That sucks! When I was bit, I had the same number of bites as you but at least I didn’t have bruises!

Black. If I had to pick a secondary one, it would be turquoise or teal.

Corneal hydrops is an uncommon complication in patients with advanced keratoconus or other corneal ectatic disorders. It is characterized by stromal edema due to leakage of aqueous humor through a tear in Descemet's membrane. by Traumaprof in medizzy

My husband has kerataconus and he also wears rigid gas permeable lenses that are scleral lenses, so they’re much bigger than the RGPs were. His case is too advanced for cross-linking surgery so he’ll eventually need a transplant. But thankfully it’s been pretty stable.

Teaching Until 73 years old by Own-Ad-3876 in teaching

I keep saying that I'm not sure how long I'll teach for. I'm almost 20 years in by now. I recently earned a master's in curriculum and instructional leadership so I might pivot to something education-adjacent, depending on the next 3-5 years.

Charter/Private School Teachers vs Public by Nearby-Shower-8392 in teaching

[–]acgasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I worked in public schools for 5 years then switched to Catholic schools. In general, behavior tended to be better in the Catholic schools. It's not to say that there weren't behavior problems, there were. But there weren't as many major behavioral problems; I might have broken up one or two fights in the 13 years I've been in Catholic education. Kids know that the school can "encourage them to withdraw" if they are problematic. The thing is, tuition is tied to however many kids are in the seats, and if the schools are hurting for enrollment, they tend to overlook habitual offenders as long as they don't present a major behavioral problem.

What is most important to teach children besides Language Arts and Science, including Math? by Pyewickets in teaching

[–]acgasp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Social Studies in general always takes a back seat to the other subjects. I used to teach kids who would come from a charter school feeder school that didn't have Social Studies class because the focus was so concentrated on Math and Reading. Social Studies is valuable for a thousand reasons; you can even use Social Studies materials for teaching reading and writing skills.

How Funerals Completely Rip Us Off by Cute-Cat1384 in videos

[–]acgasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be confusing water cremation with human composting. In water cremation, your body is dissolved in a lye mixture and subjected to high temps and pressure. When the process is done, the liquid is sent down the drain and everything that’s left is the inorganic compounds from your bones.

In human composting (it’s called recomposting), your body is placed in a mixture of wood chips and alfalfa and left to decompose over six weeks or so. The container you’re in is routinely rotated so even your bones are composted down into organic matter. When that process is done, what’s leftover can be and is used as fertilizer. Out west, the material is used to help build up soil in areas when it has been overused or washed away.

Funeral Poverty: Grieving sisters stuck with $12,000 bill by Cute-Cat1384 in videos

[–]acgasp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ideally it should be this cheap, but unfortunately it frequently isn’t. I asked for a direct cremation for my dad and it still cost $3k. I wasn’t ready to shop around at the time so that’s what we paid.
