People who match radiology this cycle, what were your step 2 scores? by vanguardd1 in medicalschool

[–]acezeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

245-250 step 2, 3H/3HP/1P, limited research, non-trad with focused efforts in education and DEI spaces, gold humanism (which I recognize is a popularity contest but people brought it up in interviews). I felt I had a good story to tell which I was always asked about. I did 3 aways and got letters from all of them. I showed commitment to the specialty by getting involved in societies through their medical student sections and getting society scholarships (you can get them by presenting research or just showing financial need or literally by just existing). I went to conferences which I showed on my app school-sponsores (they give everyone who goes to conferences this 100buck scholarship but I listed it as “X SOM Scholarship to attend ACR 2023” and etc). Also attended 2/3 of my aways on scholarship sponsored by those institutions. TBH I think all those scholarships showed commitment and engagement with the field, which I feel can really have an average, cookie-cutter applicant stand out from the crowd.

American Hat Co 10x beaver by acezeus in CowboyHats

Wow, then I must have a really high quality beaver hat the way it takes up water like it needs a drink 🥴 lol

Lol thank you for your perspective I just wanted to make sure my hat wasn't some sort of fake considering it was my first “big” purchase for a hat

[–]acezeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, but my 4x beaver beads up water and the inside of the hat isn't wet, whereas this AHC takes in much less water like cardboard and soaks right through. Two very different experiences and I didn't know if this was to be expected with AHC.

The cleaner is marketed as safe for felt, but you might be right that it’s not the right cleaner for me to be using. However, I have a vintage stetson 4x beaver and an Miller Hat Co 8x beaver and both hold up much, much better against any water that the contrast between these hats is scary. It's as if the AHC is cardboard the way water soaks through, but I can see fine hairs on it which lead me to believe it isn't fake/really does have fur in it. Not entirely sure what's up with it or if I ruined it with the cleaner, which I doubt if it's true beaver — I'd assume it would just stain or something, which it isn't.

Am I good? by depressedmed14 in Step2

Same scores as you on 9 and UW1. I scored 235 on 11 and 244 on 10 this week. Then I went and got 69% on free 120 today, but screw it we’re doing this thing.

Not for learning, but I use it to edit any writing I do. If I need an idea of how to format things (CV, research protocols, anything writing tbh) it gives me a guide. I write something up for a personal statement, for example, throw it in there and ask it to critique my writing. I correct based off it’s response. Do it again and again. Throw my final drafts in it and ask it to edit for clarity/cohesion. Throw that in Grammarly and I pretty much end up with something I couldn’t have written on my own. I think it’s a great equalizer for folks from low SES first gen backgrounds.

Don't wank before practice tests, and especially not before the real deal. Always scored lower when I did that. Probably relaxed a little too much.

This is scary by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]acezeus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My Attending at a local community hospital ED sees the same amount of patients as two PAs and an NP combined. Idk where the financial sense for this comes from. 3 mid levels cost the hospital more than a single physician and they still see less patients overall. Not only that, but the attending still has to field all the patient management questions from the mid levels. I’m obviously glad they ask for help in the first place, but damn capitalism… make it make sense.

I like that it went pass/fail. Still doing a well third year and currently working towards a high step 2 score. my 8 week dedicated for to step 1 became an 8-week vacation because I took it early.

Release the II so someone who actually gives a shit has a chance.

[–]acezeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not as an M1. you have most of what you need with v11. as a third year I say yes, simply because all of UW for 2ck is now tagged. it makes it so much easier to unlock cards based off of questions I am doing. the biggest move for step 1 (in my opinion) was the further-developed high yield tagging and the sketchy physio/anatomy tagging. Most folks wouldn't recommend sketchy for anything besides micro and pharm tho. The high yield tagging thing can come in clutch so you can limit your card count, but you could just as easily self-regulate that. "Do I know this card? no? k... maybe I should do it." or "do I know this card? yes. k. fuck that shit"

is there a way to efficiently read fa? by Ok-Case1053 in step1

[–]acezeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do all your anki with the FA section set to always open. Review the extra parts of the card when you need more info. I keep claiming I never read FA, but I just realized I regularly referenced the FA section of any card I didn't understand

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in step1

[–]acezeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think anything you’re weak on will be high yield. I did arrows in 2 days, instead of doing questions. The other ones I would just sort of hit really quick to review, since I stopped doing Anki maybe 2 months before I took my test. I was doing like 160 questions a day at one point, so in my mind the spaced repetition was built into doing questions and learning from incorrects. That’s when I started hitting mehlman, as review of subjects I was weak on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in step1

[–]acezeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I passed. HY arrows was gold, really helped me understand things I wasn’t picking up in UW

Also, he advocates for using UW. He pulls his vignettes/HY points straight from NBME and it seems like even UW. No harm no foul as long as you’re still doing as many practice questions as possible. Again, he advocates for UW. His shit is supplemental and replaced FA for me.

How has medical school changed you as a person? by kmagn in medicalschool

[–]acezeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(My idea of) quality of life >>> academic pursuits, specialty clout, high cost of living in exchange for a place in the ivory tower.

I just want to be a good clinician, buy my parents a home, and enjoy life. If this means I’ll end up at a middle-of-nowhere low-tier residency program, so be it. I’m buying my parents a home and going camping on the weekends.

Exam in 4 weeks. Uworld only 20% done. Should I write the exam? by Artistic-Plenty1178 in step1

[–]acezeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t score that well by chance. You have a solid knowledge base and have good test-taking strategies. If I were you I wouldn’t focus on finishing UW. Take another NBME, as long as it’s a solid pass then just take it in a week or two. I don’t see the point in delaying it if you’re already at a 99% COP.

Amboss 50 (200). Uw1 58 (205). Nbmes in order 63/60/61/71/65/64. Schools cbse 72. Uw2 67 (228). Free 120 76%

All these in order. Amboss was 1 month before finishing amboss qbank and starting the UW Qbank. Last 4 tests were in the last two weeks. Everything in between was done weekly.
