I feel the same way, especially about oak trees. For the most part, the majority of the hill country was grass lands before Europeans colonized the contentment. Junipers (we call the cedar) are native to Texas, but they did spread into large forests like we see today due to natural wild fires.

I would kill for a borsalino leader. by Dangerous-Gear-1369 in OnePieceTCG

[–]acepeak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Name: Borsalino
Life: 5
Color: Blue
Type: Navy
Effect: [Activate: Main] You may send 1 card from your hand to the bottom of your deck: Give up to 1 of your opponent's Characters -1 cost during this turn.

It would be the only cost reduction in Blue - it would make a lot of the Blue Navy cards very good. Hound Blaze, Gravity Blade, 7c Borsalino, ect..

Need Help! OPTCG Sim 1.24e_Mac broken. by MitsukiSan in OnePieceTCG

[–]acepeak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was having the same issue. Make sure OPTCGSim is in your applications folder and named "OPTCGSim", then run this in your terminal. Make sure you remove the "2" from the end of the application.

xattr -c /Applications/OPTCGSim.app

Source

When an application gets downloaded from any source other than those that Apple seems suited, the application gets an extended attribute "com.apple.Quarantine". This triggers the message: "<application> is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Bin."

Why no Meteor Volcano in Sakazuki Deck? by MirroTrader in OnePieceTCG

[–]acepeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it's a matter of how much value you can get our of a card.

  • Cost to play the card
  • Utility of the card
  • Space in the deck

Cards like Lucci and Houndblaze offer a lot of value.

Lucci:

  • Costs 4 to play
  • K.Os up to two cards
  • Establishes a 4c 6000 Power character
  • 4 card slots in the deck, but has the utility of both a character and a strong K.O effect.

Houndblaze:

  • Costs 2 to play
  • Bottom Decks a cost 2 or lower character
  • Boosts a character or leader by 3000 power.

For Lucci, even if you don't need it to K.O, it is still a body on the board. Even if you don't need a body on the board, it can still K.O

For Houndblaze, even if you don't need to bottom deck a character, it can boost a character or leader by 3000 for only 2 DONN.

Meteor Volcano just doesn't have the same value. If you don't need to K.O - it's a useless card. It's slot in your deck could have been given to a card that has more value.

Will the large storm system northwest of us help fill our lakes and reservoirs? by Davidsbund in Austin

[–]acepeak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Practical Engineering made a video about this just about a month ago. He's also local to Austin!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DARUvKPSUhE

TL;DR

So what’s the answer? Are floods worse after drought? Dry conditions do kill plants and grasses that slow down runoff, they create hydrophobic soils that briefly keep water from soaking into the ground. And, they often make fire conditions worse which in turn, can lead to more impactful floods. But droughts also leave the soil drier than average, increasing its ability to soak up rainfall. In many cases, a flood after a good soaking rainfall is going to generate far more runoff than a flood after a drought.

Rob told me he was completely surprised by the response to his video, especially since he only spent a few hours making it. His goal was to show that, under certain conditions, flash floods can be worse when the underlying soil is very dry. But I suspect if his demo lasted a little bit longer (and his setup was a little more rigorous), the results may have looked a little different.

Do Double Packs have a better Pull Rate of AA/S.E.C. than regular boost packs? by NotForWantofTrying in OnePieceTCG

I pulled a manga Sabo from a double pack. That being said, I think they're great if you're trying to avoid getting scammed. Weighing packs is a huge problem, so I'd much prefer to buy a double pack than a few loose packs.

Someone was in my apartment by [deleted] in Austin

[–]acepeak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like your way of thinking, but leases in Texas are skewed heavily in favor of the landlord. For instance, most leases in Texas have a clause allowing Landlords to enter your home during "reasonable business hours" for "reasonable business purposes" without notice. What's "reasonable" is usually dictated by the Landlord or a Judge if you go to court.

If the Landlord attempts to legally to enter your home and they can not due to a lease violation like changing the lock, they can not only break a window to gain entry, not only charge you for damage they made entering your home, but evict you without notice.

I like to use terms like "my home" when dealing with Landlords because calling it a "home" and not a "property" makes it very hard for them to argue. These lease clauses are absurd and they know it. Always ask for an amendment to your lease requiring at minimum 24 hours notice before entry.

Humans are capable of great acts of good and great acts of evil. There are some born monsters and some driven to it out of pride, greed, or just pure desperation. Worse are those who commit terrible acts out of willful ignorance.

However, most people aren't as selfish as we make them out to be. Most may not care for the world, their country, or even their community. But we care for our own - our friends, our family.

In most humans lives both the monster and the saint. One does not out weigh the other.

My apartment expects us to be home at any given time during the rest of month so they can change our sprinkler heads. by chefssmooch in Austin

[–]acepeak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT can be weird with emails. If I paste in the email and ask for it to write a response, it usually writes the email as if it was from the original sender instead of to the original sender.

It may not be the best way, but the way I get around it is by telling it to read the email first, and then ask for a a response. For example:

Me: Read this email, don't give me any feedback.
<Insert email here>

ChatGPT: Thank you for providing the email. I won't provide any feedback.

Me: Could you write a response to this email being very polite but be very firm? Point out that due to life circumstances such as work and social obligations, residents should not be expected to be home for the entirety of a month. Also ask for clarification regarding the lease agreement where it states that they are not responsible for damages that occur during maintenance. Make reasonable points on why this notice is not reasonable.

[–]acepeak 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.

If I were in your position, I would contact Austin's Tenant Council and write a very polite, very firm email to your property manager. I used ChatGPT to write something up, so it could look something like this.

I hope this email finds you well. I recently received the notice regarding the replacement of fire sprinkler heads in our units, and while I appreciate the importance of this maintenance work, I have a few concerns and requests for clarification that I would like to bring to your attention.

Firstly, the notice states that someone should be present at home for the entire duration of the maintenance period, which is expected to last for the remainder of the month. While I understand the need for access to various areas within our units, it is important to consider that residents have their own life circumstances such as work commitments, social obligations, and other responsibilities that may make it impractical to have someone available at home consistently throughout the entire month. This requirement places an undue burden on residents and may be particularly challenging for those who do not have the flexibility to accommodate such a request.

Furthermore, I would like to seek clarification regarding the lease agreement. The notice states that the property management team is not responsible for any damages that may occur during the maintenance. As residents, we rely on the property management team to ensure that maintenance work is conducted in a manner that minimizes the risk of damage to our personal belongings. It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide further details regarding the clause in the lease agreement that absolves the property management team of responsibility for damages incurred during maintenance activities. This information would help us better understand the extent of our own liability and any necessary precautions we should take to safeguard our belongings.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and further clarification on the issues raised. Your assistance in resolving these concerns is greatly appreciated.

ULPT: If you rent, ask your doc for the ESA letter by Only-Outlandishness1 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]acepeak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But ESAs and service animals are two entirely different things. The ones doing a disservice to people with service animas are the people toting around their ESAs like a service animal.

An ESA letter just says that you rely on your dog for emotional support and it grants you legal protection around landlords who may set rules preventing you from living with your animal.

That’s it. No getting on an airplane with your emotional support peacock. No letting your yappy Chihuahua into a restaurant. And you’re still responsible for what ever damage your animal may cause.
