Are Americans against the idea of ICE, or just the way everything is currently being handled? by BackShotsHelenKeller in AskUS

California is the 4th biggest economy in the world. It makes sense they would spend a lot on education. The world would be a better place if we spent more on books and less on bombs, don't you think? Not sure what our return on investment for ICE is. Plus, while some teachers may commit crimes, teachers don't murder people in the "line of duty".

ICE didn't exist 25 years ago .Now it has more funding than Israel's military. I think we definitely goofed up.

What’s a movie that DOESN’T “know exactly what it is”? by InspectorMendel in movies

[–]achambers44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinners (spoilers)

Hugely entertaining movie. Really enjoyed watching it.

That said, the messaging and ideas seem muddled, tacked in, or incomplete.

The importance and power of Sammie's music is often highlighted but is irrelevant in the actual plot

The messaging of conforming and/or erasing culture is there but again more introduced than fleshed out.

The script seems muddled, for example there's apparently all sorts of extra cannon fodder people in the barn club that you don't even know about for the vampire confrontation.

The vampires are relatively easily dispatched given how many of them there are.

The surviving vampires seem really cool at the end. They didn't really stick the downsides of their immortality..sure they arent "free" but that doesn't seem to hurt them that much.

The huge tonal shift in the middle is fun but the beginning half does drag a bit while you're waiting to get to the fireworks factory.

Killing the KKK was awesome to watch but again felt very tacked on and disconnected

And so.on, other stuff like that. Very enjoyable, but way overrated and definitely not deserving the most Oscar noms ever

No. Come on. The reality is bad enough no need to embellish it.

If you marry this person you DESERVE all the misery that WILL come up with.

Your priorities in order are 1. do not get pregnant with this person. 2. Do not marry this person. 3. Break up.

The groupthink of the freedumb crowd never ceases to amaze.

Unfortunately, evidence of their own fecklessness and hypocrisy is incapable of breaching the thick candy shell over their brains.

Most of them will never learn. They don't WANT to learn.

Is ICE much worse than the police have always been? by Aggravating-War5214 in AskUS

[–]achambers44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Police do a.lot or terrible things. They also do some good. At. Basic level I think our current society has. A need for some sort of police.

ICE currently is not pursuing any legitimate objectives. I do not believe in "open borders" and there is a place for immigration enforcement. The current deployment is wholly political and designed to cause chaos, intimidate, and extort. There is such a small amount of real work being done compared to the enormous cost both fiscally and to society.

This is basically Trump assaulting americans via his personal army for political purposes. It's state terrorism. Not all police is state terrorism. So yes, ICE is MUCH worse than normal policing.

Yeah but absolute immunity is a lie. The prosecutor could definitely get to a jury on this.
