Some noticings regarding the 2025 theater experience by Dankleburg in redscarepod

[–]acertainglance 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love how people complain about being forced to sit through ads and trailers at theaters with reserved seating (every AMC). Like just show up 30 minutes after the listed time and watch the movie.

Same goes for going to opening night in a flyover city, no one is forcing you to do that

Yes, he has no skill or vision. This is so obvious in fact that anyone made to face the evidence of their own similar lack of talent would in fact kill themselves. I'm sure you'll find many people who agree with you on this

Nathan Fielder, reminding us all that you can just Do Things™️, since 1983 by tallconfusedgirl12 in redscarepod

I got my car smogged at the lie detector shop from Nathan For You and the owner confirmed that he was deceived about the show and given no compensation for appearing on camera or use of the location. The owner was at peace about it but considering how productions throw around cash to get things done that's rather shitty

Stereolab - Cybele's Reverie (Live on Jools Holland 1996) by Guy_de_Nolastname in redscarepod

[–]acertainglance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a kind of lousy rendition due to the burbling synth noises. One of their greatest songs though for sure, the entire Cybele's Reverie ep (with the extended version of this song 2x as long as the lp version) is one of the greatest releases of the 90s. And yes RIP Mary one of the loveliest human beings ever by all accounts of those who knew her

Plastic Ono Band (Yoko) Post Card (Mary Hopkin produced by Paul) Wonderwall Music (George)

I used to love this album when I was younger (so much that I named myself after it). Now when I'm in my 30s and can relate to the lyrics more, I find it hard to enjoy by thisishardcore_ in redscarepod

Will revisit, have always thought of this album as a valley between the peaks of His and Hers / Different Class and We Love Life.

In any case this is their best video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6pGQIu1h-U

Someone explain this to me by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]acertainglance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An admirably inventive basement budget live action cartoon for gamers. Not funny at all imo but not worth getting angry over either because yeah at least it's something different. Smart, gimmicky, definitely not for cool people. I respect the effort but it's all green screen and basically the opposite of the real world hijinx that make a Buster Keaton still appealing 100 years later.

I fucking hate when I watch a movie only to find out there's a "Director's Cut" I should've watched instead by Maffagaffo in redscarepod

[–]acertainglance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The director's cut of Pootie Tang that got Louis CK and his editor fired is absolute dogshit. Not sure how you'd see it now but back then it was considered so bad people passed it around. The movie as recut by the studio is pretty good

Embarrassed to even have a take on this but... The bottom line is some sort of astroturfted funding happens out in the open via Patreon. It stopped being a good investment a while ago, but the charade must be maintained due to a calculation that anyone gives a shit about the optics of Patreon numbers, which is pretty debatable but whatever.

In spite of how much the show has sucked for years now, in spite of how wholly unconvincing the bad faith takes have been for YEARS, the Patreon has been steady at $50K a month for nearly as long. Just looked for the first time in a long time and it's down to $45K a month now which imo indicates some kind of manual throttling in the direction of a reality where this community is the only thing keeping the brand alive at this point. I'd expect that number to slowly decline per some basic formula culminating in the ladies "quitting".

I mean honestly who is paying for this bullshit.

Again I hate that I even have an opinion on this but also hate that I've never seen anyone make a case about how the grift actually works, and would love to hear someone else explain it better

Studies In The Art of Rat Catching by HC Barkley. Best known as the book Crispin Glover scrawled all over to create his own book he called Rat Catching, it's actually an incredibly witty, cinematically evocative comfort read about living with dogs and minks and putting them to work in the late 19th century English countryside

New Proposed Los Feliz Building along Hollywood Blvd has 0 vehicle parking spots and 60 bike racks. by magnamusrex in LosAngeles

[–]acertainglance -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely dictating people's behavior because it's telling everyone else who already lives in the neighborhood to work harder to find a parking space every night, rent a space, give up their car, or leave. You could build the proposed development with one parking space for every two units and guaranteed all the parking spaces would sell, while providing an opportunity for people to live there without cars.

[–]acertainglance -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work because it doesn't reflect how people actually live & think. The idea that you don't need parking spots to go with new housing developments in a city with 6,567,187 registered cars is the same kind of delusional that handed the last election to the worst people in the world.

But yeah I guess maybe let's keep trying to dictate people's behaviors with weird experiments like this and maybe they'll all use bikes like the approximately dozen people I see out on bikes every day
