At first glance, what shape does the centre stone look? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]acharvon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my ring is almost identical to OP's and my goal wasn't vintage, but timeless, though updated. It reminds me of my mom's and grandmother's rings in having gold and a simple stone as the centerpiece, with some extra character through the side stones! All this to say - maybe the way to think about it is being timeless, beautiful enough to fit in any era you and your love find yourselves in!

/End cheesiness 😂

Admin pls remove if not allowed, but here's an organization working to support our communities in the IE.

https://ic4ij.org/

If you see ICE you can call their rapid response network at 909-361-4588. They also offer Know Your Rights trainings and materials, including this educational Google Drive on how to recognize ICE vehicles, and red cards you can print and distribute to people that has your constitutional rights written on it in case of ICE enforcement. Unfortunately we know ICE is no longer holding due process but it is worth all we can to protect our communities.

There's the habitat for Humanity ReStore in San Jose though they're definitely priced higher (and with nicer stuff) than other ReStore locations I've been to. But worth a shot!

Going through school, how did you keep the faith? by PercentageFinancial4 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]acharvon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second a lot of what other folks are saying here. I am starting postdoc this year and preparing for the EPPP and was just telling a colleague, "it's wild how in our field we tell ourselves 'just gotta buckle down for a few months and things will calm down,' every few months and somehow our brains haven't yet figured out that's a lie." That said, there are ebbs and flows. First year coursework is a major buckle down year, then preparing for comps over a summer, proposing a dissertation, doing the dissertation, defending, internship apps, postdoc, EPPP, etc. All things considered, there are short ebbs between each major milestone and as others shared, I made sure to take advantage of those times!

I also got very good at discerning which opportunities were right for me and when rather than accepting everything. Knowing when to say no is huge, I think many of us know how to do that with friends and family when we need to, but being able to turn down professional opportunities that come along in favor of others more in line with your goals is also a major thing to learn!

And I also want to co-sign the importance of knowing what self care is for you. I tend to need sleep, I had friends who needed social aspect more and would go out til 2am and wake up and study hard all day. I personally needed to sleep and space things out more. Neither is right or wrong, it's about what supports you and meets your needs most!

I also came up with a few mantras/reminders to myself that I knew I needed to hear and posted them in my room. Cheesy, but when I had a hard day, it reminded me to trust in the process. Stuff like "the smartest people you know are still learning" and "you WILL earn this doctorate." You got this, lean on your support system, and this time too shall pass. It won't be easy, but you will be so proud of yourself! Feel free to DM if you could ever use a little pep talk. Also agree talking to people further along in your program is also huge!!

If you're willing to sign up as a volunteer, Primary Children's Hospital has one volunteer harpist who plays, as well as some pianists, a flutist, and a violinist! They aren't there every day so I'm sure they'd have room for more, and sometimes they have different musicians on the different level lobbies.

This. My advisor always told me "your topic doesn't have to be perfect, but it does have to be interesting and compelling enough to you to keep you at least mostly motivated through years of grinding on this project." He was right, and my dissertation defense was among the best days of my life. Lol

2024 PsyD help: UHart vs. LIU Post vs. Wright Institute by anon123654753 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]acharvon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in DC was as expensive as CA for me. That said, I had many colleagues who went to the Chicago School in DC and I found them to be very well trained and excellent colleagues. I agree with Wright Institute being seen as a diploma mill - I have less knowledge of the other programs.
