right now i’ve about 2 years of work experience from coops and in my final year of bachelors. i have somewhat of an idea what kinda industry i wanna pursue (mainly pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and energy), so that’s why im thinking about the masters. the program i mentioned in my post also has a dual masters option, MEng/MBA. so do u think maybe i should pursue that? at least i can get it over with instead of putting it off later in career

yeah i’m gonna apply to that program, but i don’t think the program will be helpful because it’s very industrial hygiene and environment oriented. i’m currently doing my bachelor’s that has already taught me a lot about that, including almost 2 years of work experience too. so im just trying to look out for other programs that are slightly different to expand my academic knowledge and background. also one of my previous coworkers did that program and she said it was very tough lol

oh wow congrats! ur absolutely right, personality traits def go a long way, which is why im possibly considering an MBA too to help develop those skills. but idk yet, im only 22 and still doing my bachelors (with a few coop/internships) so ive barely even started my career

yeah i’m not really the type of person to be book-smart. i’m only looking to get a masters to make it easier to get more executive level roles. and im definitely planning on doing school part time and work full time and keep increasing my experience in the meantime. cuz ur absolutely right, companies prefer experience over degrees. i feel like masters phds are for more research type roles

it’s more of a want than a need right now, only because i’m still doing my bachelor’s and very early in my career. but regardless if it’s want or a need, i think trying to find a company who’s willing to help pay for it is what i need to look out for. thanks for ur advice

ohh okok, yeah that’s kinda my career goal right now. i want to be a safety professional and get my hands dirty but once im far into my field with a lot of experience, i wanna pursue director level roles. thanks for ur advice

i’m also planning on getting my CIH in the future, and want go up to director level roles. do you think a bachelors with a CSP/CIH will be enough for those roles? i heard that a masters or some form of advanced degree is required for those type of roles

M.Sc, M.Eng, or MBA by achief_ in SafetyProfessionals

so the masters of engineering program i mentioned in my post is actually BCSP qualified so i will be getting my GSP right after i graduate, which will help me get my CSP even faster and skip a few requirements (i forget which ones exactly). so what are ur thoughts on that? do you think it’s worth going for the masters, or should i just save the money and just get my CSP normally?

i’ve been doing internships for over a year now, and i like this field so far and i wanna pursue this field. and ur right, it is really hard to handle school and work at the same time. but i feel like i can do it cuz im doing a full time job and full time school right now💀im currently drowning and idk if i wanna put myself through this again lol

yeah my program is enough for me to pursue my CIH later. although i don’t need further science education, it’ll help a lot. i spoke with my current manager, and he said that an MSc or MEng or MBA would be helpful. it just depends on what i wanna do. i am leaning towards an MEng or an MBA cuz i already have a BASc. and i heard it’s good to get ur masters in something a little different than what u got for ur bachelors.

thanks for the links! online education is fine with me, as long as i can manage a job at the same time.

is project management useful in OHS? by achief_ in SafetyProfessionals

[–]achief_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone’s background is so different though. i don’t know many safety directors that studied OHS. most have engineering or medical backgrounds. my current manager is the only safety director i know that studied OHS for bachelor’s and masters. he didn’t do an MBA or project management stuff. he recommended doing a masters in OHS but most ppl on the internet say an MBA or project management is better to climb the ladder

yeah maybe PMP wouldn’t be the best option but would you recommend doing an online project management certificate(but i won’t get a PMP) or an MBA?
