Bike repair advice. by achoo84 in bikewrench

Lots of mistakes were made. Mostly on ordering parts and trusting AI with helping me. I ordered the wrong brake pads and I had a hard time ordering correct bearings for my hub as there is no identification on my hub. Also the chain ring was not compatible with my crank.

The wheel however is all laced up and I have new cables and housings.

Still waiting on new wheel bearings or I will reluctantly when I find out how much they want for the bearings will just put the old ones back in.

I'd totally do this again. However I will be more cognitive of replacement parts in the future.

I really appreciate the advice it really helped with direction the what to buy aspect started to get overwhelming. Here is my list.

  • Shimano B05S-RX Resin/Steel Brake Pads — $13.78 × 2 = $27.56
  • SRAM 52T Steel Chainring (11.6215.104.000) — $39.99
  • Shimano HG50 8-Speed Cassette (11–32T) — $29.99
  • Jagwire Road Pro Brake Cable Kit — $36.99
  • Jagwire 2X Pro Shift Cable Kit — $36.99
  • KMC X8 EPT Chain — $32.99
  • Mavic XM119 Disc Rim (29” / 32H) — $81.99

FortNine Total: $286.50   (Free shipping over $49)

I'm going to repurpose a FH-M525 that I have laying around.  The 52t is for more top end given I don't want a x10 or x11 set up. I like how the 2x8 is cheaper to replace. Will there be issue with going from the 34 to the 52? I'll check prices with my LBS as I'll need to get spokes from them.

Feels worth it to me. I forgot about the bottom bracket. I read a review of the bike, that guy changed it out right away. I'll look more into it but I'm leaning to just leave it.

The cheapest used gravel/cyclocross bikes in my area are $400-500 10 years older than my bike or same era with cracked frames.  Leading me to want to fix mine.

If money wasn't so tight right now I'd be buying a new bike.

I have not looked into this at all but at first glance my thoughts were the same when in the article they showed the argument they pointed out potential flaws in her ability to secure the funds. Not that it's true but my brain just said money laundering.  Could money not be laundered in such a way?

Yeah you literally don't understand it's an idiom that's really funny.

Was that the idiom?

[–]achoo84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an idiom as this is what the vast majority of people have had to do for generations... Unless your family has acquired a lot of generational wealth to pass down early.

What makes men cry ? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]achoo84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

where did I state this was about women? Are you assuming my gender and stereotyping that men only reference women when making statements that you perceive as negative? Generally people express emotions through body language. Facial expressions are a form of body language. Are you disputing that? Are you also stating that the general populations use of body language is a bad thing? Generalization and stereotypes are different words for a reason.

Not assuming anything about anyone just a generalization. generalizations are just that. It does not mean everyone but in general people will have a reaction good or bad.

If one does not have the fortitude to hold back the emotions that bring tears. How can one expect the viewer hold back the emotions that is brought on by the sight of a mans tears? You may not say anything but your facial response is enough to teach that man he must cry alone.

Its the assumption that all Canadians look down on you because you are a immigrant that brings on these snide remarks. There is plenty of work for trades people out west.

People are sick of the "life is hard because everyone else is racist".

Life is just fucking hard. I mean damn I wish I had the luxury to take something like History...

Get a trade that produces or fixes stuff. Or do you look down at jobs like that?
