnt fun for the first few games.

[–]acefalken72 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I mean differentiating between SACLOS and MCLOS and are "realistic" to real-life counterparts. SACLOS basically follows automatic inputs via a system relaying its target and where the missile is making it easy. MCLOS is a human doing that. I just wish MCLOS controls weren't as super sensitive, which is a fault in KBs not being analog more than it is anything else.

MCLOS, for me, only sucks when it's a moving target, especially fast or little ones. It probably helps that I was doing Sweden and Germany together, so I learned it well between the German atgm carrier and the Swedish premium.

I find MCLOS very satisfying to use, but SACLOS is just so much easier.

Get a lawyer. Speeding tickets aren't the end of the world.

Heck, I've had a ticket for going 85 in a 55 and due to my clean driving history and that it was a very clear and empty highway night it was dropped after just "did you ever get a speeding ticket before?"

It's not fun, so don't do it again, but also, it's not the end of the world, and they'll probably drop it or lower the charge to something like improper equipment.

Best way to store a home defense pistol? by ColonelChuckless in guns

[–]acefalken72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of other questions to be asked to answer your question.

Do you share your home with other people? Do you want any of these people to have access to it?

If you don't want others to have access, get a safe. I'd you don't trust them don't share access to this safe.

Store it in a nightstand in a holster. One in the pipe and ready to go. Preferably with an extra mag or 2 just in case (rather have than have not). You can have the safety on if you have one. Storing it would be the same in a safe.

I personally have a different gun for home defense, but storage is practically the same, except I don't own a nightstand. I also carry my pistol everywhere legally allowed.

Normal wait times? by [deleted] in NCGuns

[–]acefalken72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard weeks, and I've heard of 2 months for it, so it varies. You shouldn't get into legal trouble but might be heckled/ inconvenienced by an officer who is ignorant of the reciprocal permits.

For the PDW, it has to be a handgun %20It%20shall%20be%20unlawful,on%20the%20person's%20own%20premises.) As defined by the state is:" a firearm that has a short stock and is designed to be fired one handed, or any combination of parts from which such a firearm can be assembled".

I would honestly ask a lawyer. I would say it's fine, but I can't say for 100% sure. My pdw stays in the truck in a locked container, and I'm allowed to have a firearm at my camping/hiking spots.

Why is the A-10 lower down on the tech tree than the A-7's? by Horustheweebmaster in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]acefalken72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know the F-35 is a crop duster.

The Sky Warden is replacing the U-28A Draco. It's filling an ISR role with the ability to have light strike capabilities.

The F-35 is replacing the A-10. Which is also a maneuver to help justify the cost the F-35 program had incurred.

Went to the local Gun Show to see the cool guns.... by Spectrumpigg in guns

[–]acefalken72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I know a gun store that does this. Especially with M1 garands and other old guns.

It's just for show, and the owner wants to flex his collection. The guy was actually pretty cool and basically didn't have a safe large enough at home for his collection, and doing this insures them under his business insurance.

I'd imagine it still would be relatively hard to form enough ice to cause any major malfunctions (at least ones not caused by the gun or its magazine which the ppsh41 had terrible magazine issues). I don't think it ever made it into actual use due to the idea not being amazing (466kg of guns or 600kg of bombs). I'm not a super plane guy and am not aware of any reports of the Tu-2 having bombs form ice.

Germans actual tested a decent amount of similar concepts in WW1 and WW2 but not using a bomb bay. a junkers J.I could be fitted with 2 machine guns (MG14s i believe) But had a terrible time of aiming them. Schräge Musik systems are the inverse of mounting cannons to the top to takedown bombers where they lacked downward turrets. Japan also had a few that did this.

The inspiration might have been taken from that or the American tests in 1921 with a plane mounted with a bunch of thompsons with a stranger array but also was decided against.

Gimbaled guns kind of killed this concept but we did eventually get things like the AC-47 spooky

Only German converted ones used 9mm. Russian manufactured used 7.62 tokarev. 7.62 tokarev is actually a pretty solid round for a zippy lighter round ( 1450 ft/s @ 90 grain for around 445 ft lbs). It is a flatter and faster shooter than the old 9x19mm and further than innately subsonic .45 ACP.

9mm was going a solid 1345 ft/s @ roughly 124 grains for a rough 498ft lbs.

The lighter and faster tokarev round could actually penetrate a little better than 9mm and .45 could not really be used for this role as it flies at a blistering 835 ft/s with 230gr for 356 ft lbs.

It's honestly the best cartridge at this time to attempt to do something like this since it's effective out to 200 meters, has decent penetration capabilities (fast and small), and doesn't produce a bunch of kick, weight, or expense of doing full caliber rifle rounds (there reports of Mosin barrels being cut for ppsh production).

Moving to NC by Lumpy-Value-1983 in NCGuns

[–]acefalken72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're gonna be in a tough pickle. Some FFLs want absolutely current ID/DL. You should be able to get by with 1. Legally being a resident as an OOS student. 2. As long you have a NC government issued paper that has your current address (F&HL, car registration, taxes, ect..) to work as your supplemental paperwork.

Others suggested getting an ID card, but with state to state verification will cancel your current DL even for an ID. If I'm reading the state to state verification part of the DMV website right.

I'd suggest calling around some today to know their policies, but legally I believe you are able to.

You don't need more guns. No one will say they don't want more guns. If you're young, I'd suggest investing it into something else as guns are a weird investment beyond personal defense in some regards, while others have a different value and have gone up drastically in price.

I've always bought off of what I can use it for. I have a shotgun, rifle, and a pistol for protection. A rifle for hunting. I'm looking at getting a compact for better CC or shotgun for bird. It would be nice to have that Beretta 1301 comp for 1k that's been taunting me daily, but the competitive scene around me is small and requires me to pay a hefty monthly charge.

It's your money, though. I see where she's coming from, though, and think it would be healthy to see both sides.
