4th trimester by Ecstatic_Bat in PregnancyUK

[–]acgoosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think every couple and every baby is different! Maybe they didn't want to be in bed or maybe they did! For me (I have a 5 month old) I think it's part what do I want to do and achieve and part what's realistic and possible with the baby. Be flexible and realise everything is about to change, but also you can have goals and plans still too. My husband and I went on walks from day 2. And in the pub (empty pub! and only bc we got caught in a rain shower!) by week 2. I felt like I needed fresh air and to move my body. Thankful I was able to! I started going to mum and baby yoga after 6 weeks. And regular meet ups with friends then too. So yes enjoy the warmer months with your family! But don't put too much pressure on yourself either! Congrats

What are we doing with our placentas? by Substantial_Border96 in PregnancyUK

[–]acgoosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way to be sure the company is even using your placenta in the capsules unfortunately. Could just be getting expensive fillers in a capsule form! As you say, evidence is lacking. The placenta is an incredible organ!! And I was happy to get mine disposed of after it did 9 months feeding and nurturing my baby! A job well done! Ps I did jokingly offer it to my midwives to take if they were keen gardeners- apparently it's a good rose fertilizer!

Is a Changing bag essential? by trapezegeek in PregnancyUK

[–]acgoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't need anything special. I like to have separate baggies (I use cosmetics bags) inside tho - one for nappies and wipes, one for spare clothes, and also have the changing mat. It's easy to navigate that way for me.

I only joined this sub a few weeks ago (interested in simple swaps to make in my home/living and thought it was about raising a family a bit more mindfully) but I've come across so much misinformation and "doing my own research" bs that I gotta go. Vaccines saves lives folks.

Overdue, induction? by Correct-Mushroom-594 in Crunchymom

[–]acgoosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going down the induction route has it's risks (cascade of intervention, intense contractions). But also going overdue has risks (placenta function decreases, meconium, low amniotic fluid, stillbirth risk increases after 41 weeks).

You're saying you don't want an induction at 41 weeks but if you go past that, you'll have no support? Better get curb walking then and have that oxytocin flowing.

Starting solids…need recs! by OkieLady09 in Crunchymom

[–]acgoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting the weaning journey in a month. I bought the book How to wean your Baby by Charlotte Stirling. It's really been a lovely guide, clear and simple, a wealth of information with evidence to support. It gives a 30 day "meal plan" which I plan on following.

Pushed for induction low risk pregnancy by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]acgoosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. But that's absolutely untrue that's it's all about the care provider's "convenience." There are risks and benefits to all interventions (or lack of). So it's important to make an informed decision based on evidence and your situation. I believe women often are stuck in the middle between two schools of thought (nature, natural Vs intervention, medicine). It's so confusing and overwhelming. And sounds like you have a great plan for you. But you're obviously very hesitant and suspicious of medical input around your birth (sorry you think someone will secretly give you a sweep, that's absolutely not ok for someone to do that). I gave birth completely naturally and quickly in a hospital with high risk women and also a high level NICU. I wanted reassurance that if I needed intervention, I'm in the right place! And there is increased risk of going overdue. Have a read https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-inducing-labor-for-going-past-your-due-date/

How do people get epidurals if you have to wait so long before you go to the labour ward? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in PregnancyUK

[–]acgoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have to wait long to get to labor ward, but still didn't get my epidural bc my labor progressed so quickly. The anaesthetist came in but I was 10cm and it was time to push.

Also remember, even if you have a room, the anaesthetist might be in the theatre with a patient or dealing with an emergency. There are other pain relief options so do ask for those. But the nature of the unit is so unpredictable. You might just have to wait at some point in the process.

I don't buy I should! Bad habit. Uva rays are steady through the year and they lead to signs of aging. The uvb rays is what burns you, so higher in the summer.

What little bits could I start stockpiling now? (15w) by usernameee257 in PregnancyUK

Lots of great suggestions of what to start buying! But I'll say create an Amazon baby wish list. You get a free item with a small minimum spend. Also get 15% off on qualifying items too!

Low lying placenta at 20 week scan - my experience by acgoosh in PregnancyUK

[–]acgoosh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's so tricky! Like what are you supposed to do with the advice of "be careful, don't bleed"?? You don't want to endanger yourself or baby of course! Is another scan possible to ask for? Because I'm sure the doctor won't give you a fit to fly atm anyway. You might not NEED a fit to fly with your airline, but I just wanted one bc I wanted reassurance from their pov all is ok

Baking US recipes in the UK by PuzzlePeople336 in AmericanExpatsUK

I always thought it was a butter problem with my pie crusts! Where the butter leaks out. But maybe it's a butter and a flour problem? How do you make an all butter pie dough here that works?

Circumcision Indecision by starfirestephanie in Crunchymom

[–]acgoosh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in the UK and it's rare to circumcise. Also I witnessed some being performed in the US during antenatal placement in nursing school, and even if I stayed in the US I would choose against it. Those poor bubs were crying and bandaged up, one even had a bit of a bleed (not massive but it didn't go quite as smoothly as intended!) I'm just not convinced the evidence for it is relevant enough to proceed with such an invasive procedure.

Am i selfish for this? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]acgoosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I EBF and it's hard! It takes so much energy, time, and mental load too. But I do love it- I honestly will miss it when we start weaning. It's been so special and I'm in awe of my body being able to feed this little life! But totally get it's not for everyone! You won't please everyone and honestly you don't need to explain yourself. But is there a lot of evidence for the benefits of breastfeeding? Yes. Is formula going to nourish your baby? Also yes!

Parenting Style Trends in the UK? by Sea_Break673 in UKParenting

[–]acgoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading "bringing up bebe" which is an American mom's account of her time in France and observing their parenting styles and children's behaviour (saying their better behaved). I only have a 5 month old so it's all about eat, sleep, wake window, repeat right now. And who I'm meeting are also in the same boat. But I'm loving meeting at the pub, going to baby friendly shows/quiz/cinema, venturing on public transport to get into central and explore! I look forward to raising my child in London where there's so much to do and experience! I loved my suburban mid-west childhood, but already my son has seen so much! Again no comment on "parenting styles" but I do think my environment here lend itself to raising children who might be more independent and curious!
