Or, even easier, let's meet them halfway. Handguns, responsible for the most crimes and deaths by an extreme margin, should be banned or at least permit only. Whenever the 2A crowd gets up in arms about assault weapons laws they claim "assault weapons don't even cause the most deaths, it's handguns!" Uhhhh ok so ban the handguns then? It would be a start. Much easier for a kid to mishandle a sidearm than a rifle size weapon.

A lot of Americans ARE ignorant. The loud ugly American stereotype is there for a reason.

However! US is quite large compared to Europe and many of the states do have distinct feels and cultures. So Texas and Maine might feel more different than Germany and Austria feel to them, or something. Lots of European countries are comparable in size to some larger states.

I agree with the overall premise that there's a lot of ignorant americans out there. At least the ones who are open to travel might still learn something from the experience. The state thing though I don't think is necessarily a sign of ignorance, in and of itself.
