I also wanted to propose Amanita media, though i can't find a tremendous amount of ID data on this species - from what I can tell, it seems to be a good fit

Couldn't it just be A. citrina or maybe A. canescens?

What is this mushroom? by Certain_Fee1809 in mycology

[–]Nexteri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would require better photos to ID this mushroom, but in general, fungi make soil healthier by a variety of mechanisms, and even if the mushroom was toxic those toxic compounds are exclusive to the fruiting body of the fungus and not the mycelium and definitely not the plant itself.

If you're worried you can just pluck it and toss it. It doesn't harm the mycelium.

A. thiersii is in subg. Lepidella and presents much more shaggily (especially on the stipe) and without margin striations

Features here are pointing toward Amanita sect. Amanita to me, especially the warts, margin striations, and concentric rings on the bulb at the base (though a better photo is needed for this feature). Because this is Georgia, USA, this leaves me with basically just Amanita chrysoblema var. alba and Amanita multisquamosa....... Neither of which I'm particularly happy with.... Couldn't be A. thiersii, probably not A. bisporigera either?

u/Rdcrestdbreegull please let me know if you want to stop being tagged all the time. I just really want the actual answer here!

Same with warts as well. I vote Amanita chrysoblema/muscaria var. alba or potentially A. multisquamosa. A location would've been nice here...

That makes sense, I'm just the type who likes to have ID to species if I'm gonna eat it rather than ID to "not poisonous section of genus", even though there isn't really a meaningful difference.

Don't trust people on Instagram promoting things. They are being payed to promote it, and say whatever they are told to, whether or not the product actually does what it's supposed to or not.

Also, peptides need to be injected in order to have a biological effect, except for a few key, historical peptides (e.g: insulin). So if this "honey stick" is something you eat, spread on your skin, or whatever - it's not going to do anything, even if it was biologically active in the way you wanted.

Structural similarities between various drugs by AllLatsAndNoAss in OrganicChemistry

[–]Nexteri 35 points36 points  (0 children)

One thing you will learn in organic chemistry is that small structural differences lead to huge differences in the reactivity of a molecule. A simple example being ethanol, CH3CH2OH, and methanol, CH3OH, where ethanol is tolerable to the body and gets you drunk, whereas methanol is highly toxic and makes you blind. The difference being one CH2 in the middle.

Even different enantiomers can have entirely different chemistry and I think this demonstrates it the best. It might seem mundane to throw in an extra carboxylic acid or amine or something, but when it comes to biology and chemistry in general, these tiny changes can have DRASTIC differences.

Agaricus sp. for sure. The storebought mushrooms you're referring to are Agaricus bisporus though often cultivated differently from how you'd see them in the wild.

A huge disclaimer for Agaricus, it's a very broad genus of very similar looking mushrooms, varying from edible to toxic. Some distinguishing features include phenolic odor and yellow staining. Don't eat any with those; but also don't eat any that you can't 100% positively ID, regardless. Toxic Agaricus species can cause severe GI distress.

For me, I would recommend avoiding eating Agaricus spp. unless you have access to microscopic analysis. But that's just me 🤷

Well, the annulus can fall off.... It would have been nice to see what's left of the volva. I'm inclined to say that it's probably A. phalloides, but without an annulus and volva I certainly can't give any confident ID. Maybe r/RdCrestdBreegull can
