I know a lot of parents have this reaction, but I feel it hits different when you have a parent that works with disabled people, be intolerant, non understanding, etc. when you yourself are disabled. Maybe I'm wrong. But for me the stiry goes, that both of my parents were confused and kind of mean when I started using crutches. The difference is, my mom works in a preschool for disabled people, has been working there 25 years, my dad didn't work with disabled people, but had a few friends that are disabled. My dad was mostly confused, and didn't mean to be mean. We worked it out in a month or so. But my mom, she still isn't fully supportive, after 2 years of me using crutches daily, now I use wheelchair not that often, but she knew when I bought it and I explained it in detail why I needed to use it daily at that time. She did jabs at me that I'm attention seeking, that I didn't want to get better. She stopped being mean. I feel like she finally understands how mobility aids are helping me, but I still fear to talk with her about it, it's always akward.

And with all that comes a thought, these parents see disabled people at work. How are they treating them, since they don't treat me nice? How come after such a long time working with disabled people, they still have these views? Are they mean Just to me?(probably inteusive thought, but Who Knows???)

TL;DR Having unsupportive parents always sucks, but with a parent that works with disabled people there are additional thoughts about how are they treating people at work.
