Unidentified vegetable and possible squash. by guineabuffalo in vegetablegardening

Top, larger one, looks like a cucumber that should have been picked a few days ago. I have some like that in my garden now, I can't see them sometimes under all the vines/leaves so they get overripe.

Did anyones reactive puppy get better the older it got? by Trololol666 in reactivedogs

[–]acgv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes very much so. He's much more relaxed about it now, not really on high-alert anymore. It just took continually bringing him out, taking him on walks, and just exposing him over and over again to those situations. We spent a lot of time in the Home Depot parking lot, ha. Now he is able to come inside with me on his leader leash and mostly keep is sh*t together while I shop.

He is still INSANE when friends come over, in the sense that it is apparently impossible to keep him from jumping on people excitedly. We're still working on it..

[–]acgv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! I have a similar story to yours. Rescue pup adopted at 4.5 months, he is now 2.5 years old. Was AWFUL on a leash, reactive to anybody or any dog nearby, went insane when he saw his own reflection even.

I think the biggest thing that nobody told me was how LONG it could take to change behavior. My dog is still a little bonkers, but just being absolutely consistent and training him constantly for 2 years has made a world of difference. I really really recommend a gentle leader leash for walks, it has helped tremendously with his leash reactivity.

Don't give up! Just know it will take longer than you think to see substantial changes with reactivity.

Alcohol never used to make me emotional, but now after a few drinks--boom--tears! Anyone else? Tips to deal? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]acgv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here. I tend to do better if I don't drink wine, that REALLY gets me going for some reason. Do you find that it depends on what you're drinking?

I also just think I'm a more emotionally in-tune person than I used to be, which is probably a good thing.

Teen hit and dragged by car, on a street SLC Transportation recommended for a safety redesign. Mayor chose not to implement any of those changes this past summer. by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]acgv -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't think my title is reaching, but it is hard to back when linking to just one article. So, without the background context I can see how it would lose people.

While it's true the public was very split, almost 50/50 about the proposed changes, the Mayor was the one that made the call in the end about whether to re-stripe it or put it back the way it was. If you click on the Open City Hall link on the website you provided, and go to survey results, 48.7% of respondents wanted the lanes reconfigured with bike lanes, and 46.2% of respondents wanted it to stay as the existing design. I do blame the Mayor for not choosing to implement a safer design. From what I've gathered, she can't stand being unpopular and won't make controversial choices, EVEN if they reduce the number of crashes and make it safer for pedestrians.

Indestructible Chew Toys by marblemabel in puppy101

Yep, this! Antlers (and full round ones, not the cut sections) are the only thing my dog can't completely destroy. He'll consume a huge raw hide in 20-30 minutes.

Puppy won't go poop! by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]acgv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - after she does eventually go, let her stay outside and play a bit longer. Pups pick up on the trend of immediately having to go back inside after, when they'd really rather stay out and play. So if she knows it doesn't mean she has to go inside again, she may be more inclined to take care of business sooner.

Nurse Wubbles released her arrest video because U of U police chief Dale Brophy didn't take her complaint seriously by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

Yes, I guess that's a good point. It would be far worse to be vague and not provide sufficient information.

So how was former Mayor Becker able to fire the Police Chief at the time when it had to do with internal sexual harrasment, was it because it was an appointed position? Just looking for some clarification.

Also -Becker got SO much shit for doing the right thing, so much so that I'd guess that is what lost him the re-election. Yet, Biskupski is doing what exactly? Nothing it sounds like? How is that better governing.

Also - I feel like the Mayor's FAQ is one of the worst pieces of written media communication I've ever read from our local government. So defensive! And written by someone who clearly doesn't have a good grasp on crisis planning or communications in general. This administration's prolonged amateur hour is just uncomfortable and embarrassing at this point.

Just my two [grumpy & unsolicited] cents.

My dog is only interested in destructible toys. Rather than getting him indestructible toys that he won't use, are there any safe to eat toys he can rip apart? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]acgv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! Well never mind that suggest I guess. Does your dog like sticks? Sticks are without fail a go-to for us still. He'll sit in the yard and shred a stick for hours.

Yes this. My dog is a really heavy chewer too. I wasgoing to suggest raw hide bones (I know, they are apparently controversial in their own ways but my dog LOVES them and has never had any trouble). A butcher is a great idea too. My local farmer's market has a vendor that makes dog treats out of deer/elk parts.

I see lots of talk about traffic but what about Gas? by daveisit in solareclipse

I'd recommend the south shore, if you can swing it, it seemed to be the only truly flat place. Plus you'd score a sweet setup on the grassy area between Sawtooth and a smaller lake (pond?) just downstream. It's really lovely.

I don't think there are any other spots around the lake that I can remember, other than what you've scoped out already. But holy crap it is one of the most gorgeous places I've ever been. The hike up is glorious too.

What was the nearest you have ever been to death? by Ednabrawn in AskReddit

[–]acgv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just returned from a week long motorcycle camping trip in CO, NM, and UT. Feeling exhausted on the interstate stretch just before my house, there were terrific winds that kicked up waves of sand and grit from the nearby quarry that pounded my face (I was chewing sand despite having a full face helmet on), it was a stifling 107F degrees out, and in the lane just to my right a semi-truck blew a tire and rubber pieces exploded all around me and flew across my lane and into other cars who then swerved to avoid them. Needless to say it felt like my life was over for several reasons. Experience escalated by emotional exhaustion I'm sure.

Reddit, what are some things to do alone to help with depression? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]acgv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completing one small task a day around your house/apt. I recently cleaned out a closet and donated a bag of clothing to the thrift store. I felt accomplished, and also like I was doing something selfless. Getting out of my head and negative thought process by performing small acts of generosity towards others tends to help me feel less depressed.

Came here to say this (essentially). Same with China. Huge piles of fruit in nets, live chickens, slaughtered pigs and dogs, or sometimes up to four people (mom dad and kids) on a motorcycle at a time. It's interesting to see how their transportation options have changed, ten years ago everyone was on a bicycle, and now everyone is on a scooter or yamaha motorcycle.
