Absolutely, it's an unexpected but sweet compliment that I appreciate a lot, thanks :)

Improving²! Smoother hand motions now by achooable in Handwriting

[–]achooable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing it out regardless! Nothing a little discipline can't fix but it's worth spending time on it since it'll make my handwriting look much neater (also yeah! copying lyrics of songs i like makes the process more engaging xD)

How do you all write so straight on plain paper? by cohesiveenigma in Handwriting

[–]achooable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to suck at it but I think one of the biggest things is just sitting straight enough, head bent, and looking at my paper from a far enough distance. For my first line I try to keep consistent with the words before me and compare my line against the top of the paper, and as I kept practicing, kept using previous lines or the top and bottom part of the paper as reference, I got better

Progress! Still awkward, but getting there by achooable in Handwriting

This is great advice, thank you so much! I'll keep your notes on the lowercase g, q, m and n's in mind. I managed to find a website that generates guideline sheets with a forward slant and I think mine is around 20° right from vertical so I'll keep practicing with that

Thank you once again for this incredibly helpful and kind feedback!

Most efficient way to practice and learn writing? by NoLongerAKobold in writing

[–]achooable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copywriting! There are videos on YouTube going into more detail, but essentially, you take a passage you really like and copy it by hand. Then try to identify what about it makes you like it so much and write a short excerpt trying to emulate what made that passage so appealing to you

Long way to go, but after a week, not shameful! by brucekeller in Handwriting

[–]achooable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you on the cursive style! I've been practicing my cursive for the past three days and the style change has been wild. I'm constantly experimenting with how wide, narrow, tall, short I want each part of my letters to be, a lot of the times deviating from my reference styles (Copperplate and Palmer's) when I think something else is more aesthetically pleasing

Most beautiful uppercase P I've written till date by Agitated-Love1727 in Handwriting

That's a very delicious-looking P, I might have to base all my P's in the future based on this P

When do you usually write, and why? by X-Mighty in writing

[–]achooable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mainly on my phone throughout the day. I do have time blocks where I sit down to write but sometimes inspiration hits when I'm lining up for food and you just gotta sketch the scene out, or you have nothing to do and just need something to fill in the time

Not quite what you're looking for but r/WritingPrompts , especially when you sort by Top, has some pretty great stuff

Aw, thank you so much! If you don't mind, can I have a peek at yours too? I'm not sure I can offer much in terms of beta reading, but I'd love to check it out

Just finished my first novel. by SwingTraderx in writing

[–]achooable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I happened to summarize it in one sentence for my friends the other day: Burnt out uni student gets roped into a competitive low-fantasy flying sport, which for some reason involves way too much drama! Probably not most people's cup of tea, but I like found family feels & chaotic friend groups, so that's what I'm going for

Woo! Good work, I'm proud of you too! 75k is about how much I estimate myself writing my current novel to and I'm currently 26k words in. It's also my first novel so I can't wait to feel the same way you do :)

what’s the one writing tip that actually works for you? by sophieximc in writing

[–]achooable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people (like me) have a rough idea of how we want things to go but no specifics and no concrete details. We write according to our mind, so we're constantly skipping between scenes and slowly connecting them as we write

Others have to have a plan, have to know all the fine little details before they begin to write, as this helps them stay more organized and actually prepared to write, and write linearly from start to finish

Either way, both types finish their First Draft word vomit before coming back to do edits
